I consider myself a Christian and have never had a problem listening to King Diamond, Slayer, Morbid Angel, you name it. The Number Of The Beast is actually a very uplifting song. It comes from a poem, Tam O Shanter? And other things Steve Harris was interested in. The Omen ll, I think? At any rate, the person listening is supposed to be scared at what's happening. Its telling a story.

Today, as a middle-aged devout Christian Minister, I still enjoy listening to Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and the like. There is nothing in the lyrics that would lead one to evil, on the contrary, more often it warns the listener of evil.

I loved your reaction in this song. It was like watching a kid visiting a toy store for the first time XD. There are too many Maiden songs that are amazing. If you want to laugh, check Holy Smoke. Musically it is not so grand, but the lyrics are amazing/hilarious. Steve (the bass player) was critized by a televangelist called Jimmy Swaggart, and that ended in a very nasty legal dispute (which the Minister lost) because he was burning records and basically slandering the band (especially Steve), using his picture on one of his books and calling them Satan worshipers and so on. Steve and Bruce wrote Holy Smoke as a revenge, and it's awesome. (btw, the pastor lost his ministry bacause he was photographed with a prostutite and for misusing the Church´s funds)

Paragon84 not really. Satan and Hell come from the Christian Bible. Also, dismissing god(s), and devils, heaven and hell for lack of evidence is not a belief, but the lack of one.

Hey man. Iron Maiden Fear of the Dark specifically the Rock in Rio live version. The album version is underwhelming because this song was meant to be heard live. I've seen maiden 5 times. Nothing compares to Fear live. The Clansman (scottish clans) comes close, both album and live versions of that are great. Fear of the dark is the required live Maiden song.

Been a maiden fan since Eddie was a teen, and what I've noticed is not many people are talking about how hard it was for maiden to get airplay in the 80s. It literally took a decade for them to finally get their due. But even without the airplay they sold out every concert throughout the world year after year, and this was before they were famous by today's standards. Iron maiden was the hardest working band of the 80s. ☮️

While you were talking about the controversy that came up when this, and other, songs/groups came out in the past, it dawned on me what a unique opportunity these reactions are for all of history from here forward. See, I was born in the sixties and my generation was furtunate to be able to hear the songs that our parents grew up with in the 50's, but I have no idea really what my grandparents experience was. What their music was, if any. Back then, music wasn't so transportable thru space and time as it is now. While I'll never know what my grand- or great-grand- parents experienced musically, I know that my grandchildren (on the way now) will have the chance to experience the musical part of their great-grandparents lives. I'll be able to tell them about the music they loved and let them experience it first hand, either thru services like youtube or by exploring the collection i've built over 40+ years, since I was a teenager. This is so unique!! My grandparents had no music for me to hear and my parents music was mostly from their late 20's on. I can't imagine the long-term societal implications of this kind of transference. But getting back to the controversy...my parents didn't have a musical perspective of their past available to them, to the extent that I have available to me. For our parents the implications of music probably seemed very unfamiliar, and as is often the case with the unfamiliar, we often react in fear. So, yea, "you'll burn in hell for listening to that stuff" kinda seems more understandable when I see things from their perspective. Keep up the good work.

Bruce Dickinson is so expressive and wild with his stage antics because, as I read from him decades back, in their heyday, that he performs that way for his fans... not just the ones in the front rows but for the ones WAY BACK in the bleachers in the biggest arenas ! He puts on the show for them because they deserve it too !
