    An endgame like that is a draw. They only play it out to see who can flag who. It's easy to make safe premoves in that situation.

    @@unknownanalyst5576 he still wouldn't draw because mate can legally occur as both would have king and bishop (there would be no forced mate but still the game would go on and the timer would keep running)

    Lol the pawn was hanging for the last like 10 seconds, he could have drawn Edit: Nvm I just tested this on Lichess against the computer; if white takes the pawn and gets flagged black still wins since checkmate can still occur legally (even though it obviously can’t be forced).

    I don't think it's an automatic draw because it is possible to be checkmated with incorrect play

    For example black king on a8, black bishop on b8, white king on b6, white bishop on b5 with white to move is mate in 1

    @@leonardoventura9641 what? No its litterely impossible to be checkmated, opposite color bishops vs king is a draw if there are no pawns, since once the king moves to the opposite color you litterely cant do anything, so lichess will auto draw it

    There's sequence of legal moves, that leads to a checkmate. Therefore under Fide rules the player who timed out loses.

    They had less than 30 seconds of the total at the starting, but Andrew Tang can travel in time so that didn't really matter.

    This is why I don’t play blitz. It’s no longer chess, it’s who can beat the clock first. Maybe GMs like to play this, but for a commoner like me, normal classic chess is more fun.
