Lovely 4-flight arrow sign but must have been exactly from 1933 as it mentions Cockfosters which didn't open until July of that year. Nice! Well done guys, another great episode.

What a great episode I say in my down-under drawl

In August last year we stayed at the underground themed Ibis Styles in Cromwell Rd for several nights, so Gloucester Rd was briefly our “local” station, in fact the first city station (excluding Heathrow) that we used. Amazing how much we didn’t see even though we used it, both District/Circle and Piccadilly, several times a day for a number of days.

I would to thank you all for the great work that all 4 of you do to keep the history of the London underground alive. I came across you site by accident and I've enjoyed going back over your old broadcast that you done in the past 6 years. I am a retired motorman from the Toronto Transit Commission, although our subway only started in 1952, and we do have a few secrets that the public have no knowledge about or walk past every day. Our first trains that I learn to operate where made in Gloucester England, which are no longer in service, I enjoyed my work in the subway and miss it very much. Keep up the good work , can't wait to see your next episodes. Yours David Gibson, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The sub-surface station reminded me of Waterloo station, where they have the Elephant. And the spiral staircase to the deep level, with the green tiles, reminded me of Goods, er sorry, Goodge Street station. Also, the 'Baker Street curve' reminded me of the Paris Métro corridors.

Thank you! My very first ride on the tube was on the eastbound Piccadilly line from there in 1975. I can still remember the original lifts as well.

Yes, the original lifts with the lattice gates were all over the Underground at one time. The last surviving examples were the ones at Aldwych, which closed in 1994. (Gloucester Road's Piccadilly platforms were temporarily closed for about a year in mid 1987 when the lifts there were replaced).

Way better art installation than the car that went on a engineers train from Ruislip one night I was on night's at Rayners Lane cabin!

After several weeks I have finally caught up with every episode. Thank you all for the work you put into the making of each of the Hangouts I love the history of the stations and the way the network has changed and adapted over the years. Even though I live in the Midlands you have altered the way I will look at Underground stations on future visits to London. Congratulations to Sid on her recent marriage and looking forward to Series 3 of Secrets of the London Underground.

How do you spell “Tallulah” though? I’m used to the version with the double L because of Go-Betweens album, but I know that’s a bit of a niche reference point.

@@Extreme_Rice Both spellings seem to be in use. The actress Tallulah Bankhead used double l (as did the 'moll' character in Bugsy Malone, lol), but Talulah Riley spells her name with one.

I can’t believe how lucky I am. Watching my favourite channel whilst in 28 degC in my favourite holiday destination Sitges whilst on the roof terrace. I don’t think I can top this. Your content is fascinating. Thank you.

Another awesome video! I've noticed the same thing with the ticket hall tiles at Holloway Road Station, the plain green tiles below the border of Pomegranate Tiles are a completely different shade of green. Seems to be something that was done originally 😊.

Nice film, used to use that tune station part from time to time when I first came to live at Knightsbridge 1983-1985, never realised that there were hidden parts.

This reminds me of Hammersmith Station, two stations within walking distance but built differently. Well done Guys.

I always get more of a kick out of the references to “The Key, The Secret” then I probably should. It always brings that song to mind. Also, Siddy’s Australian accent was quite good.

@35:35: "Perc"...lol...PERC, Perchloroethylene, Tetrachloroethylene although banned today as a dry cleaning fluid for clothes for the general population in most nations, it's still used extensively in industry. It's not nice stuff, but it's very effective when rebuilding mechanical devices to strip away the grease to relube them. It's used in 'brake cleaner' (automotive) and in 'contact cleaner' for electronics. Unfortunately, the less toxic workplace replacements tend to eat plastic, or at the least, badly mar the surfaces of finished plastic lenses, etc.

How hadn't I discovered these before? I am binge watching! I love this one because I have stayed nearby this station when going to gigs to the Royal Albert Hall. Good memories!

Loved the green tiles at the start of the video and it was lovely to see the ladies on camera. Is the jacket onto of the orange high viz a new trend from Alex then. Are your tours disabled friendly, as some of the places seem difficult to navigate on your video's. Thank you once again for showing us the hidden gems of the underground.

Loved this one. Often used to use Gloucester Road when I was a student - seems it has quite a different feel now it’s covered over with another building compared with back then when it was open air. Golly, that was a long time ago now! Many thanks, Team.

Love Gloucester Rd station it was a short walk from where I lived and used it everyday great memories of living in London.

Tiffany Tripod - a very stable character, who works without complaint in some hostile environments.

