Lyrics:
Faraway from that life so young
that's when you used to know
Many dreams since then you've had,
have come and gone that might show
But stress don't you let it
Don't you forget,
trust you'll find your way to love
hope is what your heart is made of
And don't you forget it
don't you forget your way home
For that little girl
Hold on to your world
you're worlds apart
From first where life would start
understanding what it means to have got
nothing but your heavy broken heart
the memory of what used to be
with change comes responsibility

Musiq Soulchild, D’Angelo, Glenn Lewis, Jill Scott, Erica Badu, The Roots, Lauryn Hill, Amel Larrieux. The Neo Soul music era was full of talented artist/writers who sang with such raw emotion and I miss it!! Today’s R&B is definitely not the same. H.E.R, Jazmine Sullivan, Coco Jones, Ari Lennox and Sza is the closest thing we got right now. 😔

Facts
This was the Neo-Soul era of the late 90s-early 2000’s. Glen Lewis, Dwele, and others. So smooth and melodic. And the love songs had a deeper meaning. Loved this type of music and shame that these artists didn’t get more shine. You can listen to this 20 years later and it still sounds fresh and better than anything they play on the radio today. Growing up being able to experience the music of the late 80’s-early 2000’s was a gift from God. They don’t make music like they used to back then.

There were a lot of really good RnB artists and songs during the 90's and early 2k's. I think autotune came along and a lot of less gifted singers over used it. It was hot for a while, but when it faded it exposed the not so talented. By then guys like Glenn, Musiq and others got older and RnB was less popular to the younger generation. If you're as old as me (48) 70's and 80's kids grew up on RnB and made 90's and early 2k's RnB. We heard RnB in the clubs in that era. Kids these days aren't hearing that now in clubs. There used to be a wide range of black music on your favorite radio station then. Now it's mainly all hip hop. A genre I also grew up on but I appreciated both. I got a little long winded but that's only my opinion. I was young, in the air force, in Georgia 93-2000. It was a beautiful time to be in and see Atlanta becoming what it is. I got to this song through Jimmy Cozier She's all I Got mix. Great RnB KZread mix.

As a bassist/keyboardist, this era, especially since this was considered the new Philly sound, Neo Soul, this was my prime era. Philly was Poppin. Had the luxury of playing in backing bands for Glenn Lewis, Jill Scott, Floetry, Bilal, Donnie (not Donnie Hathaway for those who don't know), Kindred The Family Soul, Jimmy Cozier, and a few others. For a young black man who was a musician that loved chord progressions and theory, this era was pinnacle.

21 years later, I have not forgotten about this underrated classic. The 106 & Park days!
The days of “Midnight Love.” ❤
This song became my life anchor when I was on my way to the hospital to give birth to my daughter. I was anxious and afraid, and the lyrics took me to a place of peace. Years later, I met Glenn Lewis at The Apollo, and I got to share my story with him. He was touched, and he autographed a pic for my little girl. This song continues to speak to me to this day.
Why can't R&B sound like this anymore?

Having had the pleasure of meeting Glenn back in my days in the Toronto R&B scene in the 90's, I also had the pleasure of hearing him drop "Don't You Forget It" live, way before ever released on his album. Glenn is a class act in every regard.
2024 DON'T FORGET IT 😂🎉
Thank you Glenn Lewis for these great musical memories in our lives! 🔥🔥
I was 12 when this came out on. Watched it/heard it on BET Jazz...It introduced me to NeoSoul and it changed my life. Through this I found hip-hop (Kweli, Mos Def, Nas, etc)...Miss these days. I'm turning 31 next month and I'm married with a 2 year old. Bumping this with her all the time. Good times, life is strange and moves fast, enjoy it!
Never Forget The first time I heard this back in February of 2002, I was 14 years old and a freshman in high-school just tryna find my way through it all...this song really helped me get through that second part of my freshman year...Neo soul at its finest..miss those days 😌

I remember hearing this song in 2001 when I was 17 years old my 12th grade year. Not long after the 9/11 terror attacks.
When this came out i was about 15 and was living on my own. This song gave me so much strength to keep going . I never missed a day of school( except cut days) I had a after school job and had my first apartment. This use to make me cry because my uncle use to tell me the same thing but he passed aways about 6 years b4 this came out. I havent heard it in years but i needed it now To remember because now I have a 14 year old .
