I used to work at Duesenberg Motors in Elroy, Wi. long ago, before Dave Hartje weaseled his way into ownership of the company. Richard Braund Sr. is the man who made his dream of producing a second generation Duesenberg come true. He's dead now and what a character he was. I liked him alot. Before he died, he was writing a detailed history of the origional Duesenberg and the second generation Duesenberg. Sadly, I doubt the book will ever get printed. Back when I was on the company payroll, I was employed as the Brass Man, making all kinds of automotive jewelry such as the door handles, hinges, windshield frames, window frames, hood ornament, hood side screens, headlights, cowl lamps, taillights, fender trim, and the list goes on. It was an unusual time in my life, but one that I will always cherish. It was like high school shop class, only I got paid to make the coolest stuff, including specialty tools and made my own production jigs. At 1:08 in the video, you will see Randy Evans. He was with the company the longest and he could tell you just about all you could ever ask about the construction of the various Duesenberg models. He is also one of the best friends you could ever ask for. You can see him working on the frame of one of the cars which he used to build from scratch. Man, it was a special time. We also built a limited edition Duesenberg golf cart. I was given the task of making the first prototype chassis, cutting a Columbia Park Car golf cart and stretching it out, modifying the front crossmember and dialing in the steering section.

Sid, Is anything happening with Duesenberg? I saw that Hartje hooked up with Eddie Paul a while back, to start building replicas again, but apparently Paul died a couple of years ago. If I could put together the money, would you be interested in getting things going again -- maybe even with the original Lycoming engine, but with a more modern compression ration (rather than the original 5.7:1)?

Nathan: the yellow car in the Great Gatsby -- at least, the one with Robert Redford -- was a Rolls-Royce, not a Duesenberg. Sorry.

since they have gone to such lengths to try to duplicate the look of original dueseys , why have the exhausts coming out of both sides of the hood . no original duesey EVER had that.
