Thank you for a panoramic view of Kashi and the long history of this great city. As Meenakshi ji points out, it is to the great credit and foresight of India's ancient Hindu rulers, as well as 18th century rulers like the Marathas, that they undertook great efforts to protect the spiritual, dharmic core of Kashi, despite all the islamic invasions and the desecration of Hindu temples. Meenakshi ji rightly emphasized that their wanton destruction was not just for the wealth of the temples but driven by strong bigotry against sanatana dharma. The mention of the role of scholars like Narayana Bhatt ( during Mughal ruler, Jalaluddin's time- and let's use their actual names instead of glorified titles) including his descendants (of Narayana Bhatt), to the present day, and their dedication to preserving the spiritual greatness of Kashi and Ayodhya, as well as its Vedic sanatana traditions, was fascinating! That lineage, and the 6 families like them, deserve to be recognized with a Bharat Ratna!
