Not surprised - After my manual focus film Leica R 5.2 many years ago, which was a great camera, I have never trusted the Leica electronics or enjoyed their ergonomics - over the years I have tried but gave up on an M8, M9, CL, M240 , SL (original) and M10 . Combining Leica lenses with Japanese handling and electronics sounds a great way forward..

I own a Fujifilm X100S which I purchased new in 2014, when they came out. At the time, not many knew about the X100 line. Anyway, last year, I wanted to have a sensor clean, and my display had a small scratch. I contacted Fujifilm in New Jersey where they have a repair center. The told me to fill in the form and to send the camera. I filled in the form, sent the camera, only to get it back untouched, with a message telling me it was too old, and they did not have spares to work on it. Automatically, it means no more Fujifilm cameras for me. I was going to purchase a Leica Q3, only because I was told you can send a Leica for repair independently of its age. Leica will always try to fix it.

@@paultaylorphotography9499This is indeed why paying a premium for a camera means! there are very few brands that do that, I am glad that you discover that Leica goes out of its way to satisfy their customers. To them, it is not red money. They just make sure you will be a returning customer one day. Makes sense, honestly never saw the point in the SL series, plenty of competition in the "traditional" slr style camera market, even within L-mount. Leica's M & Q cameras are at least pretty unique (more so the M's) so I understand the allure of those far more than the SL line

I mean, the Leica SL range are basically „Panasonic in fancy“. They feel slightly nicer in your hands but other than that, yeah, there is not really that much of a point of having them. The beauty in the Leica SL-Series is the build quality and the most important thing the usability. I don't have to think when I'm using the SL2-S, everything feels good and even sounds good, this is what makes Leica great, but it's great for my needs; someone else maybe needs a quicker AF or a different button layout. But I don't understand the argument that there is better competition in the market, there is really no point in comparing a Sony or Canon with a Leica, it's a different style of camera for a different kind of photographer. Because of youtube reviewers I was afraid that my Leica wouldn't perform good enough because there are cameras with better AF ... but I don't need and don't like this features ... I am the kind of photographer who 99,9 % shoots in single shot modus with a single point autofocus ;) I've tried many cameras, but for me it's more important that a camera inspires me. By the way the SL2-S has s superior EVF, it's a chefs kiss. She's my big lady and I hope she will be on my side for a long time.

Hello again, Chris. Congratulations on your change & choice of camera/lens systems. The 2 Leica lenses you retained, together with the 35mm F/1.4, would be my all time favourite prime lenses, if I could afford to buy, rather than hire them. The SL3 would probably be my "full frame" camera choice, again if money were no object. Starting from my former Fujifilm X base, but with a clean sheet, I looked at both the Lumix & Sony systems. As a stills photographer with interests in capturing fast moving subjects, I opted for an A9ii & have been blown away by the autofocus capture/tracking, compared with the X-H2. I'm sure the Lumix will more than satisfy your needs, and the new MRP is quite amazing & nearly caused me purchase into the Lumix system - but the pull of a mint used Sony, at even less cost, was too much. I've retained my Q1, as I'm sure, I'd miss the superior build quality, the ergonomics & above all that incredible 28mm F/1.7 lens - sometimes you just don't need the fastest autofocus or 40+ megapixels, when you've got one of the best wide angle prime lenses & terrific EVF! The thing is that for people not wanting the generate ‘likes’ on KZread’ swapping camera systems is both expensive, usually regretful, and ultimately makes them go out and take all the same photographs over again to compare images with what they’ve just sold. It’s rarely a creative turnaround in a photographers output, whereas inspirational ideas, or introducing new techniques can be creatively productive.

Your comment about the Lumix doing a better job than the Leica....well that is true for many cameras lets face it. The sony A9/alpha 1 for example. Leica is truly a strange club to join and one that I went into for several years buying the M9 and lenses. I saw the light after a couple of years and moved on to better functioning cameras which had equal or better output. Played with the SL but quickly realised it was bigger, poorer handling and average output compared to most of the full frame competition.I wont get fooled again

It’s strange isn’t it? Feels like they have so much promise but seem to fall down on really obvious parts of the camera. I guess they’ll always have their fans…but not me anymore. Although - I love their lenses and have kept some and they’re amazing.

Somewhat off topic but I am considering Leica SL 601 or GFX50s. Which output you liked the most and which did you prefer? Is the SL evf so much better than the GFX EVF? Many thanks.

hi there, personally I would prefer the body of the Leica and the output of the Fujifilm GFX50. I really liked the GFX50 RAW files, far more than the Leica RAW files. Don't get me wrong, both a fab, but that's just my opinion.
