Gnosis, A Divine Heresy - The Nag Hammadi Library and Philip K Dick's Epiphany [Esoteric Saturdays]

Following last video's suggestion that the line of distinction between Jesus and Lucifer may not be as well defined as they iniially seem, we explore the faces of Gnosticism today, attempting to make sense of this strange proposition.

Denis I as a Muslim I am also alarmed at how my religion has become corrupted, seemingly by Islamic institutions. Whilst I cannot trace the antecedents as far back as the Romans, it does appear to originate with British Security Services in the 18th Century (to undermine the Ottoman Empire). With social media this corruption is becoming all pervasive, suggesting that Muslims with beliefs like mine are a minority. But the only data I can find suggests that we represent 90% of all Muslims, even I believe this to be an over-estimation, but it does highlight the magnitude of the deception.

Its happening to all forms of spiritual thought. Its described by hindus as the kali yuga. Essentially its a time where spiritual practice becomes corrupt by our spiritual leaders and we experience a long period of world wide suffering and lack of collective intelligence.

I have read so many different interpretations of the Sophia-Dmiurge story, but I never really solidified a very good point of view. This was the first and geatest explanation of the story. And it explains so much about this reality and why there is evil in the world and also a god. It also explains the curse in Genesis about the enmity between the seeds, and the strange devil-jesus-prometheus connection. The seeds that choose the fruit will forever be at odds with the seeds who refuse and choose ignorance. This channel is priceless.

This is a beautiful introduction to a fraught topic. It is blindingly clear, now, that I've been quietly gnostic since I became conscious, at around age four, which is sixty nine years ago. It's been a fascinating journey since then, reclaiming what was lost and repairing what can be repaired. Not least, in myself. I now have a text of the Nag Hammadi Library I can turn to online, thanks to you, without buying more books. My bookshelves have gotten rather overcrowded in my casita and I've mostly forgotten what I have in storage, although surely one of the collections is in there as well. Please pardon my logorrhea! Thanks again.

And boy, can I relate to the heaving shelves xD I remember prining out the APocryphon of John and taking to it with pens and highlighters, all things I'd never dream of doing to a book :) But it's only now, almost 20 years later that I have finally bought a hardcover edition of this collection of texts that has been so central to my faith, but that's really for sentimental purposes. The Logos lives within :)

Rudolf Steiner's approach to christian mysticism and cosmology is my favorite, and I think expands on the ides of these texts in useful ways, even though he lived before the discovery of the Nag Hammadi. His teachings on Christ, Lucifer, and Ahriman are quite illuminating, Gigi Young here on youtube has a great video that explains the basics of that part of his school of esoteric teachings

@@bluwng Yes, the bible is still used as a major reference point in basically all forms of christian mysticism, but is read in an esoteric way that keeps in mind that the bible is a mix of deeply embedded spiritual symbolism and history, along with various different manipulations that were done to it by later actors seeking to distort christ's message and use it for control (which has happened to basically all religions in one way or another unfortunately). Steiner's esoteric interpretations of the bible are vast and hard to sum up, but incredibly insightful when you start looking into them. There is a youtube channel called Rudolf Steiner Press Audio where this one guy does readings of steiner's various lectures and books. If I were to recommend you some books for where you seem to be on your path, I'd give you: The Spiritual Guidance of The Individual and Humanity, Christianity as Mystical Fact, and An Outline Of Esoteric Science. All three of those are books by Steiner. I would also recommend Be Here Now by Ram Dass, which imo is just the best starting point for spiritual info in general

@@bluwng Run away from this. It is a false doctrine that I was in for 7 years. People interpret the Bible through the prism of esotericism, taking sentences out of context. A good example is the apostle Paul who claims that we are the temple of God. Taken out of context, that sentence can be interpret it as a divine essence that is in all of us and that we need to activate. But when read in the context of the Bible, that sentence refers to people who received the holy spirit. The same holy spirit that descended on the 70 elders in the old testament. Don't let yourself be misled by those idiots! Study Christianity in detail!!!

Look into Eastern Christian mysticism, you find the esoteric part there but in all the beter forms. I have literally intuitively felt these ideas, in my own meditations and searching for spiritual answers. I've never known all these details you included in this video about gnosticism, yet I have spent long bouts of time thinking about how the Bible says Satan is the "God of this world" or something similar to that. There is this idea that "the most high god", the true singular source of all divinity power energy etc. Did not DIRECTLY create out world that we live in. Like there is a true divine source of all things in turn, indirectly, but was not DIRECTLY responsible for the details of the creation of our reality that we are trapped in. I have felt this on a deep level, many times in thought and meditation and while watching this video everything just lined up and connected and gave me POWERFUL chills and tingles. The kind of chills and tingles I get when something resonates true.

