"Go the Distance (Hercules)" - Rendezvous Quartet (Live in the Studio)
Музыка
Please watch in HD!
My quartet Rendezvous had the pleasure of recording a 7 song EP in October of 2009 here in Toronto. My older sister Sarah, a Ryerson University media student, was able to secure us some studio time as well as coordinate and co-produce the session along with myself.
"Go the Distance" is from Disney's "Hercules" and was written by Alan Menken. It was adapted for barbershop by Aaron Dale and made famous by the quartet "Vocal Spectrum". Danny transcribed the recording in the winter of 2008 and it has become a crowd favourite at our shows!
Bass : Calvin Frank (mrcalvinfrank)
Baritone : Andrew Kesler (andrewkesler)
Lead : Brodie Cuff (brodiecuff)
Tenor : Danny Fong (daniscool99)
Working in the booth along with my sister was our good friend and amazing drummer Tristan Henderson (check him out in my videos of "Nardis" and "In the Beginning"). Tristan engineered the session and did most of the mixing along with myself. The final mixes of all the tunes were completed in early February and I've been slowly working away on the videos when i've had time.
If you're interested in getting your hands on mp3s of our work, feel free to send me a private message and I'll get back to you!
Equipment used:
Blue Bottle (Danny), Neumann TLM 103 (Brodie), Neumann TLM 49 (Calvin), Blue Berry (Andrew)
NOT SHOWN: 2 Apex 435's placed in opposite room corners for Stereo effect, and a large diaphragm condenser mic placed high up in the center of the room. Note: The room was TERRIBLE for barbershop singing, which was a bit of a drag, but we did it anyways.
Recorded and mixed on Protools 8. Video shot with some random nice camera (it was dark in the room so I lightened it so it looks kinda grainy). Video edited with Final Cut Pro. NO PITCH CORRECTION OF ANY KIND USED! What you're seeing is what you're hearing. EQ, Compression, Limiting, Reverbs (long and short) and other such plug-ins used, as well as volume automation.
Don't forget to rate and subscribe and comment and all that. We'd really appreciate if you'd share this with your friends and family because we don't make any money doing this and it takes lots of work, so getting some extra exposure helps out a lot!
Thanks, and enjoy!

I like how the baritone is really expressive with his eyebrows. That's so entertaining.

+Alex - You are right! I have not heard that kind of resonance since my dad's barbershop quartet performances! And, he sang with some of the Buffalo Bills. Well done!

It’s actually the lead part believe it or not! My quartet has a copy of the original sheet music and it’s on the lead part which made our lead almost faint when he saw it lol. In this video the lead and tenor must of switched parts.

Connor Warnock vocal spectrum switches tenor and lead too!
Still my favorite arrangement of this amazing song.
23secs sustain for the tenor on the last part,,.pure chest..wow
I find it funny that the Tenor sang this with other people AND even did his own version. Just shows how much talent he has :) of course the others are good too! Danny though, went the extra mile, or may I say...HAHA "The Distance"
still slaps 14 years later
FINALLY. Someone finally sang that really long last note and has appeased my longing to hear someone else pull it off 😭
Thanks for listening Jessie! This is a pretty old video for us (recorded over 3 years ago) but it seems that this song is quite the popular one. Nice to meet a fellow Canadian!
crap that tenor held that note for like 10 years hard to do. congrats to all of you

Tim Waurick is the original guy who can post like that in this song. I’ve heard him go over a minute
I tried to hold the note with the tenor...and I may have almost passed out. Props to you, man!!
14 years later, still here!
So, I convinced that the tenor in the green shirt has at least 3 lungs because he held that note forever.... thumbs up :-)

Holy shit the guy in light green shirt on the far left held his breath for 30 seconds towards the end of the song. Legend!!
This is the best cover ever. I've been listening to this song since I found it, for several years. Thank you for the beautiful music.

