some important highlights when when swapping in a 2wd 14 bolt semi float into a 1500 chevy.
-swap the 10 bolts yoke onto the 14 bolt
-you CAN reuse the factory springs
-you CAN use the factory brake lines and emergency lines.
-make sure you use the 14 bolt's clamshell for the Ubolts.

I did this swap on my 1995 Chevy k1500, I swapped the yoke but left the dust sheld, it is the exact same diameter as the outside of the seal/case. I swapped my brake lines at the pumpkin, that tiny square on the braket that bolts to diff cover. And that is false on the 2wd to 2wd and 4wd to 4wd, I got my 14 bolt out of a 1992 C2500, I got lucky it was 6 lug so I could use my factory tires

He probably got a light duty 2500 14 bolt as it has the semi floater (I believe) and the 6 lug hubs rather than the 1 ton 8 lug it’s also a closer width to the 2wd trucks so it’s a ideal one fs the same one you featured in the video

Any problems with pinion seal? I did a 14 bolt swap into my OBS, like you I swapped the 10 bolt yoke onto the 14 bolt. I put a new seal on but it’s leaking. I used a 14 bolt seal, do you think I should have used a 10 bolt seal? Or same shit & I fucked up the install? 😅 Bc also my seal doesn’t sit flush Lmk what you think

Since i installed the 14 bolt wirh a 10 bolt yoke i haven't had any issues with leaks. That being said i am missing the dust shield which lead the rust build along the shaft that normally had a shied on it. No leaks though. I do need to inspect it again as i normally do when i can.

The spring perches will need to be moved, and you have to account for the overall width of the differential compared to the original. Amoung other small differences

I swapped my 10-bolt differential with a 14-bolt but when I put the 4x4 on the front or rear wheels they feel like they are getting stuck when I turn, what could be the problem? or what did I do wrong? both differentials are 3.73 please comment to help!

Well there is a few things that could be going wrong. One thing is that if you have a locking differential it might be doing just that. Its locked therefor both tires are stuck spinning at the same speed when they should be spinning independently. Usually they unlock by themselves. Secondly, when using 4x4, dont try to drive on solid surfaces such as concrete. You can use 4x4 while on concrete but only while going in a straight line. My 1994 blazer did what you are describing during the snow storm down south but it would only do what you mentioned once i left the ice patches and drove on solid, nonfrozen concrete. Finally i would double check to see if your brakes arnt seizing. You can do this by lifting the rear axle and spinning both tires individually and see if there is a difference in resistance

If the 14 bolt came off a k2500 then it would work. If it came off a c2500 then it would technically work but the dimensions would be off. If your current axel housing is still good you can probably send it to a shop for a rebuild and install an eaton trutrac.

I might but the spring perches might need to be moved and you need to account for the width difference between axles. If the new axle is too wide then it might make the rear wheels stick out. Also the driveshaft yoke maybe be offset compared to the original

  • @Edgar-and-Wrench

    6 ай бұрын

Yes, actually, most people want the SS rearend. The 454SS came with a 14 bolt semi float rear end just like the one i swapped into mine. The big difference is thst the 454 came in a 5 lug pattern where as the one i used is a 6 lug pattern which forces you to change out the front disc brakes into 6 lug from the original 5 lug pattern. Other than that, it is a plug and play swap. Just make sure that your 1991 obs is also 2WD.

  • @Edgar-and-Wrench

    @Edgar-and-Wrench

    6 ай бұрын

@OBSKEV hmm you can lift up the rear end with a floor jack until both tires are in the air. If its a posi differential both tires will spin in the same direction. If its not then one tire will spin forward and one backwards. There are different type of differentials so it may not behave in the way that i described it. I suggest you look on youtube how to ID if a differential is a posi or not because youll see that there will be different ways in which the tires can spin. If i were to sell my truck there would be no way for the next owner to know that i have a eaton trutrac in the differential unless they pulled the cover off or spun the wires in the air. A burnout would tell you if it has an upgraded differential because if you see a 1 wheel peel then its obvious that there isnt any upgrades in the differential.
