I used to crack up after hearing him say "Wow" every few minutes during each show, then notice that he was credited as the writer in the closing credits. He was a unique character, obviously loved what he did (who wouldn't), and turned me onto so many wonderful places. I saw him in person one time at the Brewery art colony in L.A. I remember noticing that his upper arms were almost as thick as my thighs. "Wow!"

He wasn’t born here in California He became a Californian He had so much love for the state especially So Cal

I have lived in Glendora for over 40 years. And before that, Azusa for 20 years. My uncle Jack was a supervisor for the Azusa school district and helped Mike build his castle with some equipment and labor. Because of this, I was given a personal tour, years later, with my two young daughters by Mike Rubel himself. I miss him. A lot of people don’t know that the Rubel family donated many acres of land to the Glendora school district for the nearby Goddard Middle School, during the 1960s. God bless the Rubel family.

I sure miss you Houser he was my Thursday night date every week! He was a one in a million! May he rest in peace

As a high schooler, I worked summer of 1976 helping build the castle. Great memories. Miss Michael.

This guys story of a kid and his friends building immense forts next to a dump to building a castle is hilarious and amazing all at the same time. Every town in America needs a kid like this to come along each generation.

Five of the most magical years of my life were living in the castle with Mike... enchanted by both the castle and Mike's stories.

I grew up a few miles away from the castle and always wanted to see inside the “house”, thanks for sharing. Also, I too really miss Huell, he was true California Gold, your truly missed RIP. No disrespect but odd to hear “look at this Cameron” instead of “look at this Louie”.

What a treasure Huell was to the area.

Huell's shows should be required viewing by students across the nation. Its not so much a 'California' thing as a 'human' thing. Wonderful to see how decent people do wonderful works.

Michael and my Father worked together for the Glendora School District as bus drivers and were very good friends. I spent countless hours there, helping to work on various projects. Michael is sorely missed.

I have never been to Pinks. I will definitely be getting the Huell Dog! What an honor. I love this episode!! 🩷

My buddy in Tehachapi HS wrestling invented a move called the Huell Howser. Its a modified hay maker from the starting position. Touching lives to this day. Thats a Legacy.

There's a castle in GLENDORA!? I thought the only thing to do in Glendora was pick up donuts from Donut Man.

You Should have seen the episode when he went to roscoes he was rocking a pair of Js!

I lived and grew up in glendora from 1961 to 1984...I always heard about the castle, never went to it...even though I lived a few miles from it....I need to visit this place and take a tour.

Been there. You can hear the whistle on 210 fwy in San dimas. " You don't have to be too bright too haul rocks...." I love these guys. They're both,all such kooks.

born in Glendora, live in Glendora. finally went inside for the first time. amazing. a must see. inspired me to build a windmill etc. wish I could fit a train car in my backyard.

I've never heard of this place. I must go find it.

Visited today, amazing for those that like collectibles and other junk!

California isn't complete without a castle or two. Huell makes sure he gets at least one on video. Since they wouldn't let him inside the Hearst Castle making him settle for filming plant life and animals there. Here, however, the 'King' himself takes our Hero out on the $2 tour. The 'King' built his own place, along with help from a cast of thousands. Typical American stuff.

I did. He pulled over in his Willy's jeep and gave me a ride up Live Oak as I was walking home from Goddard. That was the first time I went into the Tin Palace. Mike was a genuinely nice person.

I knew a girl that lived in that castle.

I wonder how old that clock was..
