Beautifully written. Appreciate it as an author today of adventure stories for young adults. 'They' say the genre is out of date; unpopular nowadays. I'm willing to be the exception. One writes what we have in us.

A bridge to my childhood when we found adventure in the written word...in an analogue world where digital did not exist, when televisions the size of a small bus were rare, and ready meals had not been invented. I thank my lucky stars for those days. This classic tale is welcome and much appreciated. Thank you.

Growing up in South Africa, we didn't have television until the mid 70's. We spent our free time outside exploring the wilderness and reading books by CS Forester.

It’s nice to hear this novel read by the man who played a very good Hornblower in the tv series. Like listening to Sherlock Homes read by Benedict Cumberbatch

I agree completely about the link to childhood - I also remember a brilliant BBC drama of many of the Hornblower books with brilliant sound effects. I had to do The Gun at school as well. Thank you for posting this one - others would be welcome.
