    This guy has a beautiful golf swing. He, obviously knows what he is doing and articulates his concepts so well. There is no way he damaged Tiger's swing.

    The fuck.. I worked at OCN for 4 years. I know Sean personally and he's actually a friend. the hell is with these comments. Apparently haters don't know that a coach guides a golfer and doesn't actually golf for them. Foley's legit. He knows more about the biomechanics and swing than any other teacher out there.

    I use this as an approach shot, essentially. I call it a “punch”, but I’m not sure if that’s a proper description. I learned accidentally that if I use my 125 yard PW in this way I consistently got 75 yards out of it, and I was far more accurate than if I tried to hit my 58° the full 75 yards. That expanded to the clubs above and below my PW so that I now can use the same swing with different clubs and they vary by about 10 yards each. I tend to get a lower trajectory that stops quickly.

    I live this drill. I do it a lot. I play to about scratch. Yet, I see less advanced golfer doing no drills at all. They just start banging balks full tilt. I am trying to teach my brother how to swing. I refer to the movie, The Karate K8d, where Mr. Myagi will not let his student engage in learning Karate until weeks and weeks of doing the on off swiping motion. I taught for years, and virtually everyone trying to learn was so impatient to get to hitting it full, without doing drills. They see a good player swing and have no concept of the background work that went into getting there.

    There's an awesome video where Sean shows how some people use the left arm improperly and "fake a turn" .... It's just a part of a video clip where he primarily shows how to coil the right butt cheek and right shoulder blade back to coil properly and I can't find it. It's a free content video on KZread I think, any help locating it would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Moe Norman said the swing is only three feet long! How u enter the hitting zone and how u exit that zone! His setup and the sequence of motion from that setup was second to none! I wish Sean could have spent time with him. I am sure he could have clarified many things about this swing! For myself it is the only swing I can perform!

    This method works...and it makes it so much easier to get under the ball or compress it.... The hip and knee slide forward is what gives you that extra time to get the swing in line. This method saves your back, and being a tall golfer I can tell you it helps tremendously. I can use a standard length club instead of an extended one. The extra power you get from a full hip rotation and using the left side is important, but it also counters the whole idea of sliding under and through the ball. You have to pivot around your spine and extend your arms to get the right angle or you'll top it every time. The right side swing eliminates this tendency by allowing you to hack through the ball like an axe, but by timing your release properly with your hip slide and right knee flex you make good contact higher on the face and get good loft and speed. If you elevate the ball with a tee you can hit it like a stinger effortlessly. I use right and left side swings depending on the lie and club I'm using...My driver swing speed is 120, and I hit it off the left big toe. Thanks for reading.

    When I shorten the arc in my back swing, the results are I have More feel, more Control and anything that I'm doing wrong can be more easily identified within a more discipline swing, shorter arc, slow and smooth with a pause at the top. Impact is what matters the most and it's important to have a controlled swing so you can identify where you need be and what is happening.

    Also I think the reason this method fell out of favor is that clubs got longer, lighter, and faster. This allowed a fuller rotation around the spine without injury. If you ever swung an old heavy short driver or forged blade then you know how easy it is to overextend your back muscles....

    I believe the best consistency swing is a controlled swing, it is that you don't throw your club at the ball, you draw it pass through the ball, while also importantly minimizing all moving parts of your body. The best representative in men's swings is Adam Scott's, he has big shoulder turn but minimum hip turn, that is to stabilize lower body during swing and that achieves accuracy and thus consistency. My advice is to control your urge to hit hard, and try to hit it softly when you drill.

    I tried this... you said if you hit your 8 iron 160yds, this will go 100 yds. Well, I tried it with my SW which I hit about 110, and doing this, I was still hitting between 100 and 110. Not sure if I'm doing it right.

  • @avp802

    @avp802

    A SW already uses a typically shorter backswing than an 8-iron, so that could be why.

  • @rayrapp8929

    @rayrapp8929

    I tried it with a PW which I hit about 100 yds or so, it still went much the same distance! I think it is possibly because in my full swing I lose some power through poor technique. This drill promotes a much crisper action especially through the hitting zone where power is more economical through a better leg action.

    It’s the “get taller” part that’s incorrect. See Tom Watson’s take on this. He discovered a concept he had not given much thought to before, while watching a Corey Pavin practice drill. If you get taller after impact, you a) would have had to have “gotten taller” on the takeaway or backswing, b) lose the arc path Mr. Foolery always seems to be so adamant about (one of the correct things he teaches). It’s more about torso tilt. If you can maintain it throughout the back and forward parts of the swing, your arc path will deliver an accurate clubface to target position, will be easier to maintain consistency, and will allow for the most efficient leverage. There’s more to it, of course. But in watching this, I can certainly see where the problems begin and adjustments start for the players he “coaches”. Mr. Foolery needs to study more and think he knows-it-all less. Guys come out of nowhere in their “professions” through self-promotion and a lot of bullshitting. What they forget to do is become expert in their craft. This is done by studying what came before. Believe it or not, 15 years doing something is not a very long time. Realize one thing before you consider yourself “legendary”: if you think you have discovered something new…you haven’t. It has all been done before. Using different terminology does not constitute improvement.

    "You have to get taller". Yeah I know what he meant and where it happens but what an ugly thought to put into a students head. Getting taller is something you should NEVER need, or want to, think about. It's natural byproduct of a good golf swing. Momentum carries you there. Most golf instructors are not trained teachers so they often don't realize what impact certain words and phrases can have on a student. All one student might have heard in this lesson is "you have to get taller" . Chances are good that he/she will get taller all right but at the wrong time.
