    For those who are shopping these against the 1723S towers I have tried both and let me tell you I could not tell the difference. These are big monitors and they play like towers. I mean exactly like towers. I ended up keeping the towers and returning the monitors because we couldn’t find stands my wife was happy with. Got them in matte white for our main living room and after a year of use they still look brand new. Highly recommend.

    I think you’re on point. I also started with these as a left and right and upgraded to the towers and there was very little difference except I didn’t like the look of the monitors on stands. However, they do make this known. The crossover on the bottom two woofers is super low so if using a crossover then they are basically the monitors in a bigger box. Only actual reason for the towers is if you wanna let them run full range, but I’m still happy bc the towers look awesome.

    Nice review, Randy. I picked up a pair of these in White Gloss 2 months ago and have really been enjoying them for 2.1 channel music listening. One of my favorite things about Arendal is the 60 day in home trial period along with the 10 year warranty, those type of terms I think helps buyers have less trepidation when making purchases.

    My mains are the Arendal 1723THX floor standing speakers, in satin black, on an Emotiva XPA-TWO...and I'm DONE! This is my endgame. Other speakers & amps might as well not exist to me. That's for the best, too, because I can't afford to "out-do" this. Preamp: Schiit Audio Freya+ w/ LISST quad Source 1: Eversolo DMP A6 Master Edition w/ Pioneer USB disc drive, 2TB Samsung 990 internal SSD & on-board linear PSU upgrade from Beatechnik Source 2: Fluance RT85 w/ Ortofon 2M Bronze cartridge/stylus & Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 phono preamp (also have a "no-name/Chi-Fi" DUAL 18v linear PSU for the RT85 & Tube Box S2) Power Amplifier: Emotiva XPA-TWO Subwoofers: Pair of Emotiva XS12 12" ported subwoofers I'm happy....but I'm going to buy one of the new Shanling CD players eventually. Probably the EC3...because I'm happy w/ the Eversolo's DAC & streaming...which negates the need to spend more $$$ for the Shanling ET3 over the EC3 model. I'd recommend Arendal Sounds to anyone/everyone. It's a bit pricey, and that's unfortunate...but I genuinely believe the product is worth every penny. The speakers are certainly worth saving for.

    how much of the cost is related to the build quality vs sound mechanics? If they sound great and have great build quality couldn't we find something cheaper that has less build quality and the same sound? I don't care about build quality, I don't care if I had two fridges sitting there.

    @@trauma50disaster1 I've not been in the hobby long enough, or heard enough fancy gear, to be giving folks recommendations. ...but no, you don't have to spend $4,000 on a pair of speakers to have something that sounds good. I came into this w/ the intent to put together a fancy system (fancy for me anyways) that will last the rest of my life. I did swap out the Schiit Freya+ and Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 for a Black Ice Audio Fusion360 & Fusion9 MKIII, tho. I prefer the look of the Black Ice Audio stuff...and once I saw the full-sized phono preamps I was sold.

    @@trauma50disaster1 I typed out a long reply about how I'm too new to HiFi to really give recommendations & go into vivid details..but youtube saw fit to auto-delete it for whatever reason. No swears. Nothing inflammatory. No misinformation. I don't get it. ...but anyways...I think a good chunk of the cost of the Arendal speakers is because of their build quality. They use high density fiberboard rather than MDF, and there's a TON of finishing work involved with sanding when you want to paint a woodworking project. Also, the crossovers in the Arendal 1723 series speakers are humongous. I don't think a person NEEDS to spend $4k on speakers to have something that sounds good, tho. There's a ton of awesome budget friendly gear...depending on what your budget is.

    Not everything is about you? Maybe some people can afford it and this is aimed at those people. They’re not even 2 grand, come on dude. You know how many people splash 2 grand on features for their car? There are people out there who fucking clearly have the means but either don’t have any kind of education in audio or just find reviews interesting. I’d rather CheapAudioMan peddle this to those people than Chinese junk amps that clip & distort well short of their stated output wattage.

Bit of a contradiction there, n'est-ce pas?

