This is one of the best parts of the game, it really makes you sympathise with the characters that are supposed to be your antagonists. But you also don't spend too long with them. This is something TLOU 2 tried and struggled. I think TLOU 2 almost pulled it off, because you kinda sympathise with the members of Abby's group as you walk around their camp, greet their dogs and stuff, and the kids you rescue from the cult are also nice. But at the same time the player has just gone on this massive quest to kill all of Abby's friends as Ellie and then is immediately thrown in to the other side's perspective, it's kinda jarring. You're also still recoiling from Joel's death, and the whole message of ending the cycle of violence and revenge is undermined by the fact that Abby and Ellie have both been doing the exact same thing the entire game up until the very last moments, whereas Kratos has been conveying this message throughout the entire game, and only when Brok is killed does he turn back to war. Imagine if Kratos dies at the beginning of GoW ragnarok, you're not going to want to see Odin's perspective and the player themselves are going to want to get revenge no matter what so the message of "ending the cycle" won't sit well with people, which is exactly what happened in TLOU 2.

I haven't played game or watched full gameplay, but this scene is interesting. This is actually very accurate to the lore. In the lore, Loki appeared to Asgard out of no where, no one knew who he was or where he was from. Every god in Asgard hated him so much, but somehow Odin, the All-Father, was fond of him and gave him respects. Odin was the reason Loki was never kicked out of Asgard despite all his mischief, and Odin always paid very deep attention to his words, always had Loki sit next to him and listened to him. Some versions say Odin actually considered Loki to be his brother. While Thor also was never fond of Loki, he saw his usage. Of course, of all the god in Asgard, the one who hated Loki most was Heimdall. He could foresee Loki's foul treachery even before the Ragnarok. And when Ragnarok befell to the world, it was Heimdall who battled Loki at the last moment, even when all the gods were already dead, and Heimdall killed Loki with the cost of his life. So this scene is really interesting. Even though Loki in God of War is different character, the depiction here is very accurate to the lore.

Fun little detail that most people miss: Notice when Atreus (Loki) fights Heimdall, his health bar doesn’t appear above like you see in most boss battles. That’s because this is all part of the cutscene story. Very cool!

At 14:01 Odin says "Jörgen! Those better not be mushrooms I smell!" This is a reference to "God of War" 2018 when Mimir talks about how he got Odin high on soup made with magic mushrooms and gouged out his own eye. Odin probably swore off ever eating mushrooms again after that.

At any rate, yeah - lots of gold was used by the Æsir during its construction, which is probably why they made the dwarves a little while after. Though it was large enough to have training fields, and of course bits of the world tree could be seen.

The more I watch this Odin, the more I like him. As Heimdall put it, "Real power does not need to flaunt." Physically, he looks quite unassuming; balding and skinny. The way he talks is amiable and conversationalist (At first I was put off how he spoke like an American mobster. I expected him to speak like a king. Grand and with hidden meanings). Of course, all of this is through the eyes of his adversaries. People who he needs to convince (Atreus) and people who stand in his way (Kratos). The way he speaks to his underlings-Thor, Heimdall, Sif-is dismissive. He is a true manipulator. There's never a scene where he twirls a handlebar mustache or laughs maniacally. He is always manipulating and always playing the part of the old wise man.

I unironically love Heimdall. The SECOND he showed up eating an APPLE (universal pretentious asshole fruit), I knew he was gonna be entertaining. He's exactly the type of sniviling, POS you love to watch get fucking decked. (Plus his VA absolutely killed it. He nailed every line. One of my favorite performances in the whole game.)

This game is a masterpiece the only thing I didn’t like was we couldn’t really do much in Asgard, and as a thought imagine if we side quests, and a few of said missions involved helping the sons of Ivaldi and as a reward for helping them, Atraus gets their skills and when they see his bow and ask if brook and sindri enhanced his bow, idk but the things they would say and the things brook and sindri would say would just be GOLD.
