Global Tipping Points of the Cryosphere: Greenland, Antarctica, Sea Ice at both Poles, Permafrost

Ғылым және технология

In this video, I continue to chat about the report “Global Tipping Points”: global-tipping-points.org/
I cover the Report Sections from Page 31 to 77. This includes sections on introducing Positive Tipping Points. I also cover the so-called Negative Tipping Points (Earth System Tipping Points) for the cryosphere, specifically for Greenland and Antarctica, Arctic and Antarctic sea ice, alpine glaciers, and permafrost (both on land and subsea, ice-rich and ice-poor).
I am delving into the details and the figures, since this report is vital to inform people from all walks of life about the huge risks of “negative tipping points” in the Earth system that we are fast approaching, some likely already crossed.
I find that making a detailed video really helps reinforce my own knowledge base on this very important topic.
Equally, or arguable more importantly humans have agency to transform society via “positive tipping points”, but these require governance and human agency to occur. At the moment, there is no global governance organization or even recognition by most governments and policy makers on the need for quickly establishing this global governance.
Time is a wasting…
Enjoy…

I watch the weather, both by weather.gov & look out the window. Each and every day the temp is greater than what is predicted. Sometimes close to ten degrees greater. When one ponders the word exponential it makes one know. When scientist nick named the Thwaites glacier the Dooms day Glacier it seams more likely than not. Fossil fuel is much like a addictive Drug. Our civilization is dependent on it like a addictive drug to a addict.

Still waiting on nights warmer than the days when/if it happens again. (2020-2022 in Rome) Only a single night warmer than previous days WILL shut crops down. They stop growing and producing. I think to suggest its 'rule' is a bit of a misnomer. It's more like drug pushers controlling the block. They don't manage anything like water availability or maintenance. They just let the drug ( oil ) control the people's lives whilst they get rich.

As far as climate dynamics is concerned, it is considered breached at a certain ocean temp threshold (don´t know how much, really, it must be close and getting there soon, unavoidably) We shouldn´t have ever touched the organic deposits tipping point anyway, it is the main driver for the ROC speeding up, much less the subsea hydrates one. Hope that helps.

In case anyone hasn’t seen…… apparently, according to what I’ve heard several times in science webinars and I’m almost positive it was mentioned in the one Paul does with Regina and Roger, Methane levels/numbers from permafrost and oil leaks, cows, landfills etc…………. Have never even been INCLUDED in ANY of the models that the IPCC has used to “inform” and “update” the public!!!!!! I heard/ saw this awhile back. Verified it. And STILL am in such shock, not recovered from the unbelievable stupidity! This (deliberate) “error”/ omission changes EVERYTHING!!! Give that we ALL know methane is 80x +++ MORE Potent than co2!!!! And save the, “oh but it doesn’t last that long in the atmosphere” shit. Because THAT is ONLY relevant if the methane were IMMEDIATELY stopped. Then, yes, it would be relevant. But of course EVERY MINUTE it continues to jet into the atmosphere unfettered by any “regulation”. So, bye bye beautiful planet.

What exactly constitutes a tipping point for humans? For other animals it's loss of habitat which leads to extinction, which causes a cascading effect up the food chain. Humans are also dieing off at unprecedented rates due to the effects of climate change. Is it a slow death or rapid annihilation?

Over 200 nuclear power plants are located on tidal waterways to help dilute coolant water that is swabbed out. They tend to be built at a relatively low elevation. So if the Thwaites glacier begins slipping into the ocean the multiple meters of SLR that would create will threaten a nuclear calamity' if the fissile materials and waste are not moved to safe locations. The example is not necessarily a natural tipping point but SLR rise would drastically affect places like Florida where the freshwater Everglades would quickly become salt water, killing all the life dependent on fresh water to survive. But then, shortly after that Florida will be completely wiped out anyway: In the whole southern portion of the State it barely rises above 2 meters. So all those whining anti-climate change Repugnant voters will find themselves becoming the climate immigrants. It is also very plausible to suggest that the effects are already killing people in Florida. Champlain towers was very likely undermined by seawater intrusion. The Fl. authorities claim it was bad engineering citing the vid showing water draining into the garage before the collapse. But the damage had to have already begun for the water to be gushing out like that. And footage of the firemen in the carpark after the collapse shows multiple feet of water. Yet no report on the chemistry of that water has been produced. And even after the wreckage was cleared the concrete slab left behind again began to flood. And again they censored any report as to where that water was coming from. Clearly, it was seawater and clearly, they will censor the facts so as to not ruin their cushy cash cow coastline property. The majority of which is now timeshare because mortgages are very hard to get for such a dangerous investment. All in all, it's another disaster waiting to happen.

Given China’s contribution to public railway, electric cars and solar - way above any other nation - I’d say China’s political system would be worth a look to see where we can copy it. Much more state ownership of financial institutions, resources, education, medical care, transport, housing etc. Much less privatisation of same. An attitude of NON- intervention in other countries’ policies. Eg. No climate interventions if they are like human rights interventions which are just excuses for political and military interventions and result in war and chaos not positive change and collective action.

    - We live in the same climate as it was 5 million years ago - I have an explanation regarding the cause of the climate change and global warming, it is the travel of the universe to the deep past since May 10, 2010. Each day starting May 10, 2010 takes us one thousand years to the past of the universe. Today April 13, 2024 the state of our universe is the same as it was 5 million and 87 thousand years ago. On october 13, 2026 the state of our universe will be at the point 6 million years in the past. On june 04, 2051 the state of our universe will be at the point 15 million in the past. On june 28, 2092 the state of our universe will be at the point 30 million years in the past. On april 02, 2147 the state of our universe will be at the point 50 million years in the past. The result is that the universe is heading back to the point where it started and today we live in the same climate as it was 5 million years ago. Mohamed BOUHAMIDA.
