Hey mate, Great to always use a nylon coated trace as sharks have these sensors (ampullae of lorenzini??) which deter them away when they sense any sort of electrolysis. Some people even go a step further and heat shrink any bits of bare wire or crimps etc Always run a circle hook too. I’d do way with the treble as it can be a nuisance to unhook and you could possibly gut hook the shark - it would basically remove the purpose of fishing with a circle hook. When using just a circle hook you will have a greater hook up rate and the shark will be unlikely to shake or spit the hook free. When shark fishing a general rule of thumb I’ve found (so too fellow youtubers) is that you must use a mono leader/wind on attached between your braid and wire trace. Mono leader will act as a shocky, removing the strain from the braid, your rod and your reel. It will always counteract the wicked abrasion that occurs as the sharks tail whacks the mono. You’d be quite aware now after fishing offshore and hooking a few sharks that your mono comes back very abraised and scuffed. This is due to the tail whacks and the fact that sharks skin is literally sand paper. So, your mono leader needs to be approximately the size of shark you are targeting or are likely to encounter. In theory longer the better. The size of mono leader for canal bull sharks is typically going to be 60-80lb, however if you fish in the seaway or the likes where a bigger shark is more prevalent then step this up to 100-150lb mono. Trust me, there have been some huge sharks in there - I’ve been dusted using 80lb braid and 120lb mono.... however once again heavier leader is always ideal in theory (this is only in theory tho and a heavier leader isn’t always ideal as I will point out) If using live bait you must be aware of your wire and mono leader size/weight. If it is too heavy and rigid your live bait will barely swim and will die rather quickly. This is where a longer mono leader would be beneficial. I tend to use half a mullet (head section) or a full scad (or similar). I run one circle hook through the mouth to give me optimal hook exposure and to hold the bait securely enough to put up with current, tides and pickers. My set up for sharks varies depending on location but I’d run 100lb wire trace, 80lb mono leader and 20/30lb braid when fishing the canals for sharks up to 1.5m. Circle hook size is a 10/0. If chasing sharks in Nerang river for example, mostly under that 1.5m range (good eating size), I will use 6000 reel, 6-8kg rod, 20lb braid, 40lb mono leader, 80-100lb wire trace, 6-8/0 circle hook baited with a large matchbox size fillet of mullet or eel. When fishing off the beach (in video below) I will run 3m 200lb nylon coated wire, 30m 150lb mono trace, 80lb braid spooled on a TLD 30 2 speed and 24kg rod. My circle hook is a 18/0. Bait choice dart or tailor (or similar). Using inadequate gear can result in loss of tackle and shark. Thus meaning your shark is unfortunately swimming around with masses of line and wire hanging from its mouth.... hopefully this is quickly lossed, however as your wire and hook sizes increase it starts to become stainless steel which means basically permanently in the shark! Overall, to me, shark fishing is great fun, but in qld anything over 1.5m must be released and must remain in the water/wash whilst unhooking (ie you cannot drag it 20m up the beach). Hope some of that helps a bit. I’m sure many others have far more accurate and better info. Check out my little video of two good sized sharks we caught at Fraser Island. I know the video isn’t great quality and editing rather amateur but just to understand the size of shark and gear needed. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ka2c0aVtmLeWhNo.html Cheers legend. Keep up ya vids!!

I guess millions (maybe billions) of people’s lives are more similar than we realize, regardless of where we live or our political and religious ideologies - go to work to earn an honest living, come home and find something to help you unwind (like this video), and then do it again the next day and keep repeating until you have a day or two off so you can do something fun yourself.

As soon as the vid started i recognised my local lake, very surprised i wasn't in the background somewhere there! The trevs definitely fire when the gates open, but also just as the sun touches the water at sunrise they chase the bait right along that edge. You can catch eels in that lake too, whuch convert perfectly straight to shark bait. But always, always run a mono shock leader between the braid and trace!

I’m a believer of if you don’t catch anything with the livie chuck it back but I’m partially against using a nice sized fish as a live bait, I’d prefer to use it as a dead bait just as respect for the fish (but that is my opinion). At the end of the day you can do what you want to your catch especially if you’ve been out fishing for an hour or two just trying to catch some bait. Nice video mate heartbreaking to lose a big shark.

Others are best for trace setup, not that i haven't caught toothies but my target shark are gummies so i never use a wire trace nore do i run mono but has been suggested to me, i run 2 rod lengths of 40lb fluoro then my terminal setup is again 40lb fluoro 6/0 circle hook baited with 4 different baits as i run 4 rods but eel works really well as nothing else touches it👍 my rods are just a 10-15kg with a 560 slammer with 40lb braid nothing special but gummies don't get as big as other sharks either, i always have minimal drag set and let the fish rune for about 5-6 seconds the tighten the drag to set the hook then play it in with maybe 5kg of drag and up it as required but never to tight to get busted off yakside, basically i use this same system on all large species but kings i usually near lock the drag after setting the hook but back it off when it starts to tire so as not to loose them yakside😉 but hey damn good fun when your drag screams off.

Eels are the best bait for bull sharks in my opinion, also catch alot of other species on them as well, depends on the size of the bait

@@mylurebox yeah, the smaller eels tend to get picked up by stingrays and the occasional big flathead, mangrove jack and esturay cod

Freshwater eel is the best bullshark bait so if you can find one keep it and use big chunkes of it and with the same rig but with a balloon and chunkes about 15cm long and then you will be set 💯

Judging by that bite that was a big bull, you said the kids were swimming there, i wouldn't dream of letting my kids swim in any of our lakes or waterways.

Definitely have another crack. Meh about the poor ole trev but it would be good if you could find a alternative to using ballons in the waterways. Even a lump of styrene would be less damaging. And yes i used to use balloons in the past until i moved to Bribie and seen too many dead Turtles.

Try putting a leader then to swivel cause if the shark get rapped it will rub strait threw the braid so depending on the shark such as river bullies up to the 1m mark probably have a 30-60lb leader to stop it

Yeah me personally wouldnt have used the big trev mate but look you hooked up to a shark so it worked haha, but i also think its ok to use an eel as a livie because theres millions of them haha so what do i know.

Try using a 10-16 size circle hook and use single strand wire with a hat wire twist. If you don't know how to haywire twist you can just look it up. With single strand wire the shark can't bite through it. The bigger the size the lease likely it is to kink which is what happens with single strand wire

wait another few min or so have found that they pick it up and run the first bite but seem to stop like your one did and then start to consume when it goes still wait till it goes for a good run after the pause then hit it. Not all do it but a good chunk of em will.
