The little spikey fish was a baby queenfish. Not that it’s well known but there spikes can sting a lot specially the ones under them. Learnt this from toe punting one into the water

Any tips on throwing the cast net over hand rails?

Nowadays when I throw over hand rails, cast net is too heavy/big if you cant lift it with one arm with elbow locked. Account for wind strength and direction. Although cast net have meshes(holes) it can still be like throwing a blanket in the wind. As you throw net over the rail, maintain parallelism to the water. Don't throw upwards.

No license where I live. But you should check your local regulations where you live.

I got it on 30lb mono leader.
