Help Teresa win this Mustang for her birthday 6/2023 - • She made a BET! 3 MILL...
Welcome to Hartwick Performance!
Here it is... the 7.3L vs 5.0L. We took both Mustangs to the dyno and drag strip to see which engine would out perform the other! Don't give me too much crap about my driving at the drag strip hahaha
Thank you to everyone for following and giving us your support on this build! It has been a huge accomplishment for us! If you are new to the channel, make sure to follow us to see these stangs again in the future!
More thanks below:
Thank you to Rob Shoemaker at Palm Beach Dyno for all the help with tuning the Godzilla and making this thing drive!
Thank you to F.A.S.T automotive in Pensacola, FL for helping us with the dyno!

You get some nice worked heads in that thing and a big cam and badass intake it wouldn't have trouble topping 600 to the tires all motor on stock bottom end in my opinion. I mean it's a 7.3 liter man there is a lot of potential there. Great to see that you've got this thing all buttoned up and running. I knew that thing was going to be a torque monster. This Godzilla engine reminds me of the old 427 side oilers in a lot of different ways. In an AC Cobra it feels like someone hit you from behind when you're rolling and then hit the throttle. It will break traction in any gear. That thing's nasty, and you've got basically the same thing here with a few more cubes and way better reliability. You get this thing breathing a little better, it's gonna make the NA Coyote builds look silly.

@@sategllib2191 Yeah, I got carried away a little, but I do think for drag racers this thing will be amazing. I've seen a lot of side-by-side dollar-for-dollar builds where the LS and Coyote are built up and the LS seems to always come out on top due to simplicity and inexpensive parts availability. Not that you can't make the power with a 5.0, it's just so expensive to do. This 7.3 is like a big block LS (same basic formula, but bigger displacement), so it should be a monster if the aftermarket picks it up and runs with it, which I think they might given the potential.

A 7.3 Godzilla engine in a Mustang is fucking sick! Replacing the Coyote with it eliminates the one bad thing about a stock 5.0: low end torque. Only problem with the Godzilla is you need an intake to help the top end. Once you get that, you will send full bolt on Coyotes to gapplebee's easily. About the gear lockout at high RPMs, you need a stainless steel clutch line and... A NEW CLUTCH! The number 1 things that ruin these MT-82s is the stock clutch. They absolutely suck at handling high RPMs and will lockout at anything over 6000 RPM, ESPECIALLY on a quick shift. Which sucks because Coyote's are all HP, all their power is high RPM, it feasts all the way up to 7500 RPMs (with boss or 18+ intake). I can shift my dad's '14 5.0 with the MT-82 (with stock clutch) almost flawlessly, but from time to time it will lockout of 3rd and the clutch pedal will stick to the floor after a quick shift into 2nd. Sometimes it even refuses to go into 4th (very rarely). But yes, those stock clutches suck! Change it out! And do a flywheel, clutch, clutch pressure plate, hydraulic throwout bearing and stainless steel clutch line all at once. You will never have a problem with high RPM lockout again (other then user error lol). Have fun with the build though! I can't wait to see how far this 7.3 comes! Subscribed.

Definitely need a short runner intake manifold and a big cam to help the top end power of the 7.3. Torque really falls off a cliff around 4500 rpm. With a curve like that, I can imagine you probably should be shifting around 5600-5800. Also since the 7.3 makes so much more torque you might consider switching to a 2.73 rear-end gear to help with traction.

  • @midnight347

The 10R works well with the Coyote because it's tight gearing keeps it in the meat of the power band, on a 7.3 you'd need heads, cam, and a better manifold to take advantage of the 10R.