Gnosis is cognate to the Sanskrit word jñāna, which also means ‘knowledge.’ Depending on the context, jñāna can refer to ordinary knowledge, meaning knowledge of objective phenomena or knowing how to do something or understanding of philosophical concepts - but in a yogic context it generally refers to a state of consciousness where one knows universal consciousness in a similar way to how Adam knew Eve - through ecstatic union in which the experience of worldly boundaries completely dissolves in superconsciousness. I couldn’t say for sure if gnosis is used in contextually similar ways, but my understanding was that it referred to a similar union with the spiritual heart that creates, preserves, and destroys absolutely everything. By which I mean that the demiurge can only create the world by the will of the monad

In 2018 while I was living in San Diego, I was sitting on my balcony at night and felt something energetic hit me in the forehead between the brows from the outside. I experienced my pineal gland open. It was like in the movies when an alien puts their fingers on a person's forehead and transfer information. Another day while walking I could see/sense a light of that pinkish color coming through the top of my head from above. This was a start of some absolutely insane experiences and transmutation for me.

An interesting thought I just had. I believe that the Bible we got nowadays is different then of what the source material was because it was in the end edited by humans and Roman empire used it to enhance their power/standing. God knew of this and thats why despite the edits and the cutout stuff. It still preserves (more or less) the main original message that was intended to be received. I'm seeing the other stuff resurfacing now as Gods/Worlds/Universe/call it whatever telling us that we are now ready to receive this knowledge

Any study of Gnositicism should include Elaine Pagels' The Gnostic Gospels. She is a well-respected historian of early Christianity. On Dick, there are a number of movies of his works, including A Scanner Darkly, and also many movies influenced by his thought, including The Matrix, Dark City, and The Sixth Sense, which depends heavily on Dick's Ubik. The most authentic Dickian movie is Radio Free Albemuth. The book was put together by a friend of Dick's after his death, from notes, but it is a good representation of Dick's mature thoughts.

I think Steiners cosmology is a "middle ground " between pure gnosticism and exoteric churchianity. In his cosmology we are part of earth and the perfected "way" is to evolve with the earth . We descend deep into matter in order to fully individuate and then re-spiritualize as an individual soul.

I read as many of his books as I could get my hands on and nobody but me and two friends knew who he was. He died around a year and a half after we discovered him. The first story I read was Father Thing in The Best of Philip K. Dick. Flow My Tears was the first novel I read. Shortly afterwards, I read VALIS and that book consumed my life ever.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my basic superficial understanding of the bare-bones narrative of "Gnosticism" via Nag Hammadi, is that the entire physical _universe_ (and adjoining Planes) is the misbegotten creation of a misbegotten Creator, either directly or through His cohorts. I don't think I can "roll" with that. It's a big universe. Moreover, it inserts a fetid duality between the corporeal realm (lowly, outside and bereft of Divinity) and the more pleasing, energetic non-physical domains of Existence beyond. My suspicion is that those who writhe in revulsion against their flesh (been there, done that, _still_ not really digg'n it) are condemned to be reincarnated back into it, until they can realize the ultimate 'Divinity' inherent within it, and all things in this lower domain, particularly relating to the Earth experience. This weird haunted planet rides the knife's edge of being an existential boot-camp for a soul to grow through, while also being an effective concentration/prison-camp for those who can't transcend their illusions. Not recommended, at any rate. Unless your soul enjoys extreme pain, or extreme pleasure morphing-into extreme pain. That seems to be the basic Program here... fun fun _fun_

I'm a Sethian Gnostic, but the differences with Valentinianism can easily be integrated into Sethian cosmology; and the classic nihilistic attitude to life has been shed by a lot of modern Sethians. Some still hang onto it, for their specific reasons. I'm personally half and half, or would rather avoid the headache by not talking about it haha. But other than that, a lot of independent Gnostic churches have been popping up all around the United States, can't say much about Europe. So it's a great day to be a Gnostic. Also along the Nag Hammadi scripture's journey, they were stored in a safety deposit box in a town in New York, no longer than twenty minutes away from where I live.

@@Qliphirot it doesn't, entirely. I know a Valentinian bishop who conducts a Gnostic mass every Sunday. What Gnostics are against is the use of spirituality to obtain political or financial power, and to stifle thought of the congregation. Gnostic masses traditionally featured the entire congregation to read scriptures or put it in their own words. A Gnostic cleric is really there to initiate baptism, marriage, or assist in a lay person's understanding of the notoriously difficult writing of the Nag Hammadi scriptures. Priests and bishops are still important to Gnosticism.

Sophia, tried to create a mate, a duality , for the father, her thought could have been that all the aeons both have a masculine and feminine counterpart, thus if I look at the result of her creation, the blind ignorant one thinking he is the supernal being, I come to the conclusion, that she wanted to create a counterpart for the father. Just a thought!

There is no question in my mind that PKD was on to something somewhere between enlightened and insane; with the upshot that he was getting or had gotten some sort of unique download. Anyone who has read his work at any depth can see that we are dealing with something like genius. He is not easy to read, often very dark, often self aware and cynical, often a product of the zeitgeist whence he formed. A Scanner Darkly is not my favorite novel of his, I found much of it to be disturbing and tedious, but it is genius nonetheless. He worked too hard, and dug himself an early grave. The Exegesis of PKD is like 1000 pages. He wrote it frantically, and wasn't meant for any eyes but his own.
