This is my ultimate favourite thing…Preston analysing his own fan-fiction. It’s Prestonception!

“I miss her, uncle,” the boy wailed. “I miss her.” Oh...oh poor Sweetrobin.

This explanation managed to really change something about my perception of Sweetrobin. And not just in the fanfic but in the canon story as well. Yes, Sweetrobin is annoying and impetuous and not very likable to say the least. But he is just an 8-year old boy, who, in a short span of time lost his father, lost his mother and is generally surrounded by terrible people who just want to use him for their own ends, or worse, get rid of him entirely so they can inherit the Vale. I can see why Preston feels so much sympathy for little Robert Arryn and this chapter did an incredible job of giving us that pathos to sympathize with him. King Sweetrobin. I sure am looking forward to seeing where Preston is taking this one.

My favorite part is the Plot that Sansa *thinks* she’s uncovering. Like what, the dornish are conspiring to fix the game? The ending really got me, such a tender moment of Sweetrobin grieving.

Not going to lie, when Sweetrobin is reunited with his uncle I got a little weepy. This was my favorite one so far 💞

Modern Synthesist I know right!! I was like “who from Dorne would sweet robin know?” Then I was like “what old man from Dorne who is also his uncle would sweet robin know?.. Is there a part of his family tree I don’t know. Oh wait it’s the blackfish. Oh They’re not going to winterfell now they’re going to riverrun. Oh shit well the jig is up for littlefinger and Sansa because blackfish is def going to know who she is.” Literally my thought process back to back before I even heard them say they were going to the riverlands now lol

Just wanted to say that when I listen to you reading the chapter I wasn't aware it's no GRRM's. It was very very good. You and anyone that took part should be very proud!

Really stellar stuff this chapter. Sansa is my favorite pov and I'm glad you're finally moving forward with the Smart Sansa that's been promised since book 2 Keep up the good work!

This was an amazing chapter. What really excites me are the winged knights. Especially targon Halfwyld & the Sunderland Bros. SN: sweetrobbin crying and shouldering that sorrow was deep. This is such a better way to use the blackfish instead of having him die off screen lol thanks for what you do 🙏🏾

I would love to see a moment where someone in the Vale reminisces about Weymar Royce.

I thought Miranda revealing what she knew so matter of fact wasn’t really a GRRM thing to do but It was quite satisfying finding out instead having to wait for the next chapter.

This video makes all your theories make so much sense!!! You're such a detailed oriented person, it makes complete sense now how you notice even the smallest inconsistencies in the story

@@Cheesusful Many of his theories are kind of his ways of justifying potential author error. I also think he's changed his mind on some of his theories.

The chapter does a great job of echoing Arya trying to talk to Ned about what she heard hiding in the dragon skull.

Loving the content lately Preston, you're a machine. And with a new baby too!

I really loved this chapter that bit at the end with sweet Robin crying hit me right in the feels....

I know We’ve had our differences in the comment section Preston but I wanted to congratulate you on how well this project is going. It must take a lot of work, but I think your doing it really well, and you really have an ear for Martins voice. Is there a list of contributors anywhere? The people who wrote different versions? Ask it would be interesting in these discussion videos if you could recall some of the strangest ideas that alternate versions brought you.

GRRM hated fanfiction and then accidentally elevated fanfiction to a higher form of art by refusing to finish the books.

Loved it but I agree with the people who say that it should have been 2 chapters. Especially after you talked about all the stuff that was cut. Also the Hand's tourney is two chapters so having this be 2 chapters would be consistent with AGOT pacing.

Does hitting the opponent's horse count? Another Arya/Sansa parallel, since the scene with the maesters resembles Arys's incomprehension when she encounters Illyrio and Varys plotting in GoT.

46:18 I love that we again parallel Arya. Two plotters met in secret, whispering about a LF poisoning plot, she can’t follow what’s being said, and she can’t figure out how to relate it to her father.

Was a fantastic chapter..i loved it all...but the Blackfish return n Sweetrobin was the best by far ....ty for doing this...

Hey Preston, So far, I’ve really liked your chapters. The one thing that concerns me is that you’re just a little too quick to spill all of your theories. Remember that you’ve got 150 chapters to set things like the Frey civil war up. You don’t have to spill them all out right away. George is really subtle. You tend not to think about it because you’re so into it, but most people won’t have even noticed. It would be better to put it out drop by drop instead of just spilling it all out there. This is intended as a minor constructive criticism. I think that your chapters have been very good, and I always look forward to them.

Did you figure out the Frey civil war bits from the read through, or from the explanation? There's lots of hints, but many that aren't obvious until some future chapter happens

Preston has a video about the Frey Civil war a while back (2 years?). It’s pretty impressive how much George puts in there quietly, and it’s pretty impressive how much Preston scrapes out. Considering the work, I am TOTALLY sympathetic to wanting to put it in his chapters. I’d just like to have it done a little more deliberately. If I give George an arbitrary score of 10/10, I think Sweet Robin’s chapters are a solid 8/10. Very happy over all, and looking forward to more. Jeeze, Preston, why can’t you write faster? When is Winds of Winter going to be done anyway? :P

I don’t really agree. GRRM’s work has been very character- and world driven. The plot takes its turns and he lets it, which helps it all feel natural. However, he’s been setting up threads for 5 books, and I believe a more plot driven approach is needed to allow these threads to wrap up in the space of 2 books. Like someone else commented: GRRM refuses to up the pace, but it has to be done. Of course, there is a balance to be found. But so far, I love how much is happening in these chapters.

