    Thanks for the video. I used your video and another to successfully replace my Timing Chain on my 2015 Equinox although I had done this repair prior on an HHR with an older version of the same motor. Only things I did slightly different is I did not cut the gasket given I had loosened the motor mount given my old gasket was the same. The crank bolt I reused and torqued to something around 90lbs with a little blue Loctite which I did on the HHR as well and drove it another 50,000 miles. The Cam bolts I bought new and followed GM's torque to yield install. I was puzzled a bit though given my crank sprocket had a washer on it that hid the timing marks. The washer was not obvious but once I slide it back my sprocket then looked like yours and others. Mine I think the tensioner failed/stuck and allowed the chain to slap the upper guide eventually breaking the plastic guide which then made a noise my daughter noticed before it had bigger issues.

    This is a wonderful video. I've always been interested in fixing cars. My dad was the neighbor mechanic, could fix anything. I teared up when you said "tinkering around" my father would say that all the time. Thank you for sharing your time, and providing this valuable information. If my father was still with us, he would not believe this could be possible. He was an old timer; still hard for him to believe he was able to take a photo and send it to someone else...

    Get yourself a 1/2 inch plyboard maybe then inch by five inch,slide it in between the oil pan and sub frame. Then you can take your motor mount off. It makes it way easier to do this job.

    Thanks for video! Do you know, what is the whole average engine life of this Ecotec 2.4 ? I've read some unsatisfied consumer reports about this engine, but there are a lot of happy comments as well. What's your opinion about this engines ? What problems can it cause during the service ? And what's actual probabiity of these problems ?

  • @tvviewer4500

    @tvviewer4500

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's a surprisingly reliable engine. The problem lies in the fact that you buy this car and it is very peculiar. You know GM could have made it perfect but they chose to make it have certain problems. It you know how to diagnose the symptoms you will have no problems. It burns oil and starts making noises that sound really bad. You have to monitor the oil and change it far more often than the oil computer monitor suggests.

    How did you know it is skipped one tooth when you change just the tensioner because? I changed just the tensioner on mine any gave me exhaust cam correlation code mass-air flaw code and the engine went to "Reduced Power" mode (barely gets to 30 mph) I think mine also skipped a tooth was it the same symptom on your car? please.

    EHAB AL AKRAWI Thanks for watching I knew because I already had the valve cover off and heard and saw the exhaust cam turn. Sounds like you may need to reset you're timing. I changed all of the timing and balance chain components. Changing just the tensioner without re-timing the engine risk you have no way of knowing if the engine is still timed correctly.

    Angel T. 3/8 & 1/2 torque wrench a high torque impact for the crank bolt as in over a 1,000 ft/lbs, 600lbs is not enough I used a 3/4 impact that has 1400ft/lbs which which did the job with ease. Also the 34mm oil filter socket for the tensioner, and the little 1/4 air drive ratchet was alsome but not required. Took me about ten hours but i also was make the video and i drop a bolt in the oil pan and had to pull the oil pan.

    You can't be at TDC on an intake stroke. It's either the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke....

  • @mtrunk8570

    @mtrunk8570

    5 жыл бұрын

    The intake stroke would be from TDC To BDC with the Intake valve open, then you would have compression BDC to TDC, Power stroke TDC to BDC, Finally your Exhaust stroke BDC to TDC with the Exhaust valve open. Of course These engines are VVT so they will have some variation but that is the basic principle of a four stroke engine. Thanks for your comment.
