During the 1970s and 80s, books on tape (cassette) were in their heyday. This channel contains digitalized books on tape which are rare and no longer published or streaming on subscription sites. However, the stories and reading performances are too good to be lost forever. Most of the stories released back then were abridged i.e. movie length*. Yet, they keep the spirit of the story intact. Click on Videos to see all the books on tape. Not sure if you want to listen to a particular audiobook, give it a 10 minute listen to decide. Enjoy!
* I found that most unabridged versions, of the audiobooks on this channel, are on paid streaming channels and so I can't put them online without getting a copyright strike. Plus there's more cost and work involved. A 20 hour book on tape (vs say a 3 hour abridged) takes 20 hours to upload (vs 3 hours). Additional time is required to remove; hissing, pops, and improve the sound. If you want unabridged audiobooks, you'll want to look elsewhere.

The second story of this, ‘Rumpole and the Age for Retirement’ starts at 1:08:30
In 1982 we got our first video recorder. The night before I deployed to the Falklands I watched the superb film version. Not long afterwards I felt like I was living the movie. It resonated hugely, especially when I lost friends. After that it became a tradition to watch the film before I deployed on operations. Possibly the best British war film ever made.

Keeps playing stupid music over narration.
Daniel kept a consistent tone to his rendition. This edition is well reduced for length, compared to the novel.
Trained actors do a good read :-)
Richard does a good read. Another example of how much of a book can be excised, without missing much :-)
Thanks
I am in my mid 80s. We lived in Birmingham right across the road from the airstrip of the factory where Spitfires were built. My parents had girls living with them who were building them. I saw lots of air action and bombing, along with living in our bomb shelter for weeks on end. The worst we got was chimneys knocked down and roof damage. Although I was only a child I have many strong memories of those times. Thank you I enjoyed listening to this book. We are fewer who remember these brave young men and women .
To those that were complaining, think about this for a moment; unless it's the Lovecraft narrators (Wayne June, HorrorBabble etc,) most full audiobooks on here are pretty bad. If they're not garbage quality, they're poorly performed or they're Libravox. There are not many full audiobooks that have quality narration, and when there are they get taken down faster than crooks holding up a police station. The fact that these brief quality audiobooks (minor audio issue not withstanding) are still on here at all is kind of impressive. It could be worse really.
You could have to actually pay for them :-)
@@charlessmyth In this economy? Good luck with that lmao.
Does anyone know where / if it’s possible to find the complete audio book with this narrator? I checked Audiable, but there the book is read by another gentleman, and I really like the way it is read in this (as in this video), so I hope to get hold of the complete edition.

Perfect.
He's always amusing.
Dang, these novellas and other “public “ paperbacks have really great stories compared with modern )2020s) stories and films. Shirley Jackson, Doris Lessing, Neville, Orwell, Daphne DuMarea Salinger (particularly not Catcher..) Patricia highsmith etc Hollywood is been raiding this for 50-70 years now .
we need with the letters or lyrics please
why is it abridged?
Eagle has landed read by Edward Fox please
Oh my…
Enjoying the history.

“You’re better than any player I ever had, & you’re the best God damn hitter I ever saw…. Suit up.” -- Pop Fisher the 🐐
Great book and excellent movie/documentary
Just one of many things it means to be British looking forward to the proms...
that was brilliant ... what an incredible story. wonderful
I enjoyed this- thank you 🙏🏽
Dreadful !! The director here should have taken him aside . What sort of accent was he attempting....?? His father was well known Canadian born Raymond Massey ( big in the 1940s / 50s ) . Sister was Anna. ! Anyway , this just sounds like a caricature of the film noir " private Dick...!!
Folk, do you remember who played Karla? Sir. Patric Stewart before he's become worldwide famous as Capitain Picard. Great production. Love Le Carré's novels.
This is not the full audio book. The full one is 28hrs long. The story jumps around alot and I only caught it because i have read the books along time ago.
Rhubarb Pie Makes one deep dish or two regular pies. In a mixing bowl Combine 4 cups rhubarb cut into half inch pieces, fresh or frozen is ok. 2 eggs Cup of brown sugar 3/4 cup white sugar 2 Tbl spoons flour A little freshly grated nutmeg 2 Tbl spoons half and half Bottom crust can be homemade or just use frozen pie crusts. Makes 2 regular pies or one deep dish pie. Topping You have to double the toppings recipe if you make two shallow pies. In a food processor add 1/2 cup flour 1/4 cup Brown sugar 1/4 cup cold Butter cut into small pieces. Pinch of salt Pulse until you get a crumble topping then add 1/4 cup rolled oats for one or two last pulses. Put rhubarb mixture into bottom crust and spread crumble topping on top. Bake @ 375 F for 45 minutes to 1 hour, On a foil lined baking sheet. (If it bubbles over it’s a bit of a clean up) The center of pies should have some bubbling movement when done. If the edges of the crust begin to get too brown cover edges in aluminum foil. Best when served warm with a scoop vanilla frozen custard, or if you are in a less fortunate part of the country, you can use vanilla ice cream. If you don’t like rhubarb pie, there’s a chance we wouldn’t be friends. Also, If you serve it to rhubarb pie newbies, start them off with a very thin, little, tiny slices, because an unfinished slice might cause ill feelings.
😂Too many moaners. If they are offended why not read the unabridged version, that is if they can read.?
Sounds like a mix of Russell Crowe and Richard Burton. Crikey!
Chapter 8 1:11:25 Chapter 9 1:19:54
Doesn't quite sound like Odo,
Good story, good upload as usual.
❤
I have listened to this audio book many times. Briiliantly read by George Sewell. Thank you.❤ from Timor-LESTE. 35:27 35:30
If there was ever an example of perfect casting, it would have to be McKern and Rumpole. I used to watch the show on PBS.
Just to let you know that Ben Ackland has read the full version, chapter by chapter and has put it in his KZread channel.
🐱📖☕👍 Good story thank you for sharing❤
No "big plot holes"...masterful book.. the 14hr unabridged version on YT also..no ads.
Living in Nottingham, I love this...
Just awful.
Robert powell is top of the food chain of narrators😂
Very well read but too abridged to appreciate the detail. I would have enjoyed a longer version.
