Hey Brett, great video, picked up my Max a few days ago and it works great even if some features are limited here in Poland. The best feature is the camera, set it up in the Nest app so the Max records what happens it my flat while I’m away and the app alerts me. Plus it’s cool that it recognizes me and displays my little avatar. Keep up the good work, you are my Google guru :).

Hey Brett, i have my hub max already set up but am having trouble getting around in it. some things it wants me to use/setup my phone and some things from the hub

What lighting system did you pair this with, that you were able to control the color and brightness?

With one of these in several rooms, could they also be used as a video intercom to communicate with individual rooms?

I got a nest hub max and I'm trying to cast KZread videos.... from the nest hub max to my LG OLED TV....! But it would only cast to my Vizio TV upstairs, and it doesn't seem to even recognize or list my LG TV as a choice to cast to. How do I set up the Homr app or my nest hub max to cast to the LG TV? Thanks very much, as a result I bought one. One question (so far) I did the face recognition twice but the little face icon in the upper right corner unlike yours showing your face mine just shows a "face" icon, not my mug. Where did I get off course? Thanks again for the great video.

Brett, We bought this and have two other hubs. Do you know if there is a workaround for KZread Music personal playlists not working with the hubs? I have confirmed with google its broken but wanted to know if you knew a workaround.

can it hear better than previous models? I am wanting to use it as a safety backup ie, if I fall and break a bone and call out call mum, will it likely hear me in a LARGE room or from the next room?

Nice! Have u reviewed Lenovo Smart Tab M10 or P10? If not would be interesting to see your honest review of those? Tablet that double as smart display! Would also be interested to know if it can work as a photo frame to display photo from Google Photos App?

Absolutely great review. I just got mine and I am loving it. There is one issue I found, when moving around the screen it follows you but mine sometimes focus's on inanimate objects

Can I use any features on any Google smart speaker or smart display without an internet connection or does it become completely useless? I can use some features and apps on a tablet without an internet connection so I was wondering if the smart speakers and displays act the same way.

if I've got my phone right next to the hub and say "hey google" to set an alarm, I'm guessing both devices will do it. Is there a way to change that command on google home hub?

I would really like to find a way to reposition the PIP window during a Duo video call. This is the window that shows me as seen by the person I am in the call with. Right now it is positioned in the upper right corner of the screen. I have seen videos on KZread showing this window positioned in other corners so I know it must be possible, but a recent chat with Google support told me it cannot be moved. That just does not sound right.

Hey Britt. My Google Nest Hub MaxEC1B was working fine until approx. 1 week ago. I had a message it wasn't connected so after trouble shooting everything I knew including restarting the Hub to factory set-up. When I try to connect the Hub to my Smart Phone the error reads "something went wrong on our end please try again" I have no success. Any suggestions? Thanks!

how do you get your picture to show in the camera "eye"/

I need to view and talk from Australia with my mother in the Netherlands. This is important to monitor movement and falls etc. The setup will be done when my sister in the USA will visit. Will I be able to join the Dutch Home without needing to be present to take an image on my phone? My mother will not be able to operate the device, so whose account should the Home be in?

It's good that it can connect to the 5 Ghz network for video calls... but aren't you suppose to be connected to the same network the smart devices you want to control is on. I.E.: TP Link smart plugs that only use the 2.4 network, can you still control them through the Google Home if the Hub Max is on the 5G network and the smart plugs are on the 2.4 network??

I recently added door contacts to my Smartthings . These contacts display of my Google Home but I can't figure out how to use them. How do I program a contact to activate something else on Google Home?

Hi Scott, at this point the sensors don’t show up in Google routines, even if they are linked through SmartThings. I use Alexa to handle this stuff but saw your question and linked my SmartThings through the Google Home app too. All my devices show up fine but I can’t include the sensors in routines. I’d say get an Echo Dot 3 or the little Echo Show, Alexa is way better when it comes to smart home options.

When I try to make calls using the duo calling, it says they are not connected to duo, but they are? Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Excellent video, that will help me to set it up, I am also looking for a video on how to setup my motorized blinds with broadlink and google.

Hey Brett, I was curious as to what your thoughts would be on replacing a $20 digital clock with a google smart display. I don't want the camera, or need it, so was thinking the smaller one. However, I decided get a home mini speaker instead for the nightstand. Now I can access both google, and Alexa respectively from each room I'm in without having to yell. Google is in the bedroom, and living room, while Alexa, is in the Bedroom and Kitchen. Since I mainly wanted the smart display for a clock replacement, would it have been overkill compared to just putting the mini in here? Thanks, love your videos, find them very helpful. Get a Mini. Mount it and the Echo on the wall. You don't need to see either one.