Best version of this song 11 years later
Danny Fong held that note for 22 seconds... all hail the tenor of the gods!
I had to bookmark this video. Definitely need to hear it every once in a while. Love it.
"I will please my God, I can go the distance!" AMEN
I've watched this about a 1,000 times now and it never gets old. Bravo!!
Holy crap that tenor with the long note at the end❤️❤️❤️
This was the video that started off my obsession with barbershop quartets. It never gets old because it's so wonderful so I always rock out to this like it's nobody's business haha.
WOW. The resonance is alot better when it's more than just danny singing all the parts. Not that danny is a bad singer or even has a strange timbre when in his extended range. The overtones just stack up so much nicer when you have a bass who is a bass. That and brodie has an amazing lead voice. Loud and smooth. Plus you guys singing together can fine-tune your timbre so that the tones stack well. Overall this was probably the best I have heard you guys sound. EXCELLENT job.
Danny's held note at the end gets me every time!
Yooooooooooooooooooo. Mad props. Wish my choir program could've afforded the sheet music so we could've done it. Chills... bless
I remember listening to this when it was first uploaded. Made me fall in love with acapella
The one on the left holding out that note until the end!!!! Wow!!!! Excellent harmony as well!!!!
That last tenor note I was able to hold for 22 seconds sitting down. You might not believe me but I've been singing for 9 years. And with practice anyone can do it. But props to you guys! It was great! Good job!
the guy all the way on the left held that note forever! that was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2022 and this is still my favorite arrangement!
Of all the acapella music I listen to this is hands down the best. Ol boy on the left has the lung capacity to swim to the bottom of the ocean. I hate that it's over a decade old they deserve the same recognition as pentatonix home free and voctive.
That last tenor blow OMG
Oh my! That was fantastic! New favorite quartet. And Brodie's face at the end is priceless. I love it!!
The baritone is sooo cute! They are all talented nice one! ;)
ok I think I just found another favorite group! lol Love these guys!
I've seen this at least a million times. Haven't gotten tired of it.
i love how they just walk away like what they just did was no big deal. like hoooooollllllyyyyyy crap i can't even imagine the energy that must be in that room while they are singing! SOO SOO AWESOME!
I really like this performance. It's mechanically perfect, and there's just the right amount of expression. Most barbershop groups go over the top, and I guess it's meant that easy, but this track its very mellow and pleasing.
Keep listening this gem five years since i hear it for the first time
Nearly five years since I first heard this and I still love it:)
Seriously! The length of that note at the end is that even possible!!! Stunning and amazing
I've watched this 10 times now and still love it. Superb singing, incredibly mature sense of balance, and Danny's schockingly amazing last note. You all should be extremely proud.
This makes me unspeakably happy and I’m sharing it with EVERYONE.
Love the tenor at the end, so damn gorgeous!
There's just something about good looking guys singing Disney.... I love it.
Amazing!!!!💥💥🌟Danny, that last note that you held forever, was awesome.
I keep finding myself return to this video over and over and over.
the guy who holds the note at the end is a legend.
the best acapella i've ever heard! this is one of my fav songs
holy......is it possible to be speechless through this video and an additional 2 minutes after that?? that was AWESOME!!!!
I think I've watched this video a few dozen times by now. I'm still in awe about Danny's long note at the end. Absolutely amazing. I can do it but I struggle to finish it.
Guys! !! I'm from St. Petersburg and send my like to Toronto!!!
I love how long Danny holds the note out because I'll admit that it's not entirely easy to do. But I can surprisingly do it with him. It just takes training to know to take a large in-take of breath right before the night and then slowly (very slowly) exhale that breath.
Nice to see young men interested in barbershop. I'm the youngest member of a barbershop ensemble at 17 and a half, but we're trying a youth outreach program.
It's so wild to me that this is a classic that I keep returning to over the years but it has less than a million views....
Brovo to Danny Fong!!!! with the Long note that last for 25 sec from 3:00 - 3:25 a super Lung Power!!! God Bless Man!!!
😱he sang that note forever!!!
I first came across your video, while searching for Disney acapella music. This was 4 years ago. Till date, I listen to the 4 of you, when I need that sudden burst of inspiration or when I feel most low. I have loved this song ever since I first saw Hercules and you have done an incredible job. The last note still gives me goosebumps. I want to thank you for this gem of a video!!
Go the Distance is one of my favorite Disney songs, and I love a capella, so this is quickly becoming one of my favorite versions of this song yet. Love it!
It's been a while since I've watched this. It gave me a fuzzy feeling. This is will always be my favorite.
bariton and tenor - the most emotional guys !
There is a very nice blend in the voices...I really love barbershop and these guys are a great example as to why.
I can't believe danny can hold that high note for so long and in full voice
THAT ENDING!!
Damn, the first Tenor held his last note for like 22 seconds straight! Amazing Job!
FANTASTIC.
that low tone voice just makes me go nuts., thought its hard to hit high pitch but its quite exhausting to get to that low pitch as well., thumbs up., like the rendition much.., :D
I love this......
I think the Baritone listens a lot and he is the glue that holds this group together. He is terrific!
Excellent work! Jesus, everything just works. It's beautiful to listen to.
This song is so amazing, and your rendition of it was perfect! That last long note was..... Just, wow...!
Me too! Love it!
Got goosebumps, love it
In tears at the end... Thanks.
Watched this a bunch of times, never gets old
ive had the longest obsession with this song/youtube video. it always makes me smile every single time i watch it. amazing! i could never get tired of it! :D
Wooooooow, the guy in the lime green shirt sure held that last note for a long time! Impressive!
That note hold at the end! WOW!
Years later, this is still so so so good! Great job guys 👍🏽👍🏽You have truly gone the distance with this one 😃
Instantly subscribed, instantly amazed, instantly disappointed you guys haven't been signed for a big project. GREAT JOB, I would say this is inline with Maccabeats quality, I was stunned. Danny Fong, you sang the final note so long I stopped breathing! :D
10 years later this is Still amazing :)
I can't stop listening.
I don´t get tired of seeing this!!!! Awesome... just awesome...
Absolutely beautiful!
absolutely obsessed with this! been listening to it non stop all week, you all have such amazing voices!!
I love it
I always find myself coming back to this song and it helps me relax. it leaves me speechless
Ohhhhh amazing....
the ability to sustain the breath is crazy! vgg everyone!
I love all of the suspension; you guys kept me on the edge of my seat! Good work!
Absolutely tremendous performance guys. I love powerful vocalists that can perform with or without instrumental accompaniment. I have listened to this song 3 times so far and can't get enough. Props to Danny for holding that last note for 22 seconds. I could see the strain in his face but the pitch stayed perfect!
Best version I have ever seen
It's listened to this about ten times now.
I sooooo love this!
Best ever!!!! I cant belive that people can do this.
gives me chills every time I watch. one of my favs. please keep on singing guys!
I love it !
speechless. it's the most challenging thing to keep tight harmonies like that in tune, and the length the tenor sustained his note at the end was impressive. wow. keep it up. real talent.
