Remember to turn AWD off whenever it's not needed to save fuel. It might also help with forcing the wheels to turn whenever they lock up. Generally speaking any truck with double tires (so almost all of them) at the back doesn't need AWD except to reduce excessive wheelspin.

Now that you mention it in times when on an incline if wheels lock up it would help to disengage AWD. Paying attention to where weight sits is important. Very good point! Thank you

it's one of the most underrated trucks. Its so cheap and its maximum tyre size is even bigger than that of the Fleetstar. I have many GMCs in Hard Mode and use them as support trucks

It really is. It’s a cheap truck to purchase and upgrade. It’s tires are larger than the brigadier, kodiak, and fleetstar. 47” isn’t massive, but its lift kit helps allot too. Support is a great role for this truck for sure!

Yesterday I used this truck on Black Badger Lake, loaded the trailer with 2 metal ones, a platform with a metal beam and put another one on top with a crane, in total he dragged 4 metal beams through difficult mud, yes, not without the help of a winch, but he managed, if there is a desire, then and at the end of the game you can safely operate it, you can say a good workhorse for the whole game

I agree, I mean even if you have to winch that’s still ok. This truck really is a good hauler when you get AWD. It’s not the strongest, but it gets the job done :)

I think some trucks suffer from having upgrades available too much later in the game. For example, the Kodiak makes a great early game truck. But without the AWD option, it's severely limited. Sure, empty it goes almost anywhere, but it needs to do work. The AWD option for the GMC isn't available until you get into other regions. By then you have better trucks. I'm a hoarder so I keep all my trucks, unless I can't use them until I get upgrades later. Then it s simpler to sell them until all the upgrades are collected or unlocked. But still, considering the Fleetstar gets its AWD option and locker upgrade right away, it kind of makes the GMC and Kodiak useless in early game. And they're far outclassed by better trucks later when you do get the upgrades. The Twinsteer is useless without awd, so I sold mine until I get the awd upgrade. No reason to have it otherwise.

Ya alot of trucks dont upgrade right away which turns players naturally to upgraded trucks. However, I've seen the Twinsteer break contest records without the AWD unit. Its just boils down to what the player is willing to tolerate

Well, that's why before my second go through I visited the XML file of the AWD mod for GMC 9500 and since I own the Kola DLC I simply rewrote the modification to be available without the need of finding the modfication in very late game where you honestly should have forgotten this beautiful truck long time ago... It just makes sence to me since this is a starter truck, you should able to pump maximum out of it at the beggining... and I also moved it to the heavy duty category because in my opinion it just doesn't fit amog the highway trucks especially when you unlock the AWD upgrade...

Pro : the gmc doesn’t require suspension upgrade for its largest tires. The fleet star does. This increases stability for the gmc, the suspension upgrade isn’t always do or die

Bought this truck back later ingame and now using it in Taymyr, Like the White Western Star it's very pleasurable to drive and still very capable for an early game truck in more difficult terrain.

I just used this truck w/o the AWD and Westin engines to repair all the bridges in Drummond Island. Used all local resources except the concrete blocks which weren't on the map so a very good truck, doesn't pull uphill very well and surprised how well it handled the mud holes. Hey Nathan how about some trailer reviews?

Its a good truck for sure, try using the 2nd engine on its list. Its actually more powerful than the 3rd engine. I could potentially do a trailer review sometime.

Nice! I think you’ll really enjoy that playthrough!

You can use a Tatra T813 to get the AWD module for the MH9500 right at the beginning of the game. Just takes a little patience. Fun Truck to clear Michigan with and I've been using it in Tamyr too. You can also leave the stock suspension on with the 47" tires, gives it a lower center of gravity/more stability.

Yep of that I’m well aware of. I made this in perspective of a chronological/ left to right playthrough. Jumping ahead to get things is definitely something a player could do for sure :)

I use the GMC 9500 a lot as soon as I go get the AWD from Lake Kovad with the upgraded CK1500 at rank 4 or 5 … It makes a lot of Michigan tasks much easier because of the high clearance.

Max engine plus offroad gearbox, and it was delivering all the log missions for. It also did the "winter stores" mission in one go carrying that trailer and the spare parts through the flooded entryway to the local farm and along the coast of the river only needing to winch twice because of driver error losing too much speed in high gear...all this without the AWD. TL;DR- This truck is very capable, even if you decide to play the game one region at a time.

Oh the truck is very capable for sure. The 3rd engine actually isn’t the most powerful though, oddly. The 2nd engine option actually has 5,000 more torque rating. I’m not at my computer to give you solid numbers, but I can later when I get back from work. Also you’re referring to early game which of course it is going to do well on even without AWD. From testing this in later parts; indeed it is capable and is a great truck, but it still has had some power struggles and they are backed up by the torque data. Still though it’s a really good workhorse.

