Im in my 30s and felt like a kid playing with my Godzilla toys again. The smile on my face and the audible reactions i was having watching this big dumb silly movie. And you know what, thats what it was all about.

As someone who's been watching Godzilla movies for over 40+ years, I can vouch for this! 👍 🦖❌️🦍💥

Ill tell this every time. Took my dad to see it Thursday. Hes older so he normally he falls asleep during movies. He absolutely loved it and stayed awake full time :)

Adam Wingard posted over the weekend that if he gets the green light for a 3rd movie then it will be more of a Godzilla focused movie on his backstory like what this movie was for Kong. Also the rumor on the internet is legendary has already begun negotiations with Wingard for the third flick after the success of this one.

I hope they can negotiate with Toho on some legacy villains 👋🤓 like Mecha King Gidorah and Gigan and new G-man allies like Jet Jaguar 🤖😍 I really like the new monsters Legacy created with the Mutos and Behemoth being my favorites.

Not surprised at all. I live in Asia. Saw it twice. Both times theater was packed. Tons of kids, but also adults. Huge smiles on everybody’s faces, everybody hooting and hollering. And when the girl told Rebecca Hall that she was her home at the end, the man sitting behind me started to cry. 80 million? Not surprised. People laughed and cried. A true movie going experience.

Kong knocking out Super Saiyan Rose’ Godzilla with an electric gauntlet/arm brace made me smile like a 10 year old at Disneyland.

I'll have to see it to believe it..The last 2 movies The Big G has just had a supporting role. This movie was definitely Kong & Friends

If you look at worldwide, GxK made close to $200 million and is the biggest opening of the year to date.

The thing people haven’t realized is 1954 Gojira, Shin Godzilla, and Godzilla minus 1 are timeless classics of a true monster but the Showa era Godzilla kept the lights on and paid the bills for Toho studios along with maintaining the fanbase.

This movie doing this well has made my entire year. I’m so happy people were able to just strap in and have fun. So tired of every movie being torn apart for every little thing. Let movies be weird and fun, not everything needs to be serious or thought provoking. Give me the cheese, give me the over the top destruction, give me the deus ex machinas etc. I just want to have fun watching a movie like this. This movie made me feel how peak Marvel did.

At the AMC in Century City, my audience applauded at the end.

John trying too hard to defend critics low score of this movie. It's entertaining and the audience loves it. It's the only thing that matters, hence the box office.

The critics say they enjoyed it but the movie wasn't good.Didnt understand ,after all isn't that what you pay your money for, to have a good time? Loved how the audience showed who rules the box office.Critics suck

It seems that the Monsterverse has found its "Russo Brothers" with Adam Wingard. I bet he'll be directing the 7th movie

I dragged two people with me to go see it on Saturday. There was definitely pushback, but I convinced them that we had nothing else to do for the day so we may as well catch the 3pm showing, and we did. 😁 There was a crap load of kids and families in there, and the showing before ours was sold out. Yes, I’d say the movie did unexpected business.

Did Godzilla dirty? He was fucking OP in this lmao obviously he had to take a back seat he would've fucking ended the movie before it started

This movie deserved the $. And to Rob’s point, I’d say I hear him but I do think the movie did a good job making it clear to everyone that even though we’re following Kong, he’s Batman Godzilla is Superman. No mistaking the fact that he’s the big gun. Oh and Mothra as Wonder Woman. Damnit this movie was so stupidly good

I had so much fun watching this movie! Kong with the infinity gauntlet, and Godzilla pulling a Goku powering up through most of the movie. And I'm adding "I understand the Kaiju languages" to my resume. 😂 Yes please.....I need more of this insanity! When's the next one?

This comment made me think of an edit of the movie where every time we see Godzilla before his fight with Kong in Egypt, instead of normal Godzilla noises, it’s just Goku’s power up yell.

I dont know what John is talking about in GvK regarding Godzilla was elevated over Kong. That movie clearly had more of a focus on Kong and his story arc. Godzilla was barely shown unless kong was on screen with him. With that being said its so much fun seeing Kong and Godzilla together, but I hope they start getting back to solo films. Godzilla deserves to be front and center again. Based on how it ended, I think they will do this. I think we will be looking at “The adventures of Kong, Suko, and Shimo” moving forward. Which I am here for it!

The ending fight disappoint and lackluster

It was a great movie with a million subtle touches that escaped many viewers and critics. I loved it, and it’s a great and colorful addition to this legendary franchise. Fantastic stuff.

I found the tooth thing very relatable… I had literally just come from getting a root canal and no joke they said I might end up needing a implant just like Kong. 😂 The tooth made him even more relatable and sympathetic. As long as you expect big dumb kaiju fun and enjoy it as such, you’ll love it. Just like I did.

Hey John, Daughter and I went to go check out Godzilla x kong new empire down here San Diego California mission valley AMC. Unfortunately 20 minutes before the movie was over the entire theater was evacuated by police due to a vehicle being on fire underneath the theater. We were told that we were going to get refunded our money online in about 2 days. As for what we were able to watch was pretty good bummer we didn't get to finish it.

