As an Indian, watching other people from my country say that about you really makes me mad, like they don't realize that we're also Asian. They definitely failed geography class if they didn't know the bare minimum. Ok so they kept their camera off unmuted their mic and started saying stuff like not safe for school stuff and bad words. They had a different voice from our Blake. And spammed the zoom chat with like death threats and inappropriate links to bad websites and pictures. They thought they could hide behind their screen but soon the police got involved cause it was to much. The tracked down the IP address or something like that. And they found out where the person lived and stuff. Idk if it was some creepy rando or someone in our class. We didn’t really get closure on who it was. The whole exercise was just 🤢🤮🤮😭

But I did give an example of the same treatment meted out to my own people. @@Haru-nee I have a friend from pakistan I met on Instagram and she told me that kids aren't allowed to use interent, or basically nobody cares enough to give interent or mobiles phones to kids, they are told to play and study or do others chores. So there's no chance that they are Pakistani, but don't come at me, that's just what I think Edit : I didn't meant to say that it's bad thing that they don't give phones (or "don't care enough to give phone"), I only meant that they aren't into mobile phones and it's a very good thing, kids shouldn't be using interent lol (interent is a bad place XD) they'll learn to use interent in a better way only when they get a little mature

I had an interesting experience with my family when we went to Puerto Rico just this last September for a short vacation. While we were there, there were two separate instances of--I think they were both waiters/waitresses, one time in a Korean restaurant--assuming our ethnicity and asking if we were Chinese. We'd smile and let them know that we're not, and once clarified that we were, in fact, Korean. I imagined their initial assumption is likely because asian countries besides China are either at a peripheral of, or simply not present in their minds when making their comment, and this video and the discussions below reminded me of that. That leads me to wonder if some portion of encounters considered racist might be a product of simple ignorance by one of the other's culture; the offending party doesn't mean offense, they are trying to relate and have a conversation, but they need to be shown that they might not be taking the right approach. If I were to sit down with a someone and ask them if they, "are Mexican," then they'd be justified in taking offense and responding curtly that they are from Micronesia. However, if I were to, "inquire about their ethnicity", simply by using a broader statement, they'd answer right away, and we can get to talking about the good stuff, like their food and what social norms they have in their culture, what kind of music they have, and their general interests, because this person is a person, not their culture. I like... Sitting down with someone and asking about their interests, their lives. Oftentimes, ethnicity is never even brought up while she tells about growing up in the rink and competing in the nationals, or when he's telling me that he's pushing through the last year of his college education, or the nice lady I saw at Ross that one time is informing my cuzzie and I that her puppy was not a husky, that he's half malamute and half something else... And I informed her that I love him and he is the cutest thing I've seen all day. Be respectful y'all, that's all this tangential 10PM messay boils down to.

I remember I was on Omegle and I was talking to a 47 year-old man and he was very nice! He wasn’t asking to see any body parts yk but he was talking to me about Australia and how fascinating the animals were it was just so wholesome. He’s not like other old men that I’ve seen flash me 😭

I love how all the girls there were just genuinely loving and complimenting here and the boys were just idiots except for a few who did the bare minimum
