Glenn Loury’s Journey From Chicago’s South Side to The Ivy League And Beyond

Recorded at Fox News in NYC on October 28, 2021
Professor Glenn Loury is in social sciences and economics at Brown University and a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution. Prior to that, he became a tenured professor of economics at Harvard at the age of 33. How he got from there to here is an inspiring and fascinating story of hard work and accomplishment that is explored in great detail in this interview. Professor Loury also explains the crucial role his parents and his extended family played in his education and his opinions. Now, in his 70’s Loury has become a leading spokesman on the right, often speaking out against woke culture prevalent on many campuses and other institutions. He also explains his radical (for an academic institution, at least) reading list and syllabus for the courses he teaches at Brown and how an undergraduate student/teaching assistant inspired Professor Loury to create a course intended to liberate his students from the “groupthink” that is far too prevalent at most universities.

As an American in my late 70s Glenn makes me proud to be an American. We are not done yet as long as such voices can be heard. American voices may be particularly important right now because of the claim that the nonsense being perpetrated is apparently always justified in the name of oppressed groups. Pfui!

Before I watch this, I'll comment on Mr. Loury from my knowledge of all his other videos. He's courageous and conflicted. He's prideful and humble. You have to watch the growth and changes of the man throughout his life and not just a video like this in his elder ages. He's been torn internally and externally and came out fine because he forces objectivity unto himself even when emotions conspire to overtake him. Whereas Sowell is almost purely objective in his public statements and conclusions, Lowry battles internal emotions constantly. He prefers the company of his own people to feel comfortable and open to be himself even to this day. He rationally likes everyone, but his preference is his people. And there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. He's a great guy and one I'd like to meet someday. Courageous, intelligent, accomplished, objective, and a great all around guy. What happened to the word "liberal"? Did the word change? Did the people who claim the word change? The left is the most illiberal group and I'm sure that saddens the likes of Glenn Loury. I wish every black person, especially young black men, could be students of Loury in life and in the classroom. A great American man.

This 73 yo Australian female former RN, Earth Traveller, BA etc LOVED THIS DEAR PETER INTERVIEW WITH THE VERY ELOQUENT PROFESSOR GLENN LOURY. SUPER SUPER SUPER, APT APT APT, LOVELY LOVELY LOVELY. SPOT ON SPOT ON SPOT SPOT ON. RIGHT, LEFT, MIDDLE, NORTH SOUTH EAST AND WEST. Thank you both for sending me around the World in thought and feeling, with a note or two of tingling transcendence in the fullness of the joy of Consciousness and Spirit that has given us this Wonderful World - but one that is being so blighted by pathetic warring woke propaganda that has no true sense of the base-line and core reality of Life Itself.

I'm 71 and I can remember the warnings from the Right that Johnson's Great Society would result in what we see now. The thing about social engineering is that it can take decades for the unintended consequences to be seen and felt. In the beginning those issuing the warnings seem harsh, unfeeling, racist and unhinged. Not only has poverty not been ended, but the suffering, wasted lives and death is incalculable.

Thank you Glenn. We need more voices like yours to help us save our country. You are speaking hard truths. It’s a bitter pill. I fear that at some point we will fracture and the many who are not into the woke ideologies (the majority) will respond with violence out of frustration and fear due to the chaos & riots. We need to show our children the values of morality, responsibility, and respect of others. Our government is lost in its desire to remain in power, thus unable to provide the leadership and supportive guidance. It is on us, the people of this country, to live the values and elect people support of the founders values. We need to by our actions disempower the main stream media from promoting the divisive narratives and work to a better future.

I was born and raised in Chicago. Lived in a handful of the 77 neighborhoods in Chicago. I moved to the far South Side of Chicago, weeks before Covid. "I'm on fire!" There are many fires growing throughout this City! One of the key answers to this is in a humble, repentive, redemptive Church. Revival, is the only thing that can bring true freedom and liberty reconciliation & healing here. It's happening in pockets throughout the City. There are NO race issues among those who know the truth. We will become that City on a hill burning Brightly, and the woke will bust! Come back to the SS of Chicago help us "seize the opportunity! " The Church can develop and has the vision to be the ACTS she ought be. Yes indeed the ball is in your court clearly .... come back to Chicago .. and lets kick the ball as one body one faith! The violence is about DRUGS thats the knee on all our lives lives ... DRUGS 790 people killed? Why ? Drugs! " Its the BLACK & CHURCH working together as one, one body one faith❤️💒🏡🇺🇸🙌

It takes more than a village to raise a child. It takes loving parents that give their kids tools to succeed. Does this mean kids with out these loving parents are without hope? No, the village can help but can never be a replacement. Some of these tools to help one succeed are to devalope their skills, encourage them to get along with others, instil some higher virtues, gain some self control over their passions. Help them have some successes in their lives. This is just a few. How can the community step in when needed? Give a kid some encouragement, sometimes an oppertunity, there are many more. I have noticed people growing up in America and not doing well as an adult is a problem for most people who grow up in poverty, people in all races, not just black Americans. They usually grow up in dysfunctional families, alcholosism and drug abuse are common denominators.

I love you, Glenn. What a pleasure to hear your wisdom directly from God's word. We must encourage our youth to do better and only with God can it be done. God bless you, Sir. It's hard to see our street youth living so far from the truth and without love. On the other hand, your wonderful students who understand their independent freedom and accept the harder road are succeeding! They are greatly blessed by your example. So...1. Excellence in factual data driven education with a focus on information analysis and reason. 2. Personal accountability to God first. 3. Accountability to family. 4. Meaningful contributor to society. Four keys to the maturity of our youth and the success of America's future. How do we take the keys from the deceivers? How do we get our youth to accept our superior set and unlock the door to freedom?
