"God Of War" Theme | Icelandic + English Lyrics
Bit of a different video, I wanted to do something incorporating one of my favorite game titles, God of War, and so here you go, a nice translated lyric video of the main theme. Please enjoy :)

Mad how this song is like a Spartan marching song repeating Faye’s wishes in his head over and over, which in turn shows you how much is going through his mind and how he deals with it as a Spartan. I'm Icelandic so here are corrections for those that care. Þraut barnsins - The child's trial. Græð Kvöl hans - Heal his suffering. Ég syndir ber - I carry sins. Sefa heift hans - Put his anger to rest. Saurgun sannleiks - The truth defiled. Und svíður - Wounds hurt ("Svíður" is to my experience said when you have been cut or burned. it's that pain that comes afterwards, residual pain or the one that comes after the adrenaline wears off and the wound can feel a bit hot. That's when we say that it "Svíður". It could be referring to emotional pain as well. Und just means wound. So "wounds remain" is not entirely off) Ger fortíð upp - Make up for the past. (Not just confronting the past but making up for it as well) Guðs plága - That which plauges/haunts the gods. ("Guðs plága" means Gods plague but Plága/plauge can also mean "haunting" as in "this thing haunts/plagues me still.") Edit: Saur means shit so Saurgun means like shittified so in other words the Truth has been shittified. Someone has been spouting bullshit. :þ

After ragnarok so much makes sense. Make up for the past could be foreshadowing how Kratos would become the rebuilder of Midgard and finally be worshipped as a benevolent god. He finally let go of his past and all the rage that came with it and moved on to become better
This song is talking about the game itself and the events that happen in it. It is talking about the relationship between Kratos and Atreus

When I was a young boy I would watch my father, play God of war 1, 2 and 3 he was always drunk and I would help him with the puzzles. My father was an alcoholic...and lost him to the disease. Playing God of war and ragnarok. This game has such a special place in my heart. Kratos pain, anger rage and vengeance. And his growth into fatherhood and wisdom against God hood. Me being a father now...the story and depth of this game goes beyond words. And resonates with my soul.

All of the above, really. The directors have said that much of what they show is about mirrors and parallels. Freya loved Baldur so much, but by holding on too tight, she ended up pushing him away. Kratos wants nothing more to protect Atreus, but begins to see what happens when you try to hold on too tightly.
@BlacK40k

@@thomashunt2240 The thing about Freya is that she was selfish. Selfish about what the death of her son would do to her instead of considering how her son would feel about or how it would influence his life (speaking about the invulnerability spell). And she didn't want to see it. The Norns got her good when they said "She always finds somebody to blame but herself"
@mithiwithi
Жыл бұрын
@@BlacK40k Got her so good that she actually confronted the fact and started trying to grow past it. I feel the Norns aren't just disinterested spectators of the interplay of people. That they actually _like_ it when people grow and change. Changes the "prophecies", makes life interesting. And I think they do interfere... by what they choose to reveal and not reveal. If they hadn't told Kratos about Heimdall, would he have sought to arm himself against the Herald of Ragnarök? And had he not done so, Heimdall may well have prevailed. And they knew the way to make _sure_ Kratos would follow the path they intended for him was to let Kratos think Heimdall was a threat to Atreus. Well played, Norns. Well played.

"He needs a farther, not a god" is one of most simple but heartfelt lines ive heard.
*He's in pain* *He needs a father* *_Not a god_* Got me tearing up over here. Not to mention that the footage playing during that section (in the video) is Atreus with his mother's body, and when it gets to the line _"not a god"_ it's that moment when Kratos is standing at the door, huge, intimidating, and wreathed in shadow, like damn...I don't know if that was intentional or not, but holy shit, I got chills over here. Edit: Upon immediate rewatch that was 100% intentional, and I appreciate it. Good on you, OP.

Something that this game portrays better than any media I've ever seen, is the crippling fear in a man who is trying to be a father, but whose own father didn't show him how.. or showed him the wrong way. The immense pressure that not only does he have to figure out how to do something that no one's ever taught him to do, but he must constantly be aware that his base instinct will probably be incorrect. And the weight of the knowledge that if he fails, he will just create another being as miserable as he is. Which I think is the ultimate sin.
@Murmarine
Жыл бұрын
!Spoilers! Building on this, is that through his journey with Atreus to the peak, Kratos not only learns to trust his son, but others as well. Hell, he calls Mimir brother in Ragnarok, actively seeks the council of his, Atreus' or Freya's, reassures Brok of his work as a blacksmith. He is still learning how to handle all the things around him, especially with a rebellious son who is walking a same path as once a younger Kratos did, and probably the best moment in Ragnarök is when the two go hunting again.
"trust the boy" got me chuckling
1:28 I LOVED this part!!!
This game's depth... the song has lore for the WHOLE GAME IN ORDER. Bear, you deserve a ton.
“Hes in pain, needs a father not a God” damn
It's kinda cool how even though the languages have branched off thousands of years ago, Scandinavian tongues like Icelandic and Swedish still have parts which echo each other. Words like Barn(sin) - Child, Gud - God, and Han(n) - He match between the languages.

"He's in pain, he needs a father not a god"
“Did you know your son sounds like a goose when he gets hurt? Huhh! Huhh!”
I really like the way you did this video. It makes the song even better. Great job!
I like how the when the lyrics change from "he needs a father" to "not a god", the cutscene playing at background just so happens to be a drastic change in direction of camera, showing Kratos entering the room and laid his eye on Arteus, and considering this is at the very early stage of the norse mythology gameplay where Kratos is still learning how to be a proper "DAD" dad, it mutually makes the soundtrack and cutscene even better. Yeah i know this might been edited to achieve this effect, or Namor took some creative liberty in translation ,maybe i'm just looking too deep into it, but i would be damned to say the final result isn't gorgeous.
God of war is a game that never makes me cry, but the soundtrack of this game just hits different

this gives me chills
I cannot show enough of my fucking appreciation for this video. I love God of War, and I was literally sobbing after watching this last night.
It’s cool being scandinavian and recognizing parts of your modern language in old norse.
It’s kind of amazing how listening to the lyrics I can see it from both of their perspectives. Who knows if that’s intentional or it’s just something I see
Just started new game plus. This is amazing.
This is great bro good job
healing these lyrics you realize how even more perfect these songs are for gow
This song is genius. How at the start it's just "Father's shame" "Mother's hope" "Son's pain", as if Kratos is bluntly telling you what the paradigm is. However as it goes on the (sub vocals) kick in, seemingly to be his consciousness telling himself to (Trust The Boy), that he hopes that perhaps Atreus is his way to (Heal His Rage), that the curse of god blood is beyond repair but his consciousness is telling him to trust Atreus, that one day he will leave and that Kratos deserves no redemption for what he has done. But again, his consciousness comes in to argue for redemption. It then continues with new lyrics of their coming adventure, while still having the "Father's shame" "Mother's hope" "Son's pain" repeated. As is Kratos is trying to move on, trying to spend time on this adventure with Atreus, trying to be more and accept Faye is gone, but he just can't yet. He can't accept she's dead, that he's alone to care for his kid, that he has to finally forgive himself.
Lol the pronunciation of "mother" "father" "child" and "son" is basically the same as my language. I speak Kam Kata vari,it's a Nuristani language(Nuristan is a small province in eastern Afghanistan),so weird how people from miles away can have similar vocabulary.
