Great video and details, I am about to pull the trigger on my Silverado 06, 269k miles on the tranny, and only one tranny oil change since new. Runs and shifts like new even with the 5,000 Boat on the hitch.

I just installed a new 6.0 along with a bunch of new parts including a new radiator in my 2500hd. I looked for a way to run a aftermarket cooler and couldn’t find any good options. I’ll be looking into this. Thanks.

Great job on the I stall! My question is since you completely bypassed the radiator, what is the Trans temp in the winter time? I'm looking to do this mod to my 04 avalanche 5.3 but am concerned out the winter time temps. Thank you!

So much easier to cut the two hard lines and flare and bend the hard lines they sell at the parts store. The stainless line looks cool though.

I run through the radiator as well as the 40k. The thing that keeps it cool is as much the fluid volume and bypassing the radiator reduces total possible volume.

I just ordered this whole set up for my 04 tahoe. I have a question? Are you able to mount the cooler with the hose fittings up with the gap bracket? And have you heard about this cooler not being self bleed so mounting the cooler like the factory one causing the 40k cooler to only use half? I'm wondering is that is true?

  • @casheighty8

Very true. Countless people mount these upside down and only use 25% of the cooler which is a waste of cooling and money

The cooler in the radiator should not be bypassed in the northern states/Canada, and up there they should be running the aftermarket cooler with the thermostat. Otherwise your transmission would never warm up when it's -10, -20, -50 below.

In areas where there are no winters it may suffice but anywhere where there will be cold driving the radiator should not be bypassed. Transmissions don’t like cold fluids and the 40k cooler has a kit that comes with a thermal bypass installed pre-cooler with the intention of sending cold trans fluid back to the transmission for reheating.
