Glynis Johns was wonderful in Miranda and Mad About Men from 1948 and 1954 . . . They were light comedies about a mermaid . . . she was so adorable and quirky! And that Voice! . . . made the movies.

I absolutely agree with you about her performance in those films - she was adorable. I've also seen her on the West End stage in London and she was never less than an absolute star.

i had not thought of her outside of Mary Poppins and then i watched While You Were Sleeping and i recognized her i felt proud :)

I wish the original show of ALNM was videotaped or filmed!

Glynis Johns is still very much alive (and will be 85 on Sunday!!). Don't know where she is. The last I saw of her was in the Documentary on the 40th Anniversary DVD of POPPINS. I was surprised they were able to interview her. It made the DVD!

Glynis had a “good run”, as they say. I posted this 15 years ago. Visited Glynis a few times in the last 10 years at her retirement home in LA right near the Hollywood Bowl. She was a sweet lady who will long be remembered.

Yes. I also have Sonheim accepting for Company in 1970 as well as Maureen's Stapleton's great speach that year. Maybe I'll post them-- when I find them!

Ha! The orchestra sounds like they're doing a bump and grind stripper version of "Send in the Clowns".

Hal prince was genius. The revival of night music was ok. Bernadette Peters was great, but Glynis Johns does the songs best. Saw new evita last week. Came home and watched Mandy and patti and what Hal prince did 40 years ago. Watching kinky boots on pbs. What has happened to New York theater? It’s crap, though the first act of Evan Hansen floored me.

This is when award shows were characterized by grace, dignity, and refinement.

She was a good actress and good singer but not excellent even though winning the Tony.

That's Jerry Orbach better know as Lenny Briscoe (Law & Order) announcing the award. He's also a Tony winner for Lead Actor in a Musical / Promises, Promises.
