As amazing as W&G is, I really wish I could have experienced the original ride. The Wild West theming is great and passing through the cafe sounds like so much fun.
So glad someone filmed this. I've always remembered as a kid a theme park ride where a train comes rushing through the cafe but have never found it after a Google search. Had to ask my mum this morning if I dreamt it. Thankfully she came back saying "No, that was the Gold Mine in Blackpool". Found this video and quite obviously, it doesn't quite come rushing through but I'm 42 now so back then, it probably looked really fast. I can still smell that stour aroma and when I heard "Oh my darling, Clementine" it felt like yesterday. Thanks to the uploader. 👍🏼

Unfortunately the Gold Mine is closed down now, and the River Caves that you could also view from below the gold mine track via the Cafe had been cordoned off. So now they are sealed off from each other. Shame as this was a great part of River Caves, or the Gold Mine that you could see other parts of the park.

Yeah I remember this being a fast ride and looking at this it really wasn’t , probably at that age I was a wimp so this seemed fast to me. The cafe integration bit was great , that shouldn’t have gone
Just a classic dark ride. As a kid you were unsure and huddled up to mum or dad. Then eventually you would come out of hiding and see the sights. What a great memory for many of us. Good Times x
This is phenominal priceless footage thankyou ❤
Gone but not forgotten - great memories of this ride
Brilliant footage, really do miss this ride. It felt so authentic!

Thanks as always. You're absolutely right, something I took for granted as a kid, and grew up unquestioning, so its only as an adult, and now Wallace & Gromit is there, that I've contemplated Blackpool Pleasure Beach does NOT have an industrial gold mining history! lol

Hold Tight Riders same was one of my favourites
I would love a ride in the Gold Mine again... so much atmosphere and memories.
Use to really like this ride. It didn't do much. And smelt really weird. But I loved the concept of going through the cafe (never did find that actual cafe either!) and waving at all the diners. Ah simple pleasures

Ah, the Magnolia Cafe, you entered it next to the Ghost Train.

It was once known as the Bourbon St Cafe. The river cave ride also used to pass through the cafe. I remember the smell of machine oil (or something similar) in the cafe.
That was one of my favourite things about that ride was going past the cafe. Same with river caves

It was lovely wasn't it... really miss the Magnolia Cafe, and the river caves just isn't the same with the 1/2 sized grotto!

What river caves use to be bigger ?

@@simonp7095 one the sections of the river caves has a low ceiling and lots of leds. I suppose to simulate stars. It used to be bigger. And there was a cafe where you could look down at the passing boats and the gold mine went through the same room. But it's Wallace n gromit now. Same track I think.
Thanks for uploading this. I remember it so well from summer holidays spent at Blackpool. (I'm 50 now!) I remember the puff of air you felt on your face at the start as the car went down the track to give the impression of high speed! Loved it. So sad to know it has gone.

lol Yes Hayley, it was more of a scenic ride than anything fast or scary!
Love this ride wish it would come back thanx for the video 😁🤠
3:18 - Indiana Jones frozen in Carbonite instead of Han Solo, since Harrison Ford played both characters, and also as a reference to the classic mine cart chase scene from The Temple Of Doom to go with the theme and environment of the ride.
this ride was far far better than the walace and gromit ride..... getting rid of a gem for crap...crazy.
This was much better than wallace and gromit. A blackpool classic. Have you got any footage of the "The Greatest Show on Earth" ride?
It was a brilliant ride. Had more stuff to look at. With W&G you have to many scenes which are blank, looked like it was rushed and the scenes are just to static.

I like W&G, but I expected a story, not just a series of quotes from the films!
Reminds me a lot of Black Diamond and Blazing Fury in the USA! Which I never realised until watching this now 😆 I do miss this 😭

I had quite forgotten how, aside from the mannequins, it was really convincing!
Sadly missed this! As a kid i was a big scaredy-cat and Gold Mine and River Caves we’re all I was really interested in at Blackpool. Loved the interaction with the cafe and Caves - all sadly gone now. Do we call it progress?

I was comparing before & after POVs of the caves. But they hadn't bothered with the cafe for a few years. Shame as loved that part of the park.
Good points when I went on this all those years ago-going past the cafe and above the river caves. Bad point-the drop because I wasn't prepared for it.
Very vague memories of this but I remember enjoying it as a kid!

I think I took it for granted, as we do until its gone! LOL
I think that they should rebuild the gold mine ride back at the pleasure Beach aswell as keeping Wallace and gromit were it is built the gold mine ride next to the river cave's by removing the arcade
I fell like it will return in 2050 . I Think it's easy to bring it back
Very similar to a small version of the Calico Gold Mine in Knotts Berry Farm
Within tory britain our kids might be able to soon experience scenes like this for real😆
love it old footage , but still love wallace and grommit

I love Wallace and grommit but the ride is boring , I can see from this footage that the mine train was better
Don't get me wrong I love the Wallace and gromit films I've even got some of the teddy's but this is a better ride than Wallace and gromit
was their go kart or car ride that went through some diner plesae let me know. we went to blackpool in oct 1979 for my brothers 10th birthday my oldest brother wanted to go on loop loop but i believe it was shut down, went back in 87 for day with my mum only 15 then but amazing time in arcades. space harrier, double dragon green beret paperboy. list go on, i think if i was reisdent of blackpool in my teens would spent fortune.

Hi, yes, the Gold Mine here went through the Magnolia Cafe, with the River Caves also passing through the same 'grotto' scene. The cafe had a balcony where you could sit and watch both rides passing.
I unfortunately never got to ride this when it was the gold mine
One of my favourite rides as a kid
