Goodbye Mr. Chips read by Christopher Plummer
Ойын-сауық
Author - James Hilton. Published in 1934, this book tells the story of an English boarding school teacher named Mr. Chipping from when he first arrived until his final moments. This out of circulation recording features a fantastic performance by Christopher Plummer who is best know as the Captain and father in the movie The Sound of Music.
There is a message of not only the importance of good teachers who connect with their students, but also of how, over the years, a person who will be forgotten by history can make a profound impact. The accumulation of a lifetime of good work is of great value. Here's to all the Mr. Chips, we've encountered. Rating 4 out of 4 stars. It's one of my all time favorites.

Oh how wonderful. First time I've read this. So sad, the waterworks are coming. A wonderful way to while away a couple of hours of a slow-moving holiday Monday.
Excellent narration. l read a PDF version along with his reading.... very little skipped over.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've never read the book so it's good to know that most of it is covered. I'll be putting more of my favorites books on tape on my site which you may want to give a listen.

@@greatbooksontape782 I haven’t finished it yet, but a majority of chapters 10 and 15 are skipped over.
Very good reading of a great story.

Agreed. Even though I've seen the excellent 1939 film starring Richard Donat, who's performance as Mr. Chips won him a Oscar for Best Actor, the excellent film takes nothing away from this touching performance and vis versa.
There’s a wonderful film version of this book with Christopher Plummer and Petula Clark I think…