    @@CinemaDemocratica I did get the reference. The Dominators exist to rip off people who are in a lower income situation, want to splash cash they don’t have and don’t know any better. I doubt these have a 5x markup. I didn’t applaud the death of proper publications and dealers, in fact I think these channels have a lot to do with the death of really good information in HiFi in exchange for making the viewer “feel” like they’ve got it all figured out. I don’t really like CheapAudioMan because most cheap audio is Chinese junk or Schiit and he hypes it up. Which is why I find “this shouldn’t be that expensive” entirely the wrong criticism to level against this channel. I’d much rather he hype up products like this if that’s his thing.

Better than the Polk R700, B&W 702 S2, KEF R3 even when paired with my SVS SB 1000 Pros and other bookshelves and towers. I didn’t need a sub for music but once I heard one and then 2 subs I couldn’t go back. My opinion in my listening room. My speaker of the year. I've tried the 1723 flagship towers, but they were just to big and too much for my living room. But they did sound great. However I will definitely have arendals again in the future, and the truth is that going with the monitors and matching subs will be the same as the towers, or actually a step up, but easier to move around. I was manhandling the towers by myself when I got them, and yeah. they are a two-man job for sure, and the first time I played some metal with great sound on them I actually got scared as I knew what the song was building up to. It did deliver. Oh, and I have the Pioneer receiver too, but I feel a notch up would be to use Rotel instead, but not necessary as you say.

    Is a monitor just another term for speaker or do the terms mean different things?

  • @AndyBHome

    @AndyBHome

    7 ай бұрын

    It's a style of cabinet. The definition has changed a little since the early '70s when they were all wide, shallow rectangular speakers that typically sat on the floor. Now it means "not a tower, more like a bookshelf, but much larger." Monitor type speakers typically are made to sit on a low stand or almost on the floor but with something that acts as a wedge to tilt the front up at an angle toward the listening position. So monitors are basically bigger than bookshelves but smaller than towers, or at least not shaped like a tower.

  • @eddieruddock7014

    @eddieruddock7014

    6 ай бұрын

    @@AndyBHomeI thought the term monitor was used to mean a speaker than is used by a music professional (of some sort) so that they could literally MONITOR the audio? So rather than simply listening to appreciate the audio they are listening to examine and make alterations for example Because can't you get bookshelf monitors? Very small speakers that produce amazing sound quality for musical professionals?

  • @AndyBHome

    @AndyBHome

    6 ай бұрын

    @@eddieruddock7014 it's absolutely true. In pro audio the term monitor means any speaker used by anyone to monitor a signal. There are studio monitors for engineers, stage monitors for musicians, and even in-ear monitors for anyone who happens to need to pay attention to what's going through a system. That is a different use of the word for pro environments. And sometimes people will buy what they call pro monitors or studio monitors for use in home and casual listening. But in that context the term has yet another meaning which is usually "flat frequency response," or even "high detail," which is emphasis on the upper frequencies. It is also common for speakers that are described as monitors for home use to lack bass below a certain level. The theory is that mixing engineers don't need to pay close attention to bass frequencies because they are easier to capture in a recording. In home use this reduced or completely removed low bass can be desirable to eliminate disturbances to people in other rooms or dwellings. So we actually have numerous definitions for the term that depend on context. 1 - a cabinet style which is typically large, wide, shallow, and designed to sit on the floor 2 - a usage scenario in which a speaker is used by a professional to keep tabs on how things are going in a recording, broadcast, or public performance 3 - a frequency response character which is usually flat, but occasionally puts emphasis on high frequencies, mid-range, or both.

    @trauma50disaster1 I was driving the Amp to its limit causing distortion and high peaks. Both Klipsch and Emotiva confirmed it. I was advised to simply get a better amp with more headroom, the RP-8000FII's can handle more wattage as long as it's clear clean power. Emotiva BasX series is their "basic" Amp, the XPA is a much better Amp. I was assured upgrading the Amp would resolve the issue. I learned after the fact of doing some research, it's highly recommended to have an Amp at least 1 and a 1/2 more power that a speakers RMS is rated at. I should have known better, but the sale price got me lol. I'm going with the XPA-Gen3 3 channel Amp and power the main L, R and center leaving the other 6 to my Denon.