Loved it ! Loved it ! … seen it twice !! Ready for a third .. hopefully in IMAX

I'm not surprised. It delivers on what it was supposed to deliver on and probably the best one so far at doing it. It was extremely fun and entertaining, it wasn't overly complicated, the humans took a major backseat, and it was action-packed! In an ideal world, would it have technically been better if it was written smarter? Sure. But then again, am I coming to see a really intelligently written movie? No. I haven't seen Godzilla Minus One yet, but from what I'm hearing, that movie already delivers on that side of things so this movie doesn't need to.

The movie was fun and enjoyable and should not be compared to minus one or shin Godzilla movies but worth watching a few times. But the director did say if there’s a 3rd that Godzilla will be the main character and have his own story like Kong has in pt 2

although the movie wasn’t 100% for me seeing general audience finally welcome kaiju film is a win-win situation

Loved it. Only problem I had was it ignored the time passing slower in hollow earth that Monarch established. Made it seem like real time for both realms

Yes he did and I am expecting space Godzilla or destroya. There is speculation that in king of the monsters, the oxygen deprivation nuke, actually created destroya, and obviously space Godzilla would be Godzilla’s greatest adversary, and I could see Godzilla getting put on his ass by space Godzilla, and venturing into hollow earth to seek help from Kong and his new army of Kong and new pet dog shimo to make for an epic showing, centered around Godzilla, but still bringing in Kong to bring all of the fans just like these last two movies have done. Let’s go baby give me more.

I'm glad it did well. I thought the ending fight was kind lackluster but I still want to see more. It's a nostalgia overload seeing big monsters fighting.

Godzilla is having somewhat of the same movie in the next film. Mostly about Godzilla and his family but he’s already had a lot of movies so giving Kong more screen time not mad at that he deserves to

I disapprove of the direction Wingard and company are taking the franchise however I can appreciate this entry for being a box office success. And hell if the kids like it that holds a lot of weight.

Best movie I have seen in a long time. So much fun

GxK was an obvious nod to the Showa era, and was made for kids, families, and adults who are kids at heart. It was never meant to be a serious Oscar-worthy contender. FFS. Kaiju movies are about giant f*cking monsters.

Good to see the Reiwa Era of Godzilla shining more than ever. Got tired of hearing casual fans complain about how Minus 0ne gets the character right and "doesn't make him a hero". Its a good time to be a fan of the property in general. There's no need to sh!t on one over the other especially when you clearly don't know the history of Godzilla.

So much merch money. This is actually the best time the monsterverse could've happened. After 50 years (2004) godzilla was done. Final wars was the last, then 2014 was a big hit, a huge homage to classic but the reintroduction to modern audiences. Then Japan said hold my beer, remember what we can do, shin and minus one we're amazing call backs to the og godzilla. Plus we got 2 animated projects. Thank you, monsterverse. Now we are just getting the kids hooked on godzilla again. So 30 years (100th anniversary) those kids now adults want to see the next big godzilla movie with there kids. Definitely helping continue this oooooooooooold franchise.

I am not surprised about this at all. Godzilla and Kong have been household favorites for years. Kids and adults loved the moster movies back in the day and to see them now is even more of a treat. I loved the film and the audience that was there when I went to see it did too. Great film.

I’m so happy this is performing as well as it is. For a long time the series couldn’t find its tone. Now with this new director the films are leaning into their ridiculousness and it’s awesome! Give people what they want and they’ll show up. The numbers for this film prove that all we needed was more focus on the monsters. Apparently this film also has the lowest budget in the monster-verse so what exactly went wrong before because it sure wasn’t a lack of budget.

This absolutely shows how relevant wrestling is now and how people are hyped about this year wrestlemania most people would have went to this movie to see a preview of night 1 main event

I am so happy that the monster-verse is doing well. It is an awesome universe of movies.

Some times in a movie, you just need to shut your brain down and any preconceptions you have and just sit back and absorb all the dumbness at hand and this movie did not disappoint in appealing to my primal nature. My only gripe is that I felt the final battle wasn't nearly long enough. Needed to see more ape-on-ape/lizard-on-lizard violence Regardless, it was a boatload of fun!!!!

You’re overplaying the “dumbness” of this movie for some reason. Because heroes in spandex is so much more serious? It’s all fantastical entertainment.

It's different because the heroes and spandex are still human beings with complex and emotional feelings. Still grounded to a believable and well written story. They are still held to a higher standard than two animals with no dialogues and no Oscar winning acting. And that's the big difference.

Godzilla does get the short end of the stick in both of the Kong and Godzilla. While his names first it clear that Kong is the lead on this films. I suspect because Kong is American icon and Godzilla is not.

Man my daughter loved this film. Last time I seen her this excited when the monsters united in the third act was back in avengers: endgame when all her favorite heroes showed up

I don’t know if you’ll see this but love the show. I’m stationed in Texas and my wife and and our niece live in the middle of the country. So the nearest movie theater is a Cinamark with the 6 theaters. Like with old seats we had no tickets at all and we got there 20 mins early and I shit you not about 80 more people showed ups. Families and we we all having a blast🎉. Love the show!!!!

I don’t get to the movies very often so I haven’t seen any of the March movies. 😢 But it is so great to see Hollywood come roaring back. Regardless of our politics we all go to the theatre hoping to fall in love with a movie. And I’m thrilled to see that happening again.

The fact that anyone can hitch a ride to hollow earth is stupid but man it rocks with its Kaiju fights....the best part is I was sick n still bringing my family to watch it 😂

Of course it did well. I had no doubt cuz we just like watching big ass monsters fight!
