I've been watching this video every now and then for the pass few years, and here I am today watching it again in 2022, maybe I'll watch it in 2023 haha. Great video though, I love seeing videos of people just catching fish, octopuses, crabs, eels, and many more It's just really satisfying to me on how people can just catch these things. Thanks for making this video and hopefully I'll remember to leave a comment here in 2023!

@@ojisama1510 Possibly because I'm currently a 13 year old and I don't live near a beach or the ocean, maybe one day I'll get to have the chance to go fishing at a dock, lake, or even in the ocean! There's a whole other world to explore in the deep sea, It's fascinating and scary at the same time. Maybe when I get old enough I can have my first fishing trip, that's just a dream though but who knows it might just happen!

That's a great catch!

This would be a cool idea for crab fishermen. A camera that had a light, in the cage and ran an antenna up the buoy line so you could remotely monitor your traps seeing what is working and what is not as you were in range to get the transmission. That way you can let them soak or move them as needed or when successful pick them up. Probably expensive but for king crab fishermen it might be a game-changer.

I really like this idea. I have often thought about conducting an experiment to see what crabs like to eat the best and your idea would allow for real time study of the diet of crabs and their life down at the bottom of the sea. You should work on a proto-type. Thanks for the message, Scott

Good video Scott. Dungeness Crab season started yesterday. Should be a good year. Going out this morning with the guys. Back east in the Chesapeake I had much success. Used a trot line to catch crab . Works great and fun. On the radio we would hear news that the police believed someone dumped bodies in the bay. We would say, " crabs will be real fat this year." :>)

Yep. That crab is now famous all across the land for getting right up to the camera lens that day. He has since found his fame and fortune by starting up his own KZread channel.

That was really cool Scott...thanks for sharing...I surf and would like to give this a try....where do you get a trap like that and learn the 411?

First off you will need a CA sport fishing license. The trap was purchased at Big 5 Sporting Goods (approx. 45$) you need to buy a float kit too (maybe 15$). Then review the Dept. of Fish and Game regulations for sport fishing before you catch any crabs (you have to follow the rules). Make sure you strap the cage to your board with a bungee cord like I did in my video. You should have a long board if you are planning on doing this. You will want to place the trap in an area that has a sandy bottom (not rocky). Check a marine chart to see what the area looks like near where you want to go. Also, be sure to watch out for sharks if you are thinking of doing this around San Francisco (just sayin'). Good luck and happy crab hunting.

I live in So Cal and would most likely be doing this in the northern LA county area...hopefully no sharks, but a some Juvenal great whites have been spotted lately near Santa Monica and HB...is cooking and cleaning easy/ hard?

You will need to cook the legal sized crabs the same day you catch them. Never eat a dead crab or you might get sick. You will have boil the crabs for 20 to 25 minutes to cook them all the way. I add 1 cup of salt to approximately 4 gallons of water and use a outdoor propane power burner and a huge pot (I cook them outside by the way). The pot and power burner are typically sold as a set at a BBQ supply store and are used to deep fry a turkey but I use mine for boiling crabs. You can only boil about 5 or 6 large crabs at one time in the standard 5 gallon sized pot. Once they are cooked it is time to host a crab eating party... Just find a good video that features cleaning your cooked crab. Good luck.