I think you’re doing a really good job with these chapters. The crowdsourcing is actually having a cool effect I think where so many ideas are thought up that once they all get condensed, the final chapter is just this diamond of ideas paying tribute to so many themes and characters. The only issue I had really was Daenerys’ conquering of the Dothraki happening in her first chapter. Feels like she was being set up for a longer arc with the Dothraki, but I do think that issue has more to do with George being so far behind on Dani’s plot line compared to everyone else. She needs to move the fuck along lol. This one was amazing though, I think you really grasped the pageantry/irony tension that George loves to write.

If I have to pause watching this for more earthquake I'll...complain about it. Hoping you and yours all made it through. It was a 5 here in in KH and my first big earthquake.

I really like having the Black Fish as the mystery knight. I totally didnt expect it and loved how Sweet Robin just breaks down when he sees him. I could feel the emotion

I wish that I could trick myself into believing these are actual winds of winter chapters. I have a hard time fully enjoying fanfiction because it doesn't feel "real". Still, this is excellent fanfiction, and I would have no problem with Preston officially taking over the series.

I had always assumed they stopped to change lance and reset. Probably because the joust often appear long and boring to certain characters, so that would be in line with reset times interrupting the action even more. HotD surprised me with the fly by lance change.

we should defo include Tyrion having taught Sansa how to play cyvasse could be some nice parallels as Tyrion does indeed play thee game several times in the story perhaps a light retcon or could say George didn't mention their downtime as a married couple I mean they certainly weren't sharing a marriage bed perhaps he taught her some moves on the cyvasse table

These are nearly my favourite videos in these series. Not better than the chapters though. Two things: I was joking that you were making Sweetrobin king just because you're a stan. Obviously not. And little tiny pronunciation thing (I know these suck and who fricking cares anyway, but it's like 3 or 4 times I've heard it now): one couches a lance (as in sofa) not coaches a lance (as in bus)

1:18:00 Makes me wonder how the Blackfish will reaction when he figures out who Alayne is because he did seem to have a genuine soft spot for Cat and I’m sure Sansa would remind him of her. But I guess the whole point is that revenge and an obsession with getting back what you lost/what’s owed to you overshadows everything else. Throughout most of the story Sansa has only been seen as a tool by people around him (something even she is keenly aware of) just as the Blackfish and everyone else sees Sweet Robin now so would it be more fitting for Brynden to think of her the same way or if he did have some sentimentally when it came to her? Even being a mirror and foil to Little Finger by also seeing her as a replacement for Cat to some extent. (And yes, you’d think if he just saw Sweet Robin just as a tool he’d see Sansa the same way but to be fair his relationship with Lysa did seem to be a bit more complicated)

I'm curious about what people think the overlap will be between the fan project and the actual Winds of Winter. Like, do people think that every single POV plotline will be completely different, some of them will be similar, or all of them will follow more or less the same plot?

Frankly I do not expect to see GRRMs TWOW anymore. And even if he writes it, it will hardly be better than this. All my hopes for the ASOIAF story are now solely with Preston and his contributors.

I think it's likely more a fault of the format, with one chapter every couple of months: every chapter has to be important/have a twist to keep the viewers interested.

@@Waddehaddeduddedaa yes, but it's a big project, likely lasting years, which will require a lot of work and its very easy for such projects to lose momentum if enough people don't get invested (in terms of interest, not financially) especially if the creators aren't making money (beyond the few pennies Preston makes here and there from the views) For example: I don't know if you're aware of the various "abridged series" of different anime but they're KZread projects that have spanned many years and though the creators often start with the intention of parodying entire shows from start to finish, most of them lost momentum and were abandoned, some within a few months, some after a couple of years. AFAIK the only one likely to reach the actual end of the show its based on is yugioh the abridged series and that could easily take another 5 years.

Good job dude, but we need like a chapter per week. At this pace it's going to take several years, and GRRM will release his book before this is completed.

Nice to see this, though I do think you can overestimate your subtlety? You said “I think most people” got the Arya death list parallel, when people not in the project that I talked to were immediately annoyed by how over the top the metaphor is. That said, another excellent chapter, I look forward to the emissary!

Probably too late but where would this fit in the timeline exactly? If they've heard of Kevan's death, would the winter snows have reached The Vale yet? And how has Sansa not yet learned about fake Arya?

One compliant I have about this very excellent chapter: Why were the knights crowning Sweet-robin ? When Robb was crowned , it was stupid , but there were good points , Robb proved himself in a battlefield , was respected in both the north and the riverlands . Little Robbert is little sickly boy

Sweetrobin doesn't need to be respected as a soldier or even as a great person. He's an orphan child, which is something to sympathise with. The Blackfish is already on his side no matter what, and he's respected as a soldier.

Wouldn't it be funny if Corbray leads a charge through a breach and about to win all the glory he needs to never worry about gold again but then he trips up and falls in the mud and the three Sunderlands are the once who are first through the breach and win the day and all the glory? Songs will be written and sung about the three legendary heroes even if Corbray was the man who alone made it possible to charge through the breach in the first place.

One question.. Preston why make Sweet Robin King? Just to have Alayne exposed by Miranda to be Sansa Stark?

Why is Ser Byron the Beatiful such a great knight, even better than Lyn Corbray? And if he is that good why is he not famous at all? Is there a specific reason for this Preston, or did you just make him an elite jouster randomly?

The tourney felt like it happened too quickly, though overall it was fun to listen to.

Preston is just going to write A Dream Of Spring for GRRM

I love it, but for one thing: did Miranda not know that Sansa is SweetRobin's cousin? If she outs her as Alayne, does she really expect that SweetRobin will exile Lf and Sansa, the two people he loves most? He will make her fly for that.