@@NProvince No need, that second one was the engine I was referring to by saying "max." I just always feel the need to defend this mean little beast in its home region since so many(not you obviously) just say "no AWD means it sucks." When it is usually a case of them taking it off its home turf, and also many times a lack of driving skill that make it stop dead on its home maps. I may also have a bias as a local tow company uses one of these, and have actual footage from it's pre-towing days of it hauling logs. lol

That’s pretty sweet! Oh man, I’m a huge advocate of the US trucks on this game. So I appreciate people that value those trucks. It’s sad that so many people dislike them. I have a few friends who play the mess outta this truck and the highway trucks lol. This one really does feel like an off-road class though

It's still my #1 well rounded most used vehicle

First order of Business when starting a New savefile -sell any truck -move to Kola -Buy a capable scout -Get the AWD upgrade -recover -Sell scout -Go back to Michigan I always get the upgrade right away it makes life in Michigan so much easier

The Chevrolet 1500 is more than enough for Michigan and the Fleetstar is also very capable and teaches you many game mechanics 😅😜 I use highway trucks for simple delivery missions or for resupplying my other vehicles at long distances

You can get the awd upgrade at the very start of the game i got to it using a completely stock chevy ck1500 the only upgrade i had was all terrain tires that had a good rating in mud

Ya know I'm not sure, I really like the DLC trucks level requirement upgrades. I think alot of trucks should have those instead of discovered upgrades

In my opinion the high range gear box works way better for this truck. I think it's the higher revs and lack of rev cap.

The high range does allow for more power outflow to axles. If it works better for you then I would say it’s a good pick, however and increase rev cap means more fuel burn, but it won’t be too big of a deal based on distance traveled but I thought I would just mention that.

Its a good truck, i dunno why ppl sell it off. I left it in my garage til level 6 to get the off road tires and it served me well so far as a crane and tanker truck. Still i wouldnt trust it as a mud truck

It is a good truck. After upgrading to Allterains at level 6 helps alot. I think a alot of people just want to fly through things without a challenge. The AWD upgrade really brings this thing alive though.

Hey Nathan, I know this is a very old video, but I've been trying to find out what the top engine's torque is for this truck. Maybe you'd know? I'm guessing it's maybe around 100k?

Good question. Soo the Westline V6 2420 is 140k torque and has pretty good durability, but the better engine torque is the Si-6V/2100T at 145k torque and it’s a lil better on gas. Only thing it’s not as durable.

i know im 2 years late to this video, but I just came back to the game after a long break. I remembered how useless this truck felt when i played years ago. this time around i saw that it had AWD as a later unlock so i said to hell with it and put some offroad tires on it in decided to keep it until i get the upgrade. I have to say, this thing can really surprise you. I have done some outright stupid things in this truck, and it just sort of keeps on going. For example, i got cocky and got the fleetstar wedged into some really deep mud with water up above the hood. so I went and pulled it out with the GMC. It required way too much time, a ton of fuel, and near constant winch usage. Still though, it saved the day without AWD. Not the Best truck in the game, but Im keeping mine from now on.

Thats awesome that you have come back and given this truck another chance. All those things are very true, its still not the best, but it really has become a good truck just from that upgrade

I have tried to utilize it but it just happens to be too weak. Fully loaded bed with trailer and crane and he won't make it up a hill without the winch.

Alot of trucks arent gonna make it up hills when loaded. Im not sure how much you had on this truck, but it can feel underpowered under huge amounts of weight. Its just a truck that can handle the lighter trips. Im glad you tried it.

@@NProvince I loaded it with cement. The wheels just won't bother moving as you stated. As with the fleetstar I did not have this problem.

@@UnknownUser-wd6yf Ya you will have lock ups under heavy conditions. The fleet has less occurances of this because its engine has higher torque.

Lol everytime I would try to customize one of these trucks my game would crash. I had two mh9500s and couldn't use them lol

Disliked this truck at the beginning of my game, but now it’s one of my main workhorses since I got awd.

In the video yes, I move pretty quick for a more exciting experience than watching low+ for viewers. However the files show a lot of weight set higher making it objectively prone to tipping.

use a "upgrade unlock" mod to use this amazing truck to its fullest in the firt easier maps, caue lts be honest no one will ever use this truck at its best cofiguration because until then u will buy the rusian op trucks which are mostly better even stock. i finnished both first maps in michigan completelly with gmc , its amazing and fun fully upgraded and i would have never used this truck without the unlock upgrades mod, which is a shame.

That’s a pretty nifty tool there. I actually don’t use any mods anymore. I’m just strictly a guy who plays the game chronologically for a challenge. The GMC is actually a pretty good truck, I think people just jump to Russian trucks because of patience. I really enjoy some of the less used vehicles

@@NProvince well i jumped to the russians because i never saw the sense of jumping to harder maps just to unlock upgrades for trucks i would never use after early game in michigan. imo the upgrades for the 3 beginner trucks should be at the first 2 michigan maps , that would make sense as they are the weakest trucks u will ever drive and it doesnt make sense to put such hard restrictions. because the devs robbed me of the joy to use this beginer trucks, where they make sense, aka early game, i use a mod to make them viable. without this upgrades only superhardcore players will try to get all upgrades and use the trucks for no real reason.

The GMC is absolute crap in hard mode.
