This one was actually done really well. I think the way you described Farring was actually so good. It’s terrifying, because he’s one of the few people who truly understands the gravity of the war in the north, and the threat they pose, and yet hearing him talk about it honestly, he sounds completely insane. Which is just scary from the perspective of the reader, because we know what Adrianne doesn’t.

Historically, buckets of extremely hot sand would be dumped on attackers by the defenders of a castle. You can't drink sand, it's not valuable, it retains it's heat pretty well, and it gets everywhere.

Yes, although it's worth noting that it's impossible to say how common such things were. It all comes down to the availability of stuff to throw at attackers. There's accounts of hot oil being used in the siege of Orleans in 1428-1429. Whether it was hot or boiling is debatable, as well as what sort of oil it was. Possibly, it was just hot cooking oil. As for hot sand, the main example that comes to mind is from the campaigns of Alexander the Great. I believe the defenders of Tyre used hot sand boiled in bronze pots and threw them at the Macedonians. Or shot them from various engines. So there are certainly some examples. In the Irish Annals, there's an account of the siege of Chester in 918 where the Saxon defenders used rocks, boiling/hot water and ale on the Norse attackers, as well as throwing some behives at them. The norse used all sorts of covers and hides to counter this. The account lists various back and forth measures from both sides. Of course, all of these methods are likely spur of the moment based on what was at hand. But in story terms, you could easily use any of them. I doubt that the availability of beehives or hot sand for the defence castles or towns was a priority for the inhabitants, though. But it's a plausible method in addition to all the others available.

I really liked the chapter. Only part i'm a bit iffy about wasn't the climbing, but the dots you had to connect - either you remembered Farring slept just below, and then wondered why he just went to bed if he had to climb the stairs anyway, or you don't, and the jump seems too magical/mysterious :) That said, I love the Arianne chapters. This chapter was a really fun read. I appreciate that even though you don’t have to, and no one would blame you if you didn’t, you justify all your decisions for the direction you’re taking the story. I’m very excited for the next chapter. I’m hoping the coming battle at storms end has an interesting conclusion. It seems what George does to stress that fighting is not to be glorified is make it so that even if the “heros” win they still lose something in the fighting. So in the spirit of that I think it would be awesome for Jon Con to win decisively and for Aegon to show that he is very skilled in the art of war only for a arrow to strike him from the castle right as the battle is ending and he dies in Jon Cons arms (maybe even after Jon has cut his hand off in hopes of not giving greyscale to Aegon and of course the bells would have to be ringing lol). I think it would be very interesting to see what all the characters do when they’ve technically won but lost the man that was holding them all together and in a way it would mirror the situation at the wall a little. I think it would help keep the story moving as well as make the story a little more manageable (trying to focus on 4-5 plots at the same time can be a bit daunting I imagine) as well as start bringing characters together. Also you could use the chapter to let us find out what really happened to Loras Tyrell. Did he die, did he really suffer wounds trying to take storms end or was it just a baseless rumor. He could even be in the fighting if he’s not really hurt and get take prisoner or even switch sides to Aegon afterwards.

I think House Cobb would be like House Cod. All men do despise them. That is, Cobb’s sigal would be Straw and Shit. Or mud, if you’d rather.

Casual Lord of the Light followers in Westeros - that seems unlikely. I don't see good reasons to be R'hllor followers if you're not a fanatic. You'd be better off as a casual Faith of the Seven/Old Gods guy.

I mean there are temples to the lord of light across the country. If you are in or near a major city with a lot of trade it makes plenty of sense

I'm not sure I understood this correctly: it was JonCon's plan to pretend like the GC had captured the Grassy Vale in the hopes that Elwood Meadows would be in charge of Storm's End and would surrender to the GC so that they wouldn't hurt his relatives? Because clearly the fake letter was discovered almost immediately by the Storm's End Maester. It seems like even if Elwood had been in charge this plan wouldn't have gone very far.

You could say that the Halfmaester was confident he could make a forgery good enough to fool even another maester so JonCon choose to trust him.

I don't understand how the hell the fake Maester could kill Blackberry, Haystack and the Sweetcorn knights so quickly. And so easily subdue the fourth one with a Hollywood trope knockout strike. That just reads as an underdescribed, implausible fight. The line "The sweetcorn knight fell into a fountain of blood." does not even mention a weapon. A fake maester should at least use hidden blades and/or powders to have a shot against four better amrored, and better armed opponents.

They were literally looking out of the window, and he's a trained knight too. He got the jump on them. You ever see a boxing match being distracted for a second is more than enough time. Especially when he has a weapon out already

It kinda reminded me of when Syrio Forel took down 5 Lannister guards with a wooden sword when Meryn Trant came to arrest Arya? One very skilled warrior, using everything he had at his disposal, against 5 soldiers. Plus, Denys is doing a sneak-attack, and his opponents are likely poor soldiers (green boys and old men are usually the ones left to hold a castle during a war, and sieges tend to involve malnutrition, so they're probably not great soldiers overall)

Good. He's stopped pronouncing it 'Ar - ee - ar - nuh' Though I would have pronounced it to rhyme with Marianne, like Maid Marianne etc.
