Love that you dedicate a slot for sustainability. Just as an upgrade, the programmed obsolescence has way more impact than the packaging. 2 years of software upgrades and 5 of security upgrades makes a more sustainable device than a few grams of recycled materials!
I just want to point out what a fresh breath of air your presentation and editing are. The need to content creates to have puzzled or expressive faces and a misleading thumbnail make KZread reviews frustrating before they even start. i appreciate the clean straight forward deliver you choose and I search out your views for all things tech specifically for this reason. Pro tip for college students: what discovered this semester is Google Docs also has a built-in voice-text feature, and it works fairly good if your professor speaks loud and clear! You will have to make corrections but it might do a good enough job for you to focus on the lecture and not note taking! Wish I found this sooner on in my time of college haha

As always Marques- a fantastic review. I had the Pixel 6 pro right when it came out, and I returned it within a week due to all of the issues. I was impressed with the phone and really wanted to keep it, but it was plagued with issues- especially the fingerprint scanner almost never worked even after registering the same finger multiple times. I think the optical fingerprint scanner is an issue especially during colder weather. I received my Pixel 6 pro in December. I believe the colder weather, lower humidity, lower skin hydration makes the optical sensor struggle. I find that the ultrasonic on the S21 worked better than the Pixel optical scanner in all scenarios, but also noticed that when my skin was more hydrated (warmer weather) it worked better. I also tested my theory this past winter by applying lotion at times and noticed the scanner would work better. This may explain why some people had less issues with the Pixel 6 fingerprint scanner based on time of year and location (weather). I think adding the facial recognition helps the Pixel 7, but really the Samsung ultrasonic sensor is better and also include facial recognition. Personally I feel if they brought back the capacitive sensors and placed it on the back of the phone- I would prefer those- they worked perfectly all the time. The Pixel is the more innovative, but the Samsung more practical and dependable. Also for me the 10X optical lens in the S21 is preferred since I do a lot of video and photography of my daughter performances at a distance. Thanks again for a great review!
"But for patient Pixel people who prefer pristine programming and pretty pictures, the Pixel Pro is pretty perfect." Really liked this alliteration at the end!

The recorder app would be incredible for university students, to transcribe lectures. When I was in college I remember frantically trying to write down everything the professor said (so I could just rely on notes later and not do the reading). With this app, you don't even have to take notes anymore, and if a student asks a question, the app will even label the different speakers, so you can transcribe an entire Q&A. And transcribing is not the same as recording, so you won't be breaking any rules.

I've always been partial towards the Galaxy S and Note lineup. Previously had the S4, Note 4, Note 7 (had to change it out to the LG V20), S8+, and the Note 10+. My Note 10+ lost video output and touch, so I had to get a new phone quickly, and went with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, to which I didn't really prefer UI-wise. so I ultimately paid the restocking fee and traded it in for the Pixel 7 Pro. I love this phone. It's simple, has no extra apps I never used from Samsung, easy to setup and personalize, and I'm excited to check out a lot of these cool features. The camera is awesome, too!

"Photo unblurring" was literally my final project in "image processing" course (Electrical Engineering). You basically need to find two parameters: Power - How strong is the blur, meaning - how far was the pixel moved from its original place. Angle - The angle of the pixels movement in a coordinate system There is some math going to achieve that, you have to make a Fourier transform to the image to change it into the "frequency domain", then find the angle and the length of the "strips" that you are getting from the image, and viola! you just calculated the two parameters that you need. Now you have to make another Fourier transform to return to the "time domain". With the 2 parameters you have just calculated, you can reverse the process of the blurring effect. TBH, I'm not working as a signal processing engineer, but as a DevOps Engineer :)

About 3 months in and my Pixel 7 is going great. My major frustration and disappointment, the fingerprint recognition has resolved itself (magic or software upgrade?). The battery is excellent, no problem going a whole day. I changed over from an iPhone (something I thought would be daunting but it was so simple) and can't imagine ever wanting to go back. Thanks for this excellent video about the Pixel 7 Pro, it has been instrumental in me buying one - especially for the 50mp camera - the photos are good but none of them come out at 50mp - usually 12.5mp with very small file sizes - I contacted the help link in the camera settings, and wonderfully they rang me straight away - an amazing service - the lady explained that the 50mp photos are automatically compressed to 12.5mp when you look at them. They look good on my screen but for printing I think the small file sizes are a real contraint. Does anyone know of a workaround ?

