Kratos wasn't really aware of the consequences, and I think the effects of the collateral damage have been ret-conned out. I guess Kratos' attemped sacrifice at the end actually managed to reverse a lot of the damage.

But also consider. Every time a God died in the earlier games, their domain was lost. When Helios died, the sun was permanently blocked. When Posideon died, the seas went nuts. Considering how Kratos killed every other God in his pantheon except himself obviously, wouldn't it stand to reason that all the Greek citizens (if there's any left) have the capability to do now is wage war, as the last surviving God is the God of War?

While he slaughtered his way through everyone and everything we sometimes got reminded that he is a loving father and husband and just how much he hates himself for the monster he has become. Now that is flipped. Kratos is a father and grieving husband first, but that monster was always there and watching the story unfold, the player was wondering, anxiously, if this monster would step out of the shadows before Atreus.

A true test of a man is what he does with power. A father saying that to their son, trying to make sure they don’t grow up with the same confusion and anger that plagued most young men with no guidance, we must be better. Kinder, smarter, wiser, empathetic, caring, defend those who cannot defend themselves.
