    I have had this guitar for about 10 years. I put 9’s on it and set it up for lead. Absolutely love it! I hate to say this but I normally do not plug it in. I just use it in the office so I don’t need to get blown away nor need all the wires, etc... unplugged it does sound a little plastic but is great for what I do. I need to plug it in once in a while, I forgot how good it sounds. Thanks for this post!

    At 4.20 you suggest the guitar is possibly used because its isn't wrapped. Whilst its clear the guitar was not set up by the store these guitars are never "wrapped" in any way. The guitar would be in the Godin gigbag. The bag would be in branded Godin box. Setups vary generally due to humidity variations between country.

    Richards Guitars I learned. I exchanged this because it was slightly damaged and the replacement came the same way. I called Godin too for some tech support and they said they don’t wrap. I’ve bought other guitars in the past that came wrapped inside a gig bag too so Godin was new to me. Thanks dude 👍🏻

    Could it be that the acoustic integrity is also compromised here because you were plugged in an amp specific for electric guitar? I wonder if how the acoustic sounds if it's direct to the board? Or running through an acoustic amp?

    Carl Flores for sure. It sounds way better through a PA. It’s definitely not a hot signal comparing to other acoustic electrics. I haven’t tried this yet...I have one..but haven’t gotten around to it haha...but I’ve read that running it through an LR Baggs DI or any active DI solves that.

    Carl Flores only weird thing is the pickups don’t match each other with the stock strings. DR zebras or GHS white bronze are the best

    The A6 Ultra is leaps and bounds better sounding than a Taylor T5. I've owned several T5's. and the Ultra and acoustically the A6. Also owned a PRS P22 for a while which has the LR Baggs piezo built in. The A6 beat the PRS as well at one third the cost. Great guitar. The only issue I had was the humbucker was somewhat muddy to me. That could be replaced easily with your favorite brand.

    I've bought 3 different electric guitars since the P22. A Reverend Pete Anderson semi hollow, a G&L ASAT Classic Tele style, and then traded the G&L for a Moniker semi hollow. I still have the Moniker. If you've never heard about them take some time to Google the company. Really nice looking and playing guitar built in Texas.

    If you want good acoustic sound and tones run it direct to PA or get an acoustic amp. You will immediately appreciate the acoustic then. Godin do the acoustic solutions 150 amp its killer!

    Just curious what strings you have tried and what you found gives the best acoustic sound? Planning to try a few different sets, but would appreciate any input. I know you mentioned the DR Zebras.

  • @icomedia1

    Welesly77 hey. I mostly use the Zebras but I have used and like the GHS white bronze. The GHS feel more like acoustic strings whereas the DR feel a little heavier and somewhat darker. All preference of course but I like both if I want to mix it up a bit. They come with D’ADDARIO Jazz something or other strings with a wound 3rd which I didn’t like because the pickup and undersaddle had way too much of a volume difference. The DR and GHS sound pretty much even.

  • @Welesly77

    @Welesly77

    Thanks again. I'll have to give the GHS a try. I tried a set of Elixir 80/20 nanoweb acoustic lights 12-53 on mine. Sounds great through the transducer. Humbucker does respond, but tone seems to suffer with these strings. String tension seems noticeably tight for some reason on the A6 when compared to my Breedlove with identical strings (same scale length so not sure why). Was thinking of trying a set of lighter 10/47 Elixir on the A6, but thinking they might be too light.

    Yeah I kept winding and winding and winding to get it tuned after the restring. Thought maybe it was just high ratio tuners, but dang... tight strings. Maybe the 10's will feel just right? : )

    Thanks for sharing. I've been thinking about buying this exact guitar/color. I wonder how the guitar would sound through an acoustic amp?

  • @icomedia1

    @icomedia1

    With this guitar, string choice is a huge part of getting optimal sound. I've played it through a PA and it sounds great but you have to consider what you want out of it. As an acoustic or more for a clean electric for jazz tones. With the stock pickup, you cant really get a lot of tone variety, it is very much a warm neck pup. I use the guitar as an acoustic and as a backup electric (only if I'm up shit's creek). So for strings I use DR Zebras or GHS White Bronze. I prefer the DR's. Great acoustic tone but still has decent output from the pickup and they are pretty much at unity gain. Using either bronze acoustic or electric nickels will make it NOT unity gain.

    Play nice everyone. My channel isn't for rude banter. Like it? Thumbs up. Don't? Thumbs down. Don't like what someone says, discuss like adults or move on. Btw. Played a few shows with this guitar already and it was awesome. Have DR Zebras on it and they are great. Still trying strings to find the dream team but Zebras are the best of the three I've tried already. My wireless tapped out on my electric, swapped to this mid-song through my electric rig and took a solo too. Did what I bought it for. 🤘🏻

    Thanks for the reviews. I have been looking for a thinline for a while and it is so hard to find reviews. I came to the exact same conclusion as you between A6 or a TL-6. Even after watching both reviews, I am leaning towards a TL-6. Don't mind switching guitars and I just want an acoustic that plays like an electric and sounds like an acoustic for the occasional time I need one when recording (I think my playing out days are over).

