Your first point made me laugh Matt. I always used to tee off with my 3 wood/hybrid/3 iron because i couldnt hit driver to save my life. Then a few months ago i watched your video on how to stop your slice with your driver (id watched loads already but none was working for me), however the coaching points that you gave really helped me and after a bit of work i am now a lot me accurate with driver and dont slice it anywhere near as much as i used to. However, now i am topping my woods fatting my long irons and im not sure why!? 🤣🙈🤦‍♂️

Great lesson on the mistakes that happen on 4's. I have begun to think about the approach shot to the green and work from there. IF I use this club, I will need that club to get on the green. The longest hole on my course is 494m or 540 yards. Last time out I hit a lot of irons off the tee for accuracy, as I had been slicing my driver badly previously, (I'm playing off 24), and had been practising my irons on the range. At this hole I hit 3 iron to the left edge of the fareway, 3 iron in the fareway, and 4 iron into the green. It shows that course management can be as important as length. It is helped by the fact we are in the summer and we are getting good carry and roll.

I usually don't feel comfortable with distance control using a putter from off the green, probably because I don't practice it. What I do instead is choose a club based on distance from the hole, and swing it like a putter. 8-iron is my favorite club for most of those chips. I get it over the taller grass then rolling like a putt pretty quickly. I've even made some of those from upwards of 50 feet. On the flip side, I've played with some guys on my favorite course, which has greenside bunkers that usually don't have a lip, who use putter from the bunkers. Hey, if you're more comfortable with that shot, go for it.

  • @anniinapaatsama

I really don't agree with the hybrid of the tee. In my opinion you should either lay up short of all the bunkers or then just smash driver. If the bunker is in play with the hybrid and I hit a poor shot then I have a long second shot from a pot bunker which doesn't seem ideal at all 😅

I mean the first hole is so short, it is clear that driver is not the right club. Many holes are longer where you are forced to hit driver although there are penaltyareas near the landing zone. Not hitting driver on these holes would result in 230 into the flag which is a pain in the butt on a par 4.

Should use the Rule of 12 when chipping? Don't just grab the lob or pitching wedge unless you compute your fly/roll percentage per club loft.

I understand not driving par 4s, but it’s just so much fun to hit driver.

Hope the divot was repaired? It would be nice for me to hit a ball 230 yards, 200 is good for me!

My 3 and 5 wood is as unpredictable as my driver, maybe I should tee off with my 8 iron! :D

Unless there are bunkers, stats prove hitting it longer and, as long as it’s in play, that will be your best option for strokes gained

For better players. Not sure where you play but here mid to high handicaps that wouldnt prove true. I dont know any mid or high handicap that is better 20 yards closer to the hole but in 3 inch rough vs fairway. Most just dont know how to handle thick rough from 150-200+

That only works when you have an army of ball spotters and marsahals to find the balls.

All alright, I respect the fact that your the pro, and I am, well very, much NOT. I have my 20-year-old clubs, and the bag that is falling apart, me personally I'd have used my 9 iron on that shot just to get a tad extra speed, and it wouldn't have rolled so far away from the green, up a hill I use the 9-iron, down the hill normally my PW. But since the PW is the only wedge I have....I am really hoping I get new clubs soon.

It is like he plays with me.... I had to go to a putter when just off the green... our course cuts that rough fairly close anyway... no need for that darn wedge. And those short puts... our group the old guys can sink putts like pros except for those 3 footers.. more misses than hits.... thanks

I have about a 360 yard drive on average... lol I'm just about/or on the green on most par 4's sooo... I should negate the chip shot and pull out a 7 iron? Lol I think this is geared towards struggling golfers. Most amateurs have big drives but can't putt worth a crap

Let me save you some time. How to play a par 4, do some course management which means before and while you play, use apps or the internet to see a map of the course/holes. So If a par 4 is something like 400 yards, hit a club that will leave you a distance that you are comfortable hitting into a green or a certain club. Simple!
