This car with it's straight-8 sounds amazing! The purity of the exhaust note without any of this new fangled stuff like catalytic converters or mufflers is great.

I can imagine Gable, top of his mark, blasting in this, smoking a Chesterfield King.

This video brought a warm smile and plenty of ooo's and ahhhs to my face. I can easily imagine Clark driving the same Southern California roads.Such a nice tribute to a grand automobile and its famous first owner.

I found a genuine 'Hollywood Hideaway ' from the 30's-40's ...... was where Clark hid out and got smashed ..... sat in his chair ...... [ realistic ] ...We found the ONLY 1927 Duesie Phaeton Royale in our Canadian prairies....... wow .... truly priceless, more than any R-R ........ incredible .... -and I build custum 9 litre Cadillac engines ...... [ and have been to Wiltshire ]

The scene when the car is on the hilltop over looking the ocean is why I love California so much, the scenery is breath taking! of coarse driving a car like that would be over the top but that's a fat chance in hell.

I thought all Duesenbergs were 1929s. Guess they dated them when they were bodied and/or sold rather than when the engines, chassis, etc. were made.

1:30 These are the disadvantages of a rigid axle. Look at 0.25 speed.

Legend is Gable, drunk, struck and killed a man with this Duesie or another one he had and MGM paid off his family to hush it up. I think these cars are stunning but I cannot imagine at the worst of the Depression driving such an extravagant car around.

This is why almost all of the US luxury car brands went bust in the mid '30s. It's not that the rich could not buy the cars, but that they didn't dare drive them - and as a result, many got scrapped.

That is the most stupid thing I have read all week--rich people scrapped cars because they were afraid to drive them. Jeez man....

I Googled this story about Gable killing someone while in a drunken stupor, ain't true about Gable BUT a fellow actor named John Huston was in an accident in which a young woman was killed but he was not drunk. He was cleared by a grand jury of all wrongdoing.

I won't speak for the accident and supposed hush money, but as for driving it around during the depression, I get it and why. A different mentality than today's. All of those Hollywood movies with wealthy and glamorous stars during that time period supposedly took people's minds off of their plights long enough to enjoy a dream on the screen, whether in movies or newsreels or in the movie magazines of the day. It was seen less as arrogant flaunting and more as giving people hopes and dreams. Hollywood knew how to play it.