When siddy shouted out tooting it made me think off tootina for the tripod

A great episode as usual and a fascinating insight as is the norm. This was episode 10 which I hope doesn't mean the end of series 7 but if it is would you consider a 'look back' episode similar to what you did in the first series to wrap everything up and answer some of the more interesting questions left in the comments section during the current run? Also would you consider re-examining stations you couldn't visit during the pandemic for the odd 'deeper dig'? And, yes, station visits are brilliant but will there ever be 'special' episodes again where you go further afield, say to a steam railway or an episode on moquette (the best for me is the silvery grey 'please offer this seat' Barman you now find on the Jubilee line) or episodes featuring signs and posters which have always proven popular in the past.

Always wanted to watch a Hidden London Hangouts and finally managed to watch my very first one. Really impressed with the video and love some of the hidden areas of Gloucester Road Station.

My office was opposite the station next to pedestrian crossing. First Floor 81a...5 years 1975 to 1980.

@mozdickson Ranger Travel...we handled group and individual clients. Specialised in football for teams and fans. Also some tours for music groups and so called stars. Highlights ..holding European Cup..we borrowed it from Nottingham Forest for a reunion event. Served bankruptcy notice on one person when he delayed payment for his group's European tour. Ronnie Wood was one of the band..the main person's name is usually prefixed with strong F words...even now. Lots of other memories..personal and business. Gloucester Road had the first KFC in London.

My first ever London trip I stayed at the Montana Hotel (highly recommend ), just diagonal to Gloucester station, so it remains my favorite tube station. You never forget your first love, they say...lol And is the "Pond Life" exhibit going to feature Amy, Rory and The Doctor?..😜

I think you should call it Trixie Tripod.

@27:15: Those globe lights are wonderful. Now here's an interesting question that bears elsewhere too: Are the bulbs actually incandescent, or fluorescent or LED ones? The answer would be revealing (pun intended) as if 'faux' bulbs, they manage to capture the warmth and atmosphere of the times gone by. That lends itself for me to say: 'You don't need modern, harsh lighting to ensure safety'. Overall, what an extremely pleasant place. I suspect there's still large areas you were unable to show.

The former pair of Eastbound platforms also used to accommodate the express District line trains nonstop from Earls Court to Sloane Square. That was in the 50s. Sorry I don’t remember if there were westbound expresses too! The pinch point was (and still is) where clockwise Circle Line trains cross the eastbound track from Earls Court to Gloucester Road.

18:00 I had no idea that the edge of platform 4 was anywhere near as close to the train as it is. Makes perfect sense of course, should there be something wrong with the doors on the other side. Wouldn't it be a good idea to reinstate the fourth track and platform to thereby allow for double the amount of train traffic to future - proof it?

I love the hangouts so much! Have you thought about a trip to Glasgow, they have a disused tube station and some wartime bomb damage.

43-ish minutes in, we see 'Gloucester Road' embedded into tiles on the platform wall, and there is essentially a decorative colon (one dot per tile) preceding the word 'Gloucester'. Does the dot sit on the same part of the tile in all instances, meaning that the tile could be mass-utilised for all stations with that decoration? Probably the most painfully nerdy question I've ever asked.

Great video as always informative and great knowledge. Getting the train from Notting Hill Gate a number of times and always wondered why the old platform 4 at Gloucester Road was never used. Now i know why and the same at South Kensington. Loving the work and the channel. 😁

87 steps is the equivalent, of course of fifteen storeys, but actually of FIVE storeys (90 steps of 17 cm, with 18 steps per storey, in a depth of 15.3 metres). -- So actually, these 87 steps are the equivalent (more or less) to FIFTEEN metres! --

11:30 As requested, here's a question for you. What is the rather splendid bronze coloured "Mess room" I think Siddy calls it in a bit, please? The curvaceous pavilion which crosses platforms 1 & 2 and more to the point, is it original? If not, full marks London UndergrounD for a beautiful bit of whimsy.

Holland Park is mostly new at platform level, put in during its closure in 2016! It was 1950s jaundice yellow before then (lot of photos to be found like that). And I believe a lot of the surface building exterior has been replaced. Looks great as a CLR replica though, convinces a lot of passengers. Nice 1930s 'Way Out' lightbox survives.

The salamander under that arch - instead of the arch to the left - is an OCD nightmare ! All the other exhibits are every other arch, then it skips two. Aaaaarggh !! Lol.

Did anyone else notice that when they were standing on the bridge looking down at the tracks, that the building behind them looked very much like a train carriage.

Fail - London Transport museum. Went to buy a gift voucher for my son at 5:30 pm and despite the fact the fact that they say they are open until 6 pm ticket office was closed. Staff were very unhelpful and the manager was condescending.
