Fast 3D sketching of ancient architecture in 3DCoat, followed by rendering in a blender and processing in Photoshop.
Enjoy watching!
I want to show you the wonderful world of 3D graphics and concept art. My videos are not tutorials, they are motivational videos where you can see a huge number of different methods and tools for working with graphics.
My name is Alex Pi, I have been interested in 3D graphics since 2010 and since 2014 it has become my only source of income, in 2018 I realized that I needed more than just 3D modeling and visualization, I started to study conceptual design...
Used programs:
3D Coat, Blender 2.83, Cycles, Photoshop.

There are experts in one subject, then there are jack of all trades, then there's the master of all trades, and then there are very few legends. There was a point where it stopped being 3D art and I could literally just walk into the scene. As I climb up the steps admiring the long lost secrets of the gate I begin to see what truly lies in the heart of creation. You left no stone unturned, no blade of grass unbrushed, and no rim of light unblessed by your holy stroke... I hope one day I can be half the artist you are. A true scientist of nature. Your art could be the next sex icon for Men's magazine! Dude frickin good job!

If I can offer my humble answer: If you have an interest in this sort of stuff, you could begin by doing beginner tutorials for Blender and Photoshop. I recommend checking out the website : ctrlpaint and Blenderguru on KZread to start. It's good to keep a healthy interest in other people's experiments and workflows like Alex demonstrates: it will trigger you into experimenting. But eventually you have to put knowledge into practice, and acknowledge you will fail many times before achieving a desired result. Don't give up though, because you will learn from mistakes and use that knowledge into your next painting or concept

@@michiel-vdheuvel You're right, I've been trying to jump the gun too many times. I started with automotive design and I'm pretty good at it, but I've been trying to branch out to other things as well and it's been pretty tough, but that's cause I've been trying to do bigger projects without properly getting my foundations straight. I should look into other people's methods and slowly develop my own *then* go into those larger projects. Thx again for your comment mate :)

Alex Pi I get that but because of the statues not having a very simple silhouette, they seem confusing in the final render. Of course it doesn’t really matter because it is easy to identify that they are statues of some sort. Really great job 👍

Hello! I'm a concept art student, I'm always looking for someone to inspire me and help me to use new creative techniques, I must say that I was really impressed with this work!!. For various reasons I would need to use the ivy generator you used, but unfortunately when I try to import the meshes into the ivy generator they are all broken, do you have any advice? I have already tried to triangulate the meshes but it doesn't work.

The only reason the geometry breaks in this program is because it is not triangulated. But if you have already tried triangulate, then I don’t even know what to advise.

Wow - amazing work and excellent pipeline! I have one question if you don't mind asking: how you manage to decimate and import 37 million polygons form 3d Coat to Blender without loosing much detail?

  • @AlexPi

Thanks! When importing from a 3d koat, you can reduce the number of polygons, you can reduce it to 75-90% Then I use Decimate in blender to further reduce the polygon count.

I think that while you are learning, the $ 99 version will be enough, and in any case, you will be able to switch to another type of license simply by paying the rest.

Thanks a lot! My pc: Ryzen 5 2600X 32gb RAM RTX 2070s For optimization, I use the Decimate modifier and textures no higher than 2048x2048.
