Since we are going to be swapping the GMC Sierra 4.3 V6 to a 5.3 V8 I decided the old rear end was not going to work. The old rear end was a open differential with a 3.42 gear ratio. I wanted a posi rear and my parts truck actually had a good G80 locking diff with a 3.73 gear ratio. In Todays video I show you how to pull it out of a donor truck, clean up and swap to another. In the process I also change the rear differential fluid in the g80 and upgrade to a ta rear end cover. The TA or rear end cover is WAY more sturdy and looks SO MUCH better. This process is the Same on GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado.

This diff is better then the spring loaded diffs the block style for lock up is better for longevity and before you worry about differential transmission needs to be built first before anything the 4L60 Is super weak and doesn’t like anything over 6000 rpm shifts so if you plan on a camshaft or stall converter the transmission needs building or don’t shift past 5900

are we doing warm over mods first or v8 in truck then we warm it over? G80 isnt bad for a street truck. i think the other is the G86 is the LSD which I think is a helical gear style? Travis, is there a benefit to do the rear end swap on the V6 if i don't want to do the v8 swap? Like I said on your last video I just got an 03 silverado v6 but I've noticed it has rear disk brakes. I thought only the 4x4 models had rear disk. Am I wrong? The thing sits up way to high and I'm assuming the previous owners did a complete 4x4 suspension swap.
