    Great book for a beginner . kzread.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.

    Guys, I don't care how skillful you are on a table saw. Never push a piece of wood against the fence down and back. If you want to do that, you use a guide on the fence. Something up against the fence to use as an initial star point and then you push through so there's no tension of the piece of wood against the fence once it's going through the blade.

    @@ThExitest because the saw is spinning so insanely fast if it deflects slightly for whatever reason or you push the wood at an odd angle by accident the blade can catch the wood and pinch it between itself and the fence and if this happens it basically launches the wood turning it into a high speed projectile. Not only does this obviously impose a risk to whoever it makes contact with, but in that moment you are likely to be very startled, you were likely pressing on the wood if you weren't using a push stick and if you aren't careful you might stumble forwards and make contact with the blade. Anyone here ever used a bench polishing wheel and had it grab a piece of work and pull it away from you and you've gone forward and lightly touched the fabric wheel? Exact same concept here except with a table saw instead of just brushing them it removed them!

  • @idhatemet00

    @idhatemet00

    Жыл бұрын

    There's actually no harm in registering the piece against the fence while using the miter gauge as long as it's not a through cut, i.e. like is done in the video, dados, etc. Because they are not through cuts there is no chance of the the off cut binding between the fence and work piece which would otherwise potentially result in kick back. Stump nubs made a video about it if you don't want to just take my word for it :)

If he was actually in the business, this would be unacceptable because he is actively and knowingly ruining what he is making.

    Tony, I advise you to never do any actual woodworking because you have no clue what you are talking about. Stick with just watching videos about there bud. Plus you didn't even pay attention to the video, if you had you would have seen that he is using a mitre sled to do the cutting and support the wood. There are literally zero chances of a kickback.

Lol before you go on lecturing about this dude about woodworking at least get the general understanding of the functions of your tablesaw lol…

    @@orion7741 and as I explained earlier, this way of cutting albeit it is in a 45 deg angle, that fence purpose is to put pressure on the stock sides so it is to your desired width…. Hence “rip cut”. Miter gauge is to place pressure on its bottom as you’re pushing it forward to give a desired length “cross cut”. This video shows a person getting away with not having a serious accident but in general this isn’t safe practice. You use a miter gauge and a fence at the same time you’re placing pressure on the side and the bottom… that kerf pinched lol you better be somewhere else You’ll be lucky if it’s just the wood flinging back and punching you in the gut…. There’s many people that lost fingers and have hands amputated cause of dumb 💩 like that

    I don’t think it’s a bad idea to pull the piece back over the blade if it’s not a through cut. For example, using a box jointing or dado blade to make multiple cuts on an edge. You don’t have to worry about the piece pinching if the total number of pieces after the cut is still 1 since you have complete control of that 1 piece.

    @@outkast937 It IS cut across the full width of the piece in this video. Did you watch it? He also leaves a small piece within the triangular cut so that the cutoff doesn’t wedge against the blade and kick back. When I say “not a through cut,” I’m referring to cuts such as dado, groove, half lap, etc. if you’re using a crosscut sled, it would be more dangerous to grab the piece across the blade and reposition it front of the saw. Please don’t give woodworkers advice.

    SMH. That is actually a dangerous way to use a tablesaw and an excellent opportunity for a kickback. Never wana use the miter gage AND the fence. Use a spacer block clamped against the fence to initially set depth of cut, then make the cut with miter gage without the work riding against the fence and there is no chance of binding / kickback.
