Go up SpaceX's Starship-catching robotic launch tower with Elon Musk!

Ғылым және технология

Today we’re going up SpaceX's Orbital Launch Tower with the ultimate tour guide, Elon Musk. He’s going to walk us around the bottom, explain how they plan to catch the booster with the chopsticks and then we'll go up the elevator stopping at the quick disconnect and on the upper deck!

Man, I think the biggest and coolest take away from this is watching Elon actually take in the view for the first time. You can tell that he is probably always so focused on the project that he never stops to just take a look and appreciate the beauty of the world around him. And you could tell he was almost in awe of his own creation, taking it in for the first time like everybody else there. A man like that probably doesn't get a chance to just stop and appreciate very often.

These perspectives are not very different. Failure is a possible outcome, but not an option. It is something that might happen, but it is not something you are willing to choose. Gene Krantz's creed comes from a time when NASA took its mission seriously. It never meant "we won't do anything that might fail", it means "we will not accept failure until we have exhausted all options". Elon's version implicitly accepts that failure is possible, even likely.

I have so many friends who call him ‘evil’ without understanding what his goals are or that he doesn’t particularly care about money - he seems to see money as a resource for getting things done. And Elon is doing more to make our species multi-planetary than anyone else alive.

@@RryhhbfrHhgdHhgd356 aha yes I meant $21 billion haha I see where you’re coming from, however Elon musk is not responsible for improving the electrical infrastructure across the the USA, what he has done has created the demand for such infrastructure with his electric vehicles, forcing firms and the government to supply such stations. He understands how economics works, and how free markets dictate that supply=demand. Infrastructure of electrics and talks renewables, are becoming ever more present because of Teslas shakeup of the automotive world. What Elon does is shocks the system into change, and he will continue to do so. Regard twitter, I think he was fed up with the censorship that was going on with the platform, and the bots that roam the twitter biome. I think it is quite an important problem to address, considering the lack of freedom of speech currently, on massive social media platforms such as twitter.

It really is special. People who don't think it is do not have full comprehension of what Elon and his SpaceX teams have accomplished. In a world where getting out of bed and not complaining is an achievement, what SpaceX is doing and has done feels to me as grand as creating an entirely new planet from scratch.

That atmosphere on top of the tower was insane. Being there with Elon is like you suddenly occurred in the front of all the humanity and there is nothing left that would be more innovative in spaceflight, you have to create it, push it forward. I guess that's what these guys feel every day when they get back to work...
