    Awesome explanation. Well done bud! You even got Xary's valentines swing in the backyard! Also loved how your daughter was so enthusiastic of some more mods.

    Thanks for the video. I've got an 06 1500 Z71 and working on swapping axles myself now. I don't think a lot of this would apply since yours is a 2500 but still good stuff. Subscribed!

    I am glad you bring that up! Okay so in your case you have a four link suspension in the rear and as a result the rear frame section is actually skinnier by a few inches. It can be converted to leaf springs with a couple adapters (i forget who makes them but i have seen them) there basically drop shackle mounts that bolt on in the rear that make up the width difference and normal shackle brackets forward. If you want to keep the four link then custom brackets are needed to be welded onto the axle. Leaf springs are easier but 4 link is doable as well. Good kuck!! And thank you for watching and commenting!!

    @@TheRenaissanceBuilder I did some more digging and think I'm going to go a slightly different route. The GMT 900 Avalanche/Burb/Yukon etc had coil spring mounted 14 bolts with 6 lug. They're only the 9.5" ring gear but it should still be a decent upgrade over the little 10 bolt. I'm also swapping to a Dana 44 for the front end. Only going for 35's, not 40's. We've already taken ours through so much and it's surprisingly capable for a stock minivan.

    I have an 05 suburban 2500 too, did you have to shorten or lengthen the driveshaft? Being a 4x4 make a difference?

  • @TheRenaissanceBuilder

    @TheRenaissanceBuilder

    7 ай бұрын

    You wont hafto change the driveshaft, the pinion length is within an inch so the slipyoke can take up the difference. 4x4 should not make a difference. The biggest difference are the ubolts, shock mounts, and the 1410-1350 u joint

    I have a 2012 GMC sierra 4x4 2500 automatic transmission with the 14 bolt G-80 locker 3:73 posi. I want to swap out the G-80 for a older model 14 bolt posi. What year model would interchange with the one I have ? Thanks

    That is a good question, and to be honest i am not the most knowledgeable person for all this but ill tell you what i know. I the suburbans came with a 9.5” 14bolt similar to some van models. As far as im aware the center section is unique to that axle. The saginaw 9.5” started in the 70s with at least 4 variations. The thing with the locker is a bit more specific. The only “govlock” ive seen in the 9.5 is the gyroscopic version (weights that fly out from a spining shaft to engage posi). However the aftermarket support for that axle is pretty stout so everything from 200$+ lunchbox locker on up to arb. Also the govlock isn’t as bad as the internet makes it out, if rebuilt and set up correctly with proper maintenance there actually really good for stock rigs.

    So, now do you have 6-bolt rims on the front and 8-bolt rims on the rear?

  • @TheRenaissanceBuilder

    @TheRenaissanceBuilder

    Since i started with a 2500 the bolt battern of 8x6.5 stayed the same so that was actually convenient. Also the 1500 of the gmt800 are link rear suspension so that conversion would be allot more difficult.

    Are you supposed to use axle grease on axle bearings? It’s not a trailer wheel; as i understand it the axle bearings are lubricated by gear oil. Remember that oil that came out when you removed the axle? That stuff. So i think you’re supposed to lube the axle bearing with gear oil, not axle grease.

    You know i think you may be correct. I didn’t look it up when I started i just went by my old fashioned ways so thats my mistake. Fortunately i have been driving on it consistently with no trouble so i may be lucky.

    Suggestion when you say stuff like stock axle say what the stock axle was that you took out 🙂 I'll check out more of your vids but when someone drops in on a random video they have no idea what your working with to start with. I'm going to take a guess that it started as a 6.0 powered 2500 burb . good luck not trying to be negative just giving suggestions to make you videos even better

  • @TheRenaissanceBuilder

    It does not. It is a “truck axle”, i could not find much data on the stock axle but i think its a 12 bolt. Stronger than a ten but not nearly as strong and serviceable as a 14, not to mention the plethora of parts for the 14 while there’s barely anything available for the “12”