@@pssst3 Thanks for the feedback. Since I live in an apartment, mounting stuff isn't ideal. I already have an Echo plus 2nd in the bedroom for the built in hub . and temperature sensor. A echo dot 3rd in the kitchen in one of those holders that allow it to plug into an outlet and hang on the wall. If I decide to exchange the home mini I got, and go with the home hub, i'll probably get the small one as the other person suggested. My main focus on smart devices has been to have some fun, but also see how they can benefit people with various disabilities for easier mobility around the home.

Thanks for the detailed question. One of the biggest reasons I like the Nest Hub is to quickly adjust my smart devices without Using a voice command. A mini would work but again I like having a touch screen option. To save a bit of money you should also check out the Lenovo Smart Clock. @@TechWithBrett Thanks Brett, I'll check out the Lenovo smart clock, i've looked at a few things regarding it already. Just to let you know, I thought it would have been a good idea to combine the assistant into a clock, However, I'm mainly just locking for a replacement clock that can change daylight savings time automatically, and keep itself set. Just something smart enough to have to manually reset the clock if power is lost. Even though it has a 9v backup batter, those aren't the best solutions. Thanks again i'll do some checking around, and let you know what I decide to go with.

Yes you can call anyone that has Google Duo on their phone, tablet, smart display or computer. The camera also zooms in to give you the best positioning.

how do you change the name?like on my google home it says den display, how do I change that?

Pretty good display I say. One very fine day I will buy for my kitchen.

Does the camera pan up and down as well as side to side? I'm wondering if positioning it at around chest height will result in video calls of mostly the roof and the tops of kids heads?

Testing this today I does up and down and side to side. The up and down seemed to work better but three of use were in the room and it had a hard time moving to each side. We were in a big room so I will do some more testing on that. It did keep the kids fully in frame even with me being much higher. As I crouched down it lined up beautifully.

After buying one of these and positioning on a bench at adult chest height (while standing) I can report it will find and zoom in on kids if they are standing maybe 2 metres or more away from it. Any closer and they're below it's field of vision. The zoom at that range not great but acceptable. If you have very young kids who would keep wanting to get close you'll have a problem, but if your kids are a bit older you should be fine.

I wish they would fix the Nest Hub to be able to control basic on/off switches like the actual app. From my app I can turn on and off each individual switch in a room grouping. However on my nest hub I can only adjust brightness of bulbs and turn off or on the entire room. They should make the best hub work just like the app on controls like that.

Does it have a web browser? This would be good in the kitchen, but I often want to look for recipes online, so I'd want access to Food Network and other recipe sites.

Just buy a full functioning tablet. Everything that is available on a phone and nest is also available on a tablet except landline service calling normally unless you call through an app that's supported for the tablet.

Brett I read an article on CNET yesterday that some people are having problems setting up the Nest Protect AFTER they’ve already set up the Nest Hub Max via iOS, by chance is this a problem you or anyone you know has encountered?

You need to be the owner of the home and remove everyone from the home. Not ideal but that is how you do it.

Hey! It sounds like the device might either have an issue or some accessibility color feature was enabled. Since this video the location to find the settings has changed a but you should find it by tapping on your Nest Hub Max, then the ⚙️ icon, and accessibility and see if any of those are turned on and turn them off.

Can we get a power consumption report when using different features and a for a week. Google says the Max has a 30 Watt adaptor, the Hub a 15 Watt adaptor, but the Google Home Mini has 5V, 1.8A. Why wouldn’t they state the wattage as well?

Hi, good video. I've set mine up and it realky feels that this is an unfinished product. The lack of abity to tweak a search manually by text in KZread is so painful as the results are so inconsistent. The lack of Netflix blows. Other than that it's OK. The duo calling is pretty good. Gestures are basic but good. Sound is good. In hindsight a docked tab with Bluetooth speaker is better but doesn't look as good

The ambient EQ setting will pretty much turn it off when the room goes pitch dark.

Can you set up this, or a Google Home Hub without using the Google Home app? I'm in college and my school's wifi doesn't allow devices to communicate with each other, so this is nearly impossible.

There is not on the Hub. Best way to do it is landscape mode on your phone.

I just bought a hub max. For some reason after connecting to the WiFi network the app can't find the hub max. :(

Great sound - its best feature is playing music but it’s quite limited in what it can do. We wanted to stream Freeview or Netflix on it but you can’t - also why can’t it have a browsers - it’s just a gloried clock and music speaker

@@rodpie2 I do think its extra troubling to not just be able to dial a number and have to look in contacts that may or may not be showing up on a users phone. Who has time to sort out why contacts don't show up.
