Episode 213: Ladders
Ladders is a great method for introducing competition into your group work.
The session is a reaction based activity which see's the winner move up and the loser move down. The aim is to react, be the first to the ball and move it across the line.
Players will be given movement tasks such as bounce, touch the ground and turn for example. Each word that is called is a distraction to create an uncertainty for when they must dive to the ball.
Place any two coloured markers either side of each pair
Balls must be spaced away from the next group, incase of contact
Goalkeepers must start one yard from the line
If the ball crosses the line but is blocked, they cannot win until the ball passes the keeper.
Should there be an issue, rock, paper or scissors will determine the winner.
As the goalkeepers move up and down, you can assess technique and performance.
Watch for:
Set Position - are they still bouncing or moving when the call is made? are they on their toes with their body weight forward?
The Dive - Are they extending their nearest arm or is their body turning due to bending the elbow or attacking with two hands?
Wrong Way - Are they diving the wrong way due to trying to read the coach or anticipating the call. Are they stronger on one side so that dictates which way they try to go?
