This has to be the best carousel in the whole world! Go on it early morning when there's not many ppl on, it goes much faster :-p

We went on this in the Half Term. I was way too excited when the organ started playing "The Carousel Waltz" from the musical. My geekiness was overindulged that day :D

I frickin loved this one. After every ride we went on when i went, we always came back to this one, and i always came off equally as happy as i was when i first came off. This has to be my favourite, ever.

This ride looks like such fun- It's like one massive carousel! Need to go on it, when next at the pleasure beach!

I was there yesterday I had to travel there from Scotland and that's my fav ride

I remember going on this ride in the 1970's for the first time,the horses now go up and down,that's usual,however the poles are now fixed.Then they moved backwards and forwards like a real race.There wasa large gap under the poles to let them"slide".

kat dolan They used to race in the 1990's when I was a child too. It is still my favourite ride there but wish it still raced. Hey Amanda unfix those poles girl.

I always have a big smile on my face whenever I go on this ride!! I love it!! :)

They look slow but when I was 6 I had to go on it I cried

They have one of these in the U.S. (Cedar Point) That one still has the back-and-forth movements, but the Blackpool Derby Racer still goes fast!

I agree. I loved that ride and wish it was around for my now 18 year old daughter to enjoy like I did

@@kemitstoes5764 This was at the CNE in Toronto I was referring to. Some brats broke in when the CNE was closed and destroyed the horses :(

This was and still is one of my favourites, a truly amazing carousel. Went on this as a child and will be taking my kids on it this summer :)

A modern built version of the American built Prior & Church Great American Racing Derby. The two original Prior & Church rides from the 1920's the horses move forward and backwards while going up & down.

My mum took me on this when I was really little (like 3 or 4) because she thought it was a normal carousel, just bigger Boy was she wrong 🤣

Love this ride

Blackpool is definitely on my "Bucket List"! I love this ride! I grew up with the Racing Derby at the Canadian National Exhibition and was heartbroken when they got rid of it in the late 1980's. Horrible time for carousels! :( Since then I've enjoyed the ones at Rye Playland and Cedar Point. I notice this one, like the one at the CNE has been fixed so the horses don't race eachother in the slots, though.

Interesting watched your "underground" video.I know this ride is pretty old.There was no organ music then either,more effective sounded like just the horses hooves.First time I was on this ride I loved it,always loved the old carousels from fairgrounds.

Well, this is on my bucket list now- and it makes me think of Mary Poppins

Don’t bother. It no longer races.

I went on this in the 90's as a kid and my dad came on with me. It was my idea to go in it but ended up in tears when I got off

@Babungus this has no padding and is quite heigh up.It is quite a shock to some going on this ride (more so on the outer horses,) how hard you have to hold on.Thanks for riding : )

I’d LOVE to see an equestrian ride this like a real horse.

Its next to Valhalla,the food in the pleasure beach is fine,and lots of fish 'n chips on the seafront too.

That things scared the shit outta me I was holding on for dear life XD

Pretending to be a badass by only holding the ropes, while in real life I can't even stay upright on a horse

@CoasterBob62 unfortunately it is usually closed before it's dark (closes at 20:00 at the weekends),maybe off season.

this thing is dead fast! when I went on I was like another crappy merry go round and when I was actually On I was like hold on or die!

i loved this ride managed to hold just by the rains not the handles. made me feel like a jockey

I can simulate the same feeling at home on my spinny chair. :)

I hope you get to ride this,make sure you get an outer horse they are fast and you have to hold on tight.

Dr Ivo Robotnik Geoffrey disabled it. Sad really it’s now got a nickname I came up with, derby loser.

Slow. If you want to see a fast Derby Racer, look up Derby Racer Rye Playland. They run it fast, Beautiful Illions-carved horses, but a couple years ago Playland slathered plain park paint all over them. They were beautifully painted before that. I grew up right next door to Rye Playland and you can imagine how many times I've ridden that incredibly fast Derby Racer.

He’s on the inside horses which are slow. Th3 outside ones are fast but it doesn’t race so now it’s derby loser.

No all the same size,but if you go on an inside horse they are slower.

@@mesmoland It actually is not a carousel, it is a Derby Racer. It still is a subdivision of carousels, but quite different. Carousels can go up to 8 RPMs. Derby Racers can go from 9 RPMs and up.