Hey MKHD, thanks for doing a sustainability section in the reviews. I really appreciate it, there's not a lot the average consumer can do but it is nice to try what we can!
Great review! Thank you for this good honest review with pros and cons including new features of the Google Pixel 7 series. I just got a Google Pixel 7 Pro after turning in my Google Pixel 3LX. I'm really enjoying my Google Pixel 7 Pro atm. Looking forward to seeing more content from the KZread channel.

Hi there, thinking to do the same as you.. I own a pixel 4 xl and want to trade in for a pixel 7... How much was the value of your trade pixel 3 xl? I'll make the plunge if they give me a good value for it. I'll appreciate if you reply to my message. Greetings!

Wow, that Intro was excellent! Keep it up
Users would really appreciate if you could compare a hardware heavy phone like vivo x90 pro plus with software centric android phone like the pixel 7 pro to let know what the user should be going with given their requirements so that they make a clear decision on what they should be getting as their daily driver.
Love your reviews, MKBHD! It's been a long time since that laptop/ad for Intel and Lenovo or whatever it was. I may be getting my first smartphone soon, and it will probably be a Pixel Pro, just because it's the best at some things and I know I'd use a high-performance, extra-smart smartphone 🙂
Great quality review as always - having gotten the phone I noticed that the screen has really washed out colours when compared to other phones or a colour calibrated monitor. There's a big thread on Reddit and on the Google Pixel forums but Google has not confirmed it yet. Would have been great for us users if you guys (YT reviewers) would have mentioned it as this is the only way Google would have acted - e.g. how they responded to the Pixel 2 display fiasco.

I've been watching your videos since you convince me to buy a Nexus 5X when I joined Google Fi. As a huge fan of not just Android, but Google in general, and a former studio photography major in college, I've really loved seeing their phones evolve over the years, and it's been incredibly fascinating hearing your take on it as I've watched along. I just wanted to say thank you for everything you do. I really respect you, not just for the incredible content you create, but for the person you are. You're an inspiration for a lot of your viewers, myself included, and I hope you truly know that.

I currently have the Google pixel 4a. But recently I have had so many issues, that I'm unsure if I'll bother with another Google phone right now. I mean overheating, freezing, restarting, and issues with my camera. This phone looks promising but I think I'll shop around a bit first.
The fingerprint reader is *definitely* much improved this year. Way more reliable, speed is good. It doesn't "instantly" capture your fingerprint like a supersonic reader, but it's almost as fast overall if you keep your finger there for a couple more milliseconds. Much improved over the pixel 6.

You are the best at explaining things and very detailed, even though I couldn't follow you, I was very impressed by your analysis. I just got one of these phones and it's 100x more than I need. The google phtos are beyond anything I have ever seen. My Apple friends always want to see them.
Hey Marques, I'm still using my 3Xl, and am happy with it's, pretty much everything. And though I'm stuck at android 12, the phone works perfectly. But am thinking about the 7pro. And I do like the improvements, but I still cannot overlook having no front facing stereo speakers. 😢. I realize most people use ear buds or Bluetooth speakers, but I don't like carrying extra stuff. I like hearing things out of the box. I will NEVER, spend a weeks pay, for a phone. So I will look for deals. But I do like the pixels and have used Google phones since the Nexus. All with front facing stereo speakers. And I so miss um now since the 3Xl. Good review, 👍👍
It's always a gamble with the way that Google tempts buyers with early deals before reviews like your excellent one can post. I'm glad to hear your experience has been positive, since I did preorder and receive my Pro tomorrow!

Thanks for the review 👍🏻
The biggest problems for the Pixel 7 for me is the brightness slider being slightly off axis (you have to move the slider at the bottom half of it to actually get it to work 80% of the time...) and the performance of the Tensor 2 chip on some games is not great, it spits our frame rate errors on games like Dokkan, hardly the most intensive game in the Store. But the photo unblurring, the live text translations and the stellar cameras - I'm loving the Pixel 7 so far and hope it lasts a good few years for me.
i just love this one. Everything is very simple and yet very effective. And i didnt feel like im going to die when watching the official reveal. Hope we get it in serbia.
