Going Off Grid Ep 18 - Shed/ Cabin Bathroom build

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

As this series progresses, so too does our little cabin build. Judy and I are getting very close to finishing the cabin and we cannot wait to get in!
We are not experts, we are DIY enthusiasts and will have a crack at most jobs. Keeping that in mind the Bathroom is not perfect but will do us just fine.
We hope you enjoy the video and we would love to see you in the comments.
Regards
Scott and Judy

    So nice to see an Australian build. I have seen so many American ones. Not sure how many of theirs gets past the fire code. Especially that spray foam they use for insulation. Bathroom looks fantastic. And a lovely surprise cameo by Nala. 🥰 She was a beautiful girl.

    I used to manufacture the spray foam stuff and there's actually a ton of fireproofing chemicals within. The foam will still melt when exposed to intense heat a flame, but ideally it doesn't go up in flames itself and for the most part doesn't. Cool stuff honestly.

    Beautiful bathroom. Order of operation when installing Sheetrock… ceiling, top half of walls, bottom half of walls. Top half of walls pushed up to help mitigate any ceiling edge drop or sag and also allows a small gap when installing the bottom half allowing a gap at the bottom to keep it off the floor in case there is ever any plumbing leaks and the walls will not wick up the water. There is an inexpensive tool that is a wedge that you step on to lift the bottom wall Sheetrock tight against the top wall Sheetrock and off the floor.

  • @ScottTurnerformeindustrious

    That is a fantastic work of art you did for the bathroom. Judy is either a very slow learner of doing dry-wall screws, or a smart cookie in getting out of doing it. 😆 From what I know , you did every step of the shower correct. Tiling is a thankless task.... I've done all 3 of our bathrooms in the last 3 years (2 en-suites and 1 family), and all I can say is that it gets easier each time. Also, bigger tiles are much easier (400x400mm or bigger), and there's some cool little spinner-locks that both space and level large tiles too.

    G'day Scott and Jude. For a bloke who reckons he's a bit of a roughy, mate you could build anything for me anytime. I was a bit disappointed though when you were doing your concrete. I really thought you might have had the daygo hanky on. You they came and they concreted. I got a few daygo mates in the trade, there all great blokes and good mates and always poking at each other. The bathroom is a master piece mate. Another top job.

    I noticed the way you deburred your copper pipe cuts. The building I work in just had to replaced most of its copper piping (7 floors x 2 wings so multi multi million building!) because the plumbers DID NOT deburr their copper pipe cuts. The burred cuts spent the last 15 years agitating the water and wearing out the copper pipes causing many many floors of flooding. Holy Moly, lots of money and work!

  • @ScottTurnerformeindustrious

    @ScottTurnerformeindustrious

    Wow! The little things make a difference I guess. That sounds like a big stuff up, but still it's surprising to hear the pipes became so damaged. I have heard plumbers talk about copper getting pin holes after not many years. In a modern house I guess you would have to tear apart the walls $$, With this place I'll just lift off the wall sheets outside.
