GMA T.33 | evo UNWRAPPED

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The GMA T.50 shook the industry when it was revealed last year, so how do you follow it up? Adam Towler sat down with GMA founder Gordon Murray to explore the finer points of its new brother - the T.33 - a supercar Murray’s had in his head for the last 25 years.

    I don't know if it's the bland silver or the lack of almost zero ducts or vents but something's off about this design to me. It's almost like its too clean a body panel to evoke the striking presence reminiscent of a 60s sports cars like let's say a Lamborghini Miura (which in my opinion is one of the most prettiest cars ever made). Like I know it's a conscious choice by Gordon Murray to have nothing of form without function but maybe that's the problem. All the beautiful cars of the 60s have design cues that were mainly for aesthetic purposes like the eyelashes on the Miura. It may not serve any function but boy does it accentuate those headlights. So sometimes ducts, vents or fake aero just makes a car look better. So the T33 looks almost naked in that sense. Also another design choice I didn't like is the drivers seat being colored while the passenger seat is just black. I get it, I know it's a driver focused car and all that but this one is a conventional 2 seater sports car so both seats should look the same. This one here just breaks the symmetry. It made sense on the T50 and the Mclaren F1 because that was a 3 seater layout and the middle seat getting the color treatment enhanced the look and feel of the car giving it that fighter jet aesthetic. But a conventional car deserves a conventional interior color pattern I feel. The T33 is like the equivalent of a woman who has a beautiful face with good bone structure but is struck with cancer and she got no hair anywhere on her head or face. It's a weird analogy I know but I hope it drives home the point.

    @@imranvp :) very nicely said. I think your reaction and perspective are more than fair. I found the T 50 to be somewhat odd if not off. However less so with this model. That said I know what you mean and it's like it is too clean. I would prefer this over the 50 on looks alone. Cheers!

  • @srinitaaigaura

    @srinitaaigaura

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well I must agree that the F1 does look better than the T50 overall and even T33. It will never age. I wish he could have penned the T50s outer shape. Gordon styles very well, but he is more function than form. It's that extra little touch that someone else brings to give the car that perfect look. What Stevens really talks about in the T50 is this -- the front end is super low from the scuttle while the back haunches up higher. Something that you don't see on the T33. It's practical but if you see the Goodwood video, it does give the T50 a certain dive forward look, like it's always leaning a bit forward, something not on the F1. The T33 however looks perfect in side profile. I don't know, but the T50 could have gone for wheels an inch smaller, but the engineers are the experts.

    It is very reminiscent of 1960s cars. But I started thinking about the appearance of a car and why it is important. Surely one of the primary reasons is that you can identify it. A 911 has that side profile that is like no other. A Countach cannot be mistaken for anything else. Ferrari's have certain hallmark elements. A Range Rover has its shape. The F1 was like nothing before it. But if you take elements from a variety of different predecessors, like the targa B pillars, then regardless of beauty, what is it?

    Actually, this is the type of supercar the world needs today as we are going further in car electrification and complication. Now supercars from major manufacturers are overcomplicated with EV parts, weight about 2 tons, fast but not thrilling and look ridiculous. Moreover, since there is no competition with high power EVs for mere acceleration we just need fun cars that are superlight, nimble, handle amazingly and speak directly to a driver without any excessive complication. The T.33 is just that. I just hope there will be more affordable cars with the same approach before the 'green' agenda kills ICE completely.

    I love Gordan Murray's thought process but almost all of his cars look the same. Everything seems modeled from the McLaren F1

    It's not so much 'modelled' around the McLaren F1, it's just that with his school of thought, his style of packaging and sense of proportion results in a similar result with each of his mid-engined performance cars.

    Gordon is a designer that actually knows what car enthusiasts actually want because he is one!! If all your after is 0 to 60 and 4 figure hp stats then your not a car guy your a show off with too much money 😂

    Yea bud, people that don't like the same stuff as you aernt car guys. It's also incredibly ironic you say "your a show off with too much money". When both the cars have 600 hp and we'll over a million euro... these cars are quite literally for people who want high horse power expensive cars... and let's be honest, most will sit in a garage for the rest of their lives, a small handful will go to actual car enthusiasts

Everything he said is still ironic as these are exactly the high horsepower expensive cars that sit in garages that he mentioned. People who want a proper driving experience aernt paying 1.5m euro for this lmfao, these are mostly just going to garage ornaments, stop being naive
