I bought the "Head First" CD over a decade ago when it was first released. Having listened to "Alive" many, many times since then, the song has never made me think of Goths and vampires doing aerobics... until now. 😲

I still don't understand how Goldfrapp didn't get the same recognition as other artists. She was before Gaga, but just as talented & yet she didn't take off in the same way.

I think that's a fair question from here in the USA. I never hear Goldfrapp on the FM radio, but they still play old Madonna songs that are overplayed for the billionth time. Like anything else in the US media, politics overrides talent. You say as good as Gaga, I think Goldfrapp is much better...Voice, lyrics, composing, synths, etc, but just my opinion.

It’s a HD remaster of the original video to celebrate the upcoming release of the reissue for their album, ‘Head First’. Also the music video for ‘Alive’ was never on the bands main channel, only Mute’s.

Definitely musical chameleons. Tales of Us is one my faves too, but a lot of what they do is just fun dance pop. GOOD fun dance pop, to be sure, but I don't find it emotionally or intellectually compelling. I did like the humorous video for this one though.

They agree with you too haha, they've often said that this album was thrown together really quickly because of record company pressure and that it's their least favorite. There's some pretty good tunes on Head First, but it is definitely the more light-hearted, not too serious album of their discography, which is sometimes the mood I'm in

It was hard to watch as a non-religious person. Not sure why she chose to chuck all of this out there for this single. Love the song, but the video concept just seems misplaced & pretty silly!

Great song back in the day, but i could never understand what all the freemasonic symbolism in the video had got to do with the music itself ? e.g. pyramid, the all seeing eye, simulated ritual sacrifice and blood drinking, simulated summoning of demons ? ( laser beams coming from the hands and manifesting demons ), i mean, was i missing something here ? This kind of symbolism seems to be ubiquitous in nearly every other music video and concert/festival these days, and its becoming......well......BORING, to say the least🥱

I agree. You won't get many asking such questions or questioning it all in the official comment section because it's just not on to be critical in any way. She's always had a bit of a witchy Pagan thing going on throughout her career and that's just been kind of part of the charm. But I agree that this it taking it to the extreme for reasons I don't understand at all. Love Goldfrapp, but this is overboard for me. She was never a poser, but this seems affected and pretentious. Not sure why at all. I know that it's all conceptual and was choreographed & scripted by by a duo called Legs (there's meaning of sorts behind all of the metalheads & 70's disco dancers, vampires and whatever else). I love the song and personally wish she'd just done one of her own videos for it. The song didn't chart, but was a big club hit in the UK. Who knows? Her image really shifted with the album Silver Eye (another great album). I recognized that straight away. Who wouldn't? It was a radical change as well. Some love it, some do not. What an overrated band...it was so clear from the start it was all about poses and packaging...

That's harsh!? Seventh Tree is anything but posing and packaging (and Felt Mountain). I wouldn't say overrated is fair at all. Latter albums have certainly seemed more affected and pretentious (to be very honest as a fan), but Silver Eye is a very decent electronica album. They've put out one "silly" album that I can think of, but even that was a rush job that they don't like. You've a right to your opinion, but if you find Seventh Tree full of poses and packaging, I'd be surprised. There is a ton of really crappy electronica out there. This duo have talent at least! Having said all of that, I will say that this song is just okay, but the video is absolutely horrible! I wouldn't blame anyone for rolling their eyes and wondering if it was geared towards teenage goths for some weird reason.
