Glock 26 Gen 5 Gun Review

Спорт

The Glock 26 is a revered subcompact semiautomatic pistol, and for good reason.
This polymer-framed, striker-fired, double-stack 9mm handgun is ultralight, compact, highly concealable, and eminently reliable.
The new Gen 5 update to the 23-year-old design adds a number of features that improve its usability over the previous Gen 4. A flat frontstrap of the grip and a flat and smooth trigger face improve ergonomics, while a fully ambidextrous slide lock/release make the gun more accessible and better for emergency manipulations. The internal trigger mechanism is ever so slightly improved for a better trigger pull, and a few internal components have been redesigned to improve durability and resistance to wear and failure. Similarly, the new nDLC finish on the slide should provide better corrosion resistance and the new crowning of the muzzle will protect the barrel from accidental dings.
Overall, a great update, and highly recommended if you're new to the Glock lineup.

The Heckcat on paper makes more sense, but I get the feeling this is more shootable. When you need to make that 40 yd shot at the food court. I need this gun.

The 26 was a double stacked micro 9 before Double Stacked micro 9s were even a thing. Just because she’s a little thick don’t count her out. I have used +2 mag extensions since I bought my 26 back in 2000. It’s been a great gun, and very dependable. I’d love a Gen 5, but there is nothing wrong with my Gen 3 so I’m not that interested.

you get extra points for using the word dingus, lol. I completely agree that the grip angle doesn't bother me as much because the 26 grip is so short. To me, I feel like the gen 5 triggers are a significant improvement over the previous

My wife has the gen 4, me, the gen 3, she's happy with hers, and me, with mine. We both do not like the little short , stock mags, instead, we've bought the +2, it's really the way to go, this way we've got 12 +1, instead of just 10+1. More is better, also the pinky finger adds some needed security!

That was the best review I've seen on any of the Gen 5's. It's just mazing how many long reviews I've seen on KZread that never even mention things like the trigger serrations being gone or the striker's different shape.

I'll stick with my Gen 4. I like the finger groove and prefer the old style slide release. Plus most of the parts I have stockpiled from previous Gen 2 and 3 Glocks can still be used. Nice review.

The frame has always matched the bevel on the G26 and G27. I have a G27 gen 3 and I once owned a G26 gen 3, and they were the same. Beveled slide and frame.

The 19 and 26 are where everyone should start with glocks, imo. However single stackers do feel better for some. (42 or 43)

The gen 5 triggers are amazing. The wall is still there but much smoother to break. I never liked the gen 3/4 triggers. New shooters would hit the wall and instinctively apply more pressure than needed to break it because of how much resistance they felt. On occasion even experienced shooters pull shots because of it. Hence trigger jobs and polishing. With the gen 5, you don't need a trigger job or even a polish. It already feels amazing out the box.

Good review. I know you're not alone in saying the Gen5 trigger is better. I've had six Glocks gens 3, 4, and now 5. My Glock 26 Gen4 and Glock 33 Gen4 both had a better shooting trigger (i.e. less front sight disruption, thought I did not get much at all from the Gen5, but I have to concentrate a little more). The difference is minimal, but certainly, for me, the Gen4's are slightly better shooters in my opinion, but not by much. I think it's on par with my Gen4 G19 and they're all better than my Gen3 G19 in my opinion. Certainly my Gen4's had the most solid wall (without having to think about it). My quasi-made-in-the-USA Gen5 G26 breaks depending on how you approach it. I can apply just enough torque to roll through the break more like a revolver (or better yet, more like the NY1/NY2 mod), or I can take up the slack with a little less force to stop at the wall immediately, and then pull the trigger more quickly to create a crisp wall. You can really do that with any Glock, but this seems to favor rolling through the break slightly more than the Gen4's (but it's not a problem). So in my opinion, my Gen5 trigger is NOT better for accuracy. What I will say is that the trigger in the Gen5 is indeed safer. People thought I was crazy saying that, but Massad Ayoob backed me up in May noticing the same thing (without knowing my opinion of course). It seems the take-up is a little heavier, so it's a little more consistent (like an NY1/NY2 mod). In other words, weight of the pretravel is closer to the weight of the trigger break to create a slightly more consistent trigger pull from start to finish (but not by much). What this does, however, is make it harder to inadvertently depress the trigger. I have a test I do where I swipe the trigger briskly from the side across the trigger guard to see if the trigger will break (simulating something that got part way into the trigger guard if I dropped the pistol or it rubbed against something. I can depress every Gen3 and Gen4 trigger I've ever tested this way, but I cannot do this with the Gen5. Mass is a stigler for this. He modifies every Glock with the NY1 or NY2 mod, but he said for the first time he doesn't feel the need with the Gen5 and I agree.

Interesting points. Makes sense, and I agree about the difference in the wall. I actually happen to prefer less of a stiff, defined wall (see how I rave about Kahr triggers, haha), so it makes sense I like the Gen 5 better. Thanks for the inpu!

A lot of people used to carry the "sub compact" *Glock 26* _I used to have three (3)_. BUT... Now that the *_Glock 42_* (.380ACP) & the *_Glock 43/43X_* are out the *Glock 26 is fading away.* As if it was the great General Douglas MacArthur , it may not die completely but it will be bought less & less as it _- is too big &_ _- has less fire power_ in compassion to today's modern small pistols. *Here is the WHY* (just one reason among many) I just took a CCW/CHP class to get a concealed carry license and almost every one in our class of 12 had a Glock 43, Glock 43X, a S&W Shield, one guy had a 1903 colt .380ACP hammerless, and one guy had Beretta 92FS Compact Type M 9mm. Before these true sub compact guns there would have been more Glock 26s and similar. *RIP Glock 26* 2020 is a new day & decade, the new generation of very small & thin 9mm dominate, some like the Springfield Hellcat, SIG P360/P36oXL overpower the G26 by carrying more bullets. Stay frosty

@@sweetcostarica I never said it sold THE MOST, i could of told you exactly what you spent the time to type out... I just stated it sold quite well from all the hype lately about the G26.5 MOS. I'm pretty active on armslist and have seen more ppl selling their subcompacts in search for something different or trades....including for specifically G26s..... If these latest and greatest subcompacts were so good why are ppl selling or trading them off..... Not sure what argument you are trying to start....but you came off as a fuckin douche lol. I'll always encourage someone to stick with what they know unless they absolutely like something and become proficient with it. A gun like the G26 has DECADES worth of reliability, GOOD accuracy and ppl trust it as a CCW weapon.... Sure it might not sell as good as the newer G43/43x but some ppl always seem to be drawn back to it...

The DLC coating doesn’t hold up as well as the previous coatings. After 80 rounds the finish on the barrel was wearing off. Other than that I love my G26 Gen-5 and use the large beavertail backstrap.