    Unboxing with no plastic wrap... Some companies set up the guitars first and check everything before they send it to you ie Sweetwater guitars does a 55? Point inspection prior to shipping.

    Cool thanks for sharing! Been torn between this and the Taylor t5 for awhile. definetely think it works better when running two separate channels (with the acoustic going to an acoustic amp) There also used to be alternate wound strings to help with the magnetic pickuo aspect.. not sure if they are still around.

    Nathan Dickey yea DR makes zebra which is alternate bronze/nickel. That and ghs white bronze. T5 is cool but the price difference is what made me go with Godin. So far it’s been a killer axe.

    Can you give any updates after owning it for a while? Has it lived up to your expectations for playing out? Ive been kind of interested in this guitar and the LTD thinline you had in another video. Ive been primarily an electric player and just started playing my Taylor 114ce a lot more. Im wondering if switching to a thinline like this would be easier to play than the Taylor. I think my Taylor sounds good but is kind of tough for me to play and after a while kind of uncomfortable. Would mainly be playing plugged into a PA so unplugged sound not of concern. Type of music would be 90s cover type stuff. Lot videos on here but not too many just playing strummed chords.

    mdurg awesome question! I’ve played about a dozen gigs with it so far and it has been awesome. Actually switched to it mid-song at a gig because my wireless crapped out and ran it with dirt and it worked really well, too. It is very comfortable switching to it from a solid body as it is as thin, heavy, and the scale lengths are similar. I prefer this over the Ltd for sure. The Ltd sounded great but a one trick pony and is super long! Doesn’t fit in a regular gig bag coz it’s so long. Tone shaping is super basic on it too (which is cool) but the A6 has more tones to choose from. I play in a cover band that plays 90’s stuff too and it’s awesome in a mix. I used a martin jumbo for years as a soloist which was great but the martin tone in a band mix isn’t necessary. A6 is definitely a wise purchase.

    could you tell me what would be a good overdrive pedal to run the humbucker through? i would be going direct to the pa board. i have a older godin with a single coil neck that was custom put in. i run it through a blonde pedal. sounds like crap. the acoustic is run through a fishman acoustic pedal. i want to get a new a6 like this one. just not getting a good sound through pa. want to add a little dirt for solos any input would be great thanks.

    i reckon it just sounds like a regular ol electric unplugged? i know its mostly operating on the electronics/piezo but was curious with the bridge and build if it maybe sounded slightly different unplugged or possibly more resonant.

  • @icomedia1

    @icomedia1

    6 жыл бұрын

    InnerPull hey. Unplugged it has some volume since it’s chambered. Def not on par with volume or tone of an acoustic but more than a solid body. I’d say it would make a decent background Guitar if an unplugged acoustic was taking a solo but would get mostly lost in the mix chording together. It may be slightly audible in a mix because it has a strong midrange to high frequency but volume wise, it would get covered

    I Acquired A Godin A 6 Ultra. Superb for blending And Using Humbucker To Boost Your Acoustics....If You're Looking For Strat Or Sg Type Tones From The Humbucker You Will Need A Good Pedal To Tweak It..On It's Own It Is Quite Heavy/Muddy But It Is Tweakable.To Swap It Out Would Risk Damage To Elecs Circuitry So For Me That's A No No...This Guitar Will Take A While To Get Used To...But The Incredible Tones You Can Get Out Of It Are Well Worth The Patience ....And No FeedBack At All..At First I Was A Bit Dismayed.That Was Until I Learned How To Use It...Now...I Can't Put It Down...It Is A Superb Hybrid Guitar...After All It Is A Godin...High End Stuff.

    I love Godins and the nylons are awesome. I however never like what I hear of this guitar on any videos, whereas Yamaha silent guitar slg200s always sounds amazing every video I see. So for steel string godins haven't been winsome as yet. The electric pickup is a unique strength for live as you explained when you needed it to play electric songs with your band

    Emerson Scud Derota I have not tried phosphor bronze yet. I have read that magnetic pickup would be weak because of conductivity. I have DR Zebras now and they are much better than factory strings which I believe are D'Addario Jazz with wound 3rd and better than D'Addario Nickel Bronze. With the Zebras, the piezo and magnetic pickup are pretty balanced. I do run the blend out into a PA. The pickup, I'd send to my electric rig if I I'm in a bind.

    Mr. I I own a guitar with both piezo and magnetic pickups(Epiphone ej200). I experimented using phosphor and nickel strings. seems like piezos are better suited for phosphor bronze and nickels have a big output in magnetic pickups. I asked this question because I am planning to acquire an A6 ultra in the future.

    Emerson Scud Derota yea I like the guitar a lot. The DR Zebras are great because they are wound with both phosphor bronze and nickel. Best of both worlds. GHS white bronze are supposed to be good too but haven't tried yet. I'll probably try phosphor bronze soon because I use the guitar mostly as my acoustic in my band but would like the humbucker to use as a backup electric
